At 5:45 I have to say that managers will complain more about the number of bread sticks servers are giving to their guests. They would NEVER complain about improperly holding the trays. I got injured and I wish I filed that as a workers comp injury. Managers kissed my ass when I returned after taking a 1 month leave of absence. They over hire people, knowing that only 4 out of 12 trainees will stay.

Really focus on studying the menu. That will take you a long way if you know the ingredients & everything that comes w it. Ask for help when you need it & just do your best. You’ll be fine. I had no serving experience as well. Goodluck & congrats on the job 🙏🏻✨

i’m not too sure! In CA, you only need to be 18 to serve alcohol.. i think. they might offer you a different position like to-go if you’re not qualified for the other positions

No, you keep your tips! Depending on your trainer, you don’t keep your tips DURING TRAINING (only one week long w like 2 times being out on the floor) 😊 after that, you keep them & you tip out 2.5% to the bussers/bartenders

Hi girly, I would assume it’s in the morning but I’m not sure. Orientation takes a while tbh. Mine was in the afternoon around 4-5pm but I didn’t leave until around 9. My first week of training/orientation, I went in at 8am. I would call & ask to be sure since it could be either one. Better safe than sorry!
Good luck!! & it really depends on how fast your tables turn, how long you’re there, & how busy the restaurant is. But you get 2-3 table at a time when you’re new

@@jeanne9571 take out the trash when it’s needed, Seat guest at tables or booths, pick up phone calls from guest, roll silverware and use the computer to put guest on the wait list and seating guest by table number on the computer. That’s just what a hosting job does. It might be different in other olive gardens, but that is what I do. The important thing is to remember the table numbers by head. My Olive Garden is kind of big, so it was very hard remembering the table numbers at first, but it took a week to remember and a month to learn the computer. They will give you the whole floor in paper to memorize the table numbers. It’s a really good starting job if you’re in school. They do well to accommodate your schedule.

We have to tip out 2.5% of our sales to the bussers & bartenders. I didn’t receive any tips that night & the computers just assume if they didn’t tip through credit, they tipped cash. So regardless if I did or didn’t, I still have to tip out 2.5% of my sales
Caden didn’t get hired 😭 I went in for an interview and they acted like they wanted me but I got a email saying they don’t need me yet. RIP, if they ask you if you can hold a tray or have any experience then think of a way of saying you do. Like say you used to help out at a place a family member worked at or anything. Thinking that’s why I didn’t get hired. Only job experience I have is a year at a warehouse.

In response to 1. You can’t keep tips when your training bc it’s going under the trainers checks. 2. I owed money bc you automatically owe money on a check based off of the sales tax, so since I didn’t get tipped, I owed money
When you are training you have to clock in under your trainer and or manager because you do not have the knowledge yet to understand the work on your own
Actually I used to be certified trainer at OG and the guest order still can be ringed under trainee’s check. If you close your check with TOGO cashier at the end of your shift (I’m assuming you did because you mentioned about owe money) meaning it will be under your check, thus you are paying taxes with your tip received. So you are entitled to keep your tip because taxes are changed to pay check regardless of if you are training or not, at least that’s how we did at the store I worked. I’m pretty sure the trainer’s book indicated that information but not 100% sure. I remember when I was hired (which was long time ago) I ring up the item under my tab, but when time for guest to pay the bill the trainer move the check under his tab so he get the tip. Honesty, as a certified trainer, I didn’t think that was appropriate. You earned the tip, that’s your tip, regardless whether you are training or not. And if you have to pay taxes, trainer cannot keep the tip. That’s stealing! I feel like that’s illegal.
Also you owe money does not mean you literally owe money. You had more cash transaction than credit card transaction. As a server at OG, you are also does cash handling. You keep all the credit card signed check and cash you received from cash trans action. At the end of the shift you have to go to TOGO cash register to calculate the sale you made. If you have more cash transaction, you just basically returning some of the company’s money minus you cash tip and credit card tip. What ever is left is your money. If you have more credit card transaction, you get your credit card tip via cash from TOGO cashier. I hope it make sense.

@@tthede6115 it was good. I got the job instantly. It was super easy questions and only took 5 mins for me. I’m still working there and love my hosting job.

@@jeanne9571 take out the trash when it’s needed, Seat guest at tables or booths, pick up phone calls from guest, roll silverware and use the computer to put guest on the wait list and seating guest by table number on the computer. That’s just what a hosting job does. It might be different in other olive gardens, but that is what I do. The important thing is to remember the table numbers by head. My Olive Garden is kind of big, so it was very hard remembering the table numbers at first, but it took a week to remember and a month to learn the computer. They will give you the whole floor in paper to memorize the table numbers. It’s a really good starting job if you’re in school. They do well to accommodate your schedule.

I’m very confused about this tip thing. How did you end up owing one dollar? Aren’t tips like something that you keep for yourself. I understand that you had to give your tips to your trainee but I still don’t understand how you ended up negative
We have to tip out 2.5% of our sales to the bussers & bartenders. I didn’t receive any tips that night & the computers just assume if they didn’t tip through credit, they tipped cash. So regardless if I did or didn’t, I still have to tip out 2.5% of my sales

Caden didn’t get hired 😭 I went in for an interview and they acted like they wanted me but I got a email saying they don’t need me yet. RIP, if they ask you if you can hold a tray or have any experience then think of a way of saying you do. Like say you used to help out at a place a family member worked at or anything. Thinking that’s why I didn’t get hired. Only job experience I have is a year at a warehouse.

Caden yea and that’s just why I think. Could of been they found someone that’s closer to the store or has experience with the job. But yea just in case that was it I’d say you’ve carried trays 😂

@@hannahcheng2593 lol I had mine yesterday tmrw I got an orientation cuz I’m 16 but they asked me like how will I build trust with the other employees, what does hard work mean to me, in what instances did I help someone and how did I come about on helping them, was their a time that you exceeded your and someone else’s expectations, and they ask you to tell them about yourself and that’s really all they asked me

In response to 1. You can’t keep tips when your training bc it’s going under the trainers checks. 2. I owed money bc you automatically owe money on a check based off of the sales tax, so since I didn’t get tipped, I owed money
When you are training you have to clock in under your trainer and or manager because you do not have the knowledge yet to understand the work on your own
Actually I used to be certified trainer at OG and the guest order still can be ringed under trainee’s check. If you close your check with TOGO cashier at the end of your shift (I’m assuming you did because you mentioned about owe money) meaning it will be under your check, thus you are paying taxes with your tip received. So you are entitled to keep your tip because taxes are changed to pay check regardless of if you are training or not, at least that’s how we did at the store I worked. I’m pretty sure the trainer’s book indicated that information but not 100% sure. I remember when I was hired (which was long time ago) I ring up the item under my tab, but when time for guest to pay the bill the trainer move the check under his tab so he get the tip. Honesty, as a certified trainer, I didn’t think that was appropriate. You earned the tip, that’s your tip, regardless whether you are training or not. And if you have to pay taxes, trainer cannot keep the tip. That’s stealing! I feel like that’s illegal.
Also you owe money does not mean you literally owe money. You had more cash transaction than credit card transaction. As a server at OG, you are also does cash handling. You keep all the credit card signed check and cash you received from cash trans action. At the end of the shift you have to go to TOGO cash register to calculate the sale you made. If you have more cash transaction, you just basically returning some of the company’s money minus you cash tip and credit card tip. What ever is left is your money. If you have more credit card transaction, you get your credit card tip via cash from TOGO cashier. I hope it make sense.
In my case, they all paid using their card so I didn’t have any cash transactions. But thanks for the input!
