The idea that adversity is good for people needs to be qualified and carefully considered. The type of adversity spoken of in this video when experienced by someone who is emotionally stable and psychologically mature will produce resilience. However the type of Trauma that leads to psychological immaturity (arrested development) is relational and happens very early in life starting at infancy.
This type of trauma is persistent and pervasive. It continues into young adulthood until the individual can break free from their abusers. It is not a singular event but a chronic atmosphere of fear, rejection, humiliation, torture, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or objectification. It is the systemic destruction of a child’s sense of self, safety and reality. When children are abused, neglected or exploited by their parents it is a type of trauma that alters their developmental trajectory. Many people never recover and suffer with life long incurable psychological disorders such as NPD, BPD, HPD, and ASPD. Torturing children doesn’t make them stronger people it makes them crazy.

    • @michaeljensen4650
      @michaeljensen4650 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

This is the danger of listening to people who are not psychiatrists or psychologists and do not have any education or formal training in developmental psychology and trauma. You get bad advice.
Resilience, empathy and emotional self-regulation are learned in early in life. These are traits which are modeled by good enough parents. Good enough parents don’t abuse or exploit their children and facilitate the emergence of the child’s developing self. They do not interfere consciously or unconsciously in the healthy progression of their child’s psychological development. This allows the child to learn from loss, difficulty, disappointment and frustration. They develop empathy and resilience.
If a child is traumatized and emotionally dysregulated it will interfere with their ability to learn from their mistakes and losses. If the adults around them do not model healthy behavior then they have no template or example to draw from.

Historically women weren't this coddled and if you've talked to much older women they'd be disgusted by this too. The issue is that we've had women in arrested development defining what "being feminine" is for far too long, we're not allowed to teach daughters hardship. Just notice the discussions about female athletes being pushed since they were children while this is way more common with male athletes, nobody cares.

Depends. I think women mature faster during puberty and adolescence, yet some remain stuck in that state of mind as there is a large sub group that winds up somewhat pampered. For men early adulthood tends to be rough so they mature quickly due to life experience.

I think the reason they are considered to be more mature is that there's tons of older boys and young men paying them attention and they are elevated socially without having to do anything for it. Also woman are more agreeable, so seem to be fitting in better, whereas boys have a tendency to disagreeableness that female-dominated education doesn't know what to do with

    • @mesv3567

I think woman do actually mature faster in the early stages of life up to 18 y.o, then man start to mature faster while most women get stuck on that phase for almost 10 years.
By the age of 25 man have suffered a lot more and realised that nobody will come to save you if you don't do it yourself while most women still think a prince charming will come and save them.
By the age of 30 the different in maturity of man vs women is at the highest point, at this stage if a woman has not achieved anything in life she will blame everybody else for her problems (man, the state, God, etc) and if she achieved some goals she will accept her reality and be happy with what life is.

Great topic. Wounded women raise wounded children, Males particularly are vunerable with their extra aggressive characteristic. The "need to bond to survive" causes the infant to sculpt himself to what she has left available - often very little - with life long adverse personality effects. Every toxic male has one thing in common - a mother. Healthy mature mothers bring up healthy respectful males. If society wants fewer toxic males, healthy mothers play probably a big part.

A lot of the immature traits Erin describes are related to neuroticism, and some, like manipulating others and the inability to take criticism, start to look like narcissism. However, recent changes in society, particularly the celebration of individuality above other qualities, and the rise of a popular psychology that medicalises everything, reinforce immature behaviours in our race to embrace diversity. Moreover, the rise of social media, with its relentless focus on appearances above thoughtfulness and other desirable traits, makes it attractive for some women to want to live in perpetual maidenhood - and of course for some men to want to live in perpetual boyhood, chasing the perpetual maidens.

There's more one can say about this topic. These days, most women are rigid, cold, critical and dismissive, and confuse these qualities with being mature. There are many ways women avoid accountability and intimacy; immaturity and being an ice queen are two of them. There are many, many more.

Not every single thing is some big significant indicator of somebodies deep psyche it’s just an easy way to view the world that appeals to people lazy brains. Women of most ages and backgrounds these days are extremely immature. I remember back in the late 2000s to early 2010s one of the phrases you would always hear in real life and in media were "you can't hit a girl!" Or "She can't do anything wrong because she's a girl" along with Women displaying violence towards Men in media where it would be portrayed as a form of comedy. The lack of accountability in this sense is what has partially lead to what we are seeing today. Overly masculine and competitive modern Women that again refuse to take accountability because most grew up in a society that was fueled by encouragement from media to "let her get away with it because she's a Woman" and cheer on when a Woman does something violent that threatens the safety of a Man and/or another Woman. In conclusion, media is one of the things responsible for modern day influences, societal psychological damage, and stereotypes that have created division and recklessness. Don't even get me started with the reduction of food quality, which I believe has an impact on hormones and one's mental state.

I felt so inadequate to find love and build a family so “early.” Again, I take this word in quotation marks because this would not be considered early in the generation of my grandmother (who was also highly educated, worked as a doctor, yet created a family with a child by 25). Most of my female friends were going from dates to dates, while I was breastfeeding my first child… it felt so lonely. As if I was somehow a divination.

I work at a local mickeyd’s as a 2nd “fun-time” income job(pays for the fun things) I’m a service worker and the vibe aggressiveness between the women is off-putting. I’ll be bagging up an order and observe their faces and they have the MEANNNESST faces and are cackling about each other when another messes up. Not that I think it’s sad but tragic!

I would like to hear your thoughts about a certain sort of interpretation of "Sleeping Beauty" that harmonises with what you have discussed here.
The princess's life can, much like an insect's be divided into three stages: larva (childhood, from the baptism to the spinning wheel incident), pupa (maidenhood, spinning wheel incident to meeting the prince), imago/adult, mother archetype, starting from her awakening)
Her parents arrange a baptism celebration and invite the things they desire for their daughter. All nice things, wealth, prosperity, health, happiness; but the party has an uninvited guest, repressenting strife. The evil fairy does not really curse the child, she actually warns the king and queen: "you did not invite strife into your child's life, and that is understandable, but here I am regardless, you cannot keep her safe from strife, eventually it will show up no matter what you do. If you shelter your daughter too much she will end up so mentally weak that a insignificant event, the sort of injury that women sustain on a daily basis without complaint (getting her finger pricked on the needle of a spinning wheel, a device used by women of all walks of life) will completely wipe her out.
The king and queen should have laughed it off: the princess will skin her knees when she trips while running around the palace courtyard at age 5, she will go playing in the woods and break her arm falling from a tree by age 10, no little pinprick will phase her by age 16.
    But they don't.
The larval childhood stage for the princess is characterised by being helicopter parented.
Of course strife eventually finds her... we can mention that getting "pricked" by a "needle" may well be a sort of sexual euphemism... either way, something that happens to all maidens comes as such a shock to her that her transition into the pupal maiden life stage is completely traumatic.
She becomes a recluse, hiding away in her room, for all intents and purposes socially dead. She isolates herself behind a thorny briar and hides away from the world/reality, let us assume that she is dreaming of her lost childhood, she wishes to revert to being a larva as she is changing into an adult, something she is seemingly blind to
    .
The fairy, the sort of wild threat that is in truth a trickster, a inconvenience, the sort of thing a well behaved christian peasant can deal with turns into a dragon (Disney version), the sort of monster only divinely ordained royalty can subjugate, a dragon sized problem has been made of a fairy sized one.
Of course a patient man comes along, he does not give up on her and works his way through the briar and works hard to subjugate the dragon, and steadilly draws her out of her isolation, out of her psychic death. She emerges into a matured state that can proceed into the adult/motherhood stage of life (imago/adult in our insect metamorphosis analogy).
Now perhaps there are other paths whereby the princess can grow up than the intervention of a man, but that's not what we find in the story (unless the prince repressents some masculine aspect within the princess' own psyche, rather than someone outside of the princess).
    Another matter:
It seems to me that the wounded maiden types often engage in make believe play of advancing to motherhood... they become dog-moms and cat-moms.

@@ndhtyu using the word "value" to describe a human life isn't right. Humans are not pieces of flesh being sold at a market so there's no "value" here. A word like that is used only when selling or buying merchandise from a market. It is degrading to use that word to describe a fellow human being with a mind and soul just like yours.

    1. Maiden (Spring)
    2. Mother (Summer)
    3. Matriarch (Fall) - She's raised her family and starts to put her focus more on her community, putting into practice her advanced experience and knowledge
    4. Crone or Wise Woman (Winter) - the elder who offers wisdom to her family and community. She takes less of a leadership role than you might see in the Matriarch

Maturity comes from responsibility and responsibility grants control and since many women don't want to take on responsibility and are overwhelmed by control they justify delegating that responsibility to others, primarily men. After a while they grow bitter and resentful towards those who dare and gain prestige and gravitas through risk and toil. Women don't do risk so they don't gain and acquire like men causing women to stay more mentally infantile and envious due to their own choices and in the long run it makes them more bitter and childish causing them to be constantly demanding and complaining like children as they later deem everything to be unfair. And when children whine later on they are often undeservingly so given what they want by the capable in order to make them stop signaling distress and give men peace of mind.

I keep saying that there's a little girl inside of every woman. The little girl becomes a woman, but she's still there.
My mother was in her 70's and said she still felt like a little girl inside. A mother is nurturing and protecting. She loves and disciplines a child. She might be talking to you, scream at one of her children, then go back to talking to you as though nothing happened.

This is why i'm only attracted to mature older women, despite what the manosphere says, I think maturity is the greatest gift a woman can give a man after her purity. Being in a relationship with a mature older woman is one of the single most fulfilling things i have experienced. It feels so right in every way, it's like what a relationship or marriage ought to be like.

Thank you for presenting this perspective. In case you are interested, the Buddha also had a perspective on the kind of behaviour you refer to as immature, whether pursued by women or men. In his early teachings on the Middle Way, he described it as a path that inevitably leads to suffering, even though it appears to be pleasure-seeking. I suspect that young hedonists are more likely to listen to your way of putting it though...! Good luck with your work.
