It is a dirty and psychological warfare tactic used by its creators to use against their enemies... something similar to the concept of "The Ghosts of Vietnam." Yeah, sometimes, human beings are scarier than video game monsters themselves (Not just Lethal Company)...

The thing I love most about this game is how the running theme of adversaries is that there is no running theme. All the enemy varieties seem so ingenious and original. The sheer randomness gives so much freedom to create anything imaginable and it’d be suitable. Zeeker’s a crafty little bugger I love it

interesting fact guys, one of the lines (this one 0:45 ) is on russian language, and it is an alarm which plays on a plane when it is falling to crush. it repeatedly says "мы падаем" voiced by a woman, it means "we are falling". and as a way of threatening a player, it is actually really scary.
The scary thing about these is that we aren't seeing them in their prime, its after centuries of deterioration from being forsaken. These things are the first weapons of extra-orbital war or whatever the game calls it. Their clunky movement probably developed overtime as they deteriorated, imagine it at its prime, this giant several ton metal monster running towards you at full speed. The torch probably made a bigger hotter flame too, maybe the rockets launched father too. The speaker probably sounded far louder and was far more realistic, the lights probably were blinding too. Imagine that, blinding lights rise over the hills, a cacophony of the deafingly loud cries of babies following it, then rockets go shooting from the lights, wreaking havoc on wherever you are, if you surive that you see the old birds in their full glory, running all around scorching everything around them, blinding those they miss with their spotlight. These things might have been designed to destroy cities, but they destroy the mind too.
They absolutely designed this very well to just break down all your critical thinking when is sees you with how many things start happening, great monster.
The fact that these things are unkillable makes Old Birds so much more terrifying in hindsight on top of what lore has already characterized them as: Weapons of war.

What this thing did to the soldiers after the war was not only horrifying but also tragic... a lot of people say the baby crying sounds are for psychological warfare but i always thought it was to attract animals like the eyeless dog because it makes the sound of a very easily targetable prey
