Mara's Goal: Transform Crow Into "Uldren Sov, the Lightbearer" (Destiny 2: Season Of The Lost)

- So you wish to hear the rest of my brother's story?
Fine. I will oblige you.
When the Storm came, Rega and Ager rode the winds to meet it,
a fleet of talons at their back.
A great battle ensued.
The Storm took, as was its nature.
Many feel, Agre among them.
Rega could only watch as he tumbled down, down, down...
until her heart beat alone.
She dove into the Storm, giving herself to destroy it.
Rega's spirit ascended higher into the sky...
where she hoped to reunite with her brother.
Instead, she met the thing that sent the Storm.
Unreachable by reasoning or bargaining...
A voice in the darkness.
Rega gathered her feathers into an aegis of wings...
But over the years feathers broke away.
Futility wore thin her resolve.
Then, one day, her heart began to beat as it once had...
doubled, distant...
but different.
A beautiful echo.
Hope called her home.
And though she prayed to find Ager there...
...he never returned.
I still feel Uldren's heartbeat. Somewhere out there.
When your Crow first stood in my halls, I saw an ember of my Uldren's burning in his breast.
Curiosity... and a sibling fondness told me I could stoke that ember. I hope it is not a lie.
I hope he is more than the last ebb of hot ash from a long dead flame.
Many of his faults were not of his own making. Uldren's decisions were his, of course, but driven by whips in the hands of others.
Myself included.
I will have to offer him more than an old story of an empty promise if I wish to see that ember burn again.
This is the path I led Uldren down. If certain actos had kept to their roles, I would have wielded Uldren Sov, Lightbearer.
But even Mara Sov cannot control everyone.
I celebrate his resurrection in this Light. But I detest seeing my brother rewritten - his greater self sloughed away and swept into the cellar.
There is still good to draw from who he was. Don't squander it.
He needs a star to guide him. Uldren or Crow, they are the same in that regard.
Ager's scepter is yours then. Both its burden and the freedom it can provide. Be careful with it, Guardian. He is prone to devotion.
Mara, touch crow and I'm gonna get myself a new exotic weapon.
Rega's crown to go with Ager's scepter?
Amen. I would use anything, Ace or a whole sweet business mag on her to the point where she should be called the Creator of awoken cheese. I wouldn't care what happens afterwards. Let the corsairs kill me and my Ghost. I feel like it would be SO worth it.

Word for word, almost said the exact same thing
What is it and royals into a weapon right?
boy she really does not realise how toxic she was to him and that her neglect of him was the largest factor in his decisions.
It says a lot that Riven pretended to be her to manipulate Uldren into committing genocide against his own people.
Mara went down the path of overprotectiveness. She has an ego to swallow the system, combined with great love for her brother. She really thought what she did was best for him. She was also pragmatic to a fault, she couldn't really express love in a meaningful way to Uldren which made him see her as cold and disapproving. But in reality she just wanted to keep her little brother safe in a dangerous solar system. I imagine losing him (then getting him back just to lose him again) did no favors for her pragmatic psyche lol.
So she's the reason Cayde is dead?
**Cocks gun**
@@Kjf365 a true way to look at this. Lol most ppl are just acting emotional about crow but your analysis seems to be what I've also gathered
@@kirittv It is, however, a clear sign that Mara is being manipulated too: she arrogantly asserts that she "can't be tricked" by Savathun, yet every time she gives a vague hint at her "plan" (e.g. feigning that she isn't angry at Savathun for manipulating Crow) we're shown how her overconfidence leading to her thinking her plans are foolproof is the most likely outcome Savathun is betting on, not her anger leading her to muck it all up.
Notice she didn't say she would have had her brother back, she said "I would wield Uldren Sov, lightbearer." He's just a tool to her, an accessory
Another pawn in her schemes
It's just as awful as well that instead of being happy that her brother is, in a sense, alive again, her first inhibitions are to drag him back under her control again. No rejoice, no humanity; she's far gone from it. She doesn't acknowledge the pain she's caused to Uldren, nor cares to take any responsibility for what Uldren's done in her name.
I think she's passed being happy he's alive again. She's lost him twice at this point. Once to straight up death, and again to memory loss. She says time and time again how she hopes there's some flicker of uldren within him. She admitted in the bird story that she rushed home from the war she was fighting upon finding out he was alive again. Woman was literally fighting the Pyramid fleet to defend the system and she rushed home to see her brother. What does that tell you about how she felt about him? Imagine how you'd feel upon finding Crow instead. I would lose the ability to feel too.
dont be surprise if she joins lakshmi 2 in the next life.
"Sometimes I wish I could be more than just an accessory for these women, but unfortunately, as a gamer, I don't get respect " - crow
Ever notice how one sided this story of hers is? It is HER point of view. We don’t get to hear Crow’s side. Everyone needs to stop trying to make Crow’s choices for him. Just let him be his own man.
I agree, although I still refuse to let him speak to savathun alone
Can't hes dead. There is no other point of view. While everyone is blaming Mara for shielding him from the truth, so is the Vanguard, maybe even out of selfish desire. Theres a cost to Crow making his own decision, hes going to end up being a pawn of savathun.
We currently have 2 choices 1) Kill savathun before they get a chance to talk, but she currently has her own uses 2) Tell him ourselves, and the first one to open their mouths will be the one to hold the blame. Theres no winning for him. Hes chasing a past we all keep saying wasn't his fault, but would he actually understand that. Even if he should let go, he still has family. This will be utter betrayal no matter who does it.
he cannot be his own man, he doesn't *want* to be, he is literally trying tk rely on someone, anyone, even if it's Savathun
I mean, that's the only side we have. Uldren is dead so we can't get his side

Mara: ...
Can I just say that the symbolization of "what sent the storms" being a giant mass of bird heads really teased the witness before witch queen
Mara, touch Crow and I'm gonna make your Throne World look like the Shattered Realm
Mara's ego and ignorance seems to have no bounds. I mean really what happened to Crow when he was Uldren was mostly her fault yet she tries to blame everyone else for her failures. However, when Mara eventually meets her demise after another one of her plans falls apart, I hope they give us armor similar to how her outfit she wore before this season looked cause that outfit would look good on my Hunter
PS I know what happened wasn't entirely Mara's fault but for the most part is was
Her stupidity resulted in the death of thousands of Awoken, the taking of several techeuns and an ahamkara, the creation of the scorn, the corruption of Uldren, and the curse on the Dreaming City. She is so on the top of my hit list.
And yet she is protecting Savathun. I could kill Savathun very easily, she's weaker than Oryx and Xol, couple shots from the right gun and she'd be dead like Crota, then a quick journey to her throne world while she still serves the worm for a true death.

I'm glad the community can see through her veil of manipulation and aren't just mindless simps that go "hurr durr fOr tHe QuEeN"
the funny thing is I'm not all that impressed with the vanguard, and I wanted to see Mara's leadership style. If my guardian has to follow somebody, at this point in the story I'd want it to be Eris. She at least doesn't have a giant ego even though she admits to using us as a weapon on occasion.
@@AugustusBohn0 she knows we are the paracausal spear head. Used to puncture the black guardian, fell crota, fell his father oryx. She knows that given direction and a nice incentive, typically in a gun made of our enemy. We will stop at nothing other than a writers pen to get it done.
@@AugustusBohn0 I agree, not a huge fan of the Vanguard and the Tower as well. I've never played that much of D1 but since playing D2, all my guardians have been awoken and my headcannon has been that they're reef awoken (after all, if Uldren Sov can be resurrected, I'm sure plenty of other reef awokens can).
Sorry mara, he's our bro now!
The mute marauders
She doesn't even understand the pain he went through regaining his memories. The man had to spend time away from everyone because he couldn't even trust himself for god's sake. Yet all she's concerned about is "wielding Uldren the lightbearer". She refuses to see who he is, that he's not her brother anymore and is his own person free of her manipulation. She just sees him as a tool.
Poor Crow, he’s slowly being crushed by a vice, where the vices are the two Queens of manipulations.
But in the end I think he will stand up for himself and, learned about his past, he will choose to not become Mara’s light bearing puppet and will get promoted as hunter vanguard
With how little or how much we know of Mara, we can’t trust her as much as Savathun. This story may be a one sided, unreliable pov.
She has aided us, but like Savathun, she is used to manipulating people to get what she wants, even if unlike Savathun, she wants to help her people and the universe, while Savathun is only looking out for herself, and even if she pitied Crow, she still wanted to break his spirit when telling him the truth about what he did when he was Uldren. Savathun also was responsible for her own downfall, as Ikora said, while Mara has begun to slowly change since the events of Season of the Lost when she realized Savathun used her so well as well as how shaken up she was when coming face to face with the Witness.
She just wants to use him for his lightbearer powers...lets light that witch a pyre.
im this close 👌 mara. i am this close. ya better drop that plan soon.
I'm already planning out the kind of exotic i can get from Mara's sheer ego.
Are we sure it's not Savathûn talking?
With how similarly the two tend to act, I would not be surprised if this this eventually happens right under our nose. However, in this case it's all Mara Sov we're seeing here.
"If certain actors kept to their roles"

Oh that bit during the cutscene about the voice in the darkness gave me chills. The music and art shifted to become so sinister and you can hear that unsettling ringing noise we usually hear whenever we are near a pyramid or nightmare.
I do feel like a lot of people are looking over some key details. She is definitely power-hungry but she is not devoid of emotion. She was fighting the source of the darkness, this horrible voice we keep being teased at, by herself and left that fight when she could feel her brother alive again. She loves uldren deeply, she just isn’t the best at showing it. She has also admitted several times this season already that she is partly to blame for what he has went through.

Mara talks like an adult sibling who watched Uldren grow up from a baby -- still thinks if she controls the area around him, he'll be on the "right path".
She just wants her pawn back
Notice how she said "wielded" not something else
Yea, because Mara is used to wielding people because only that way she can build a future for everyone, a lonely leader who knows more than anyone else and tells nobody anything except for the immediate future and plan of action. That is how she believes lives will be saved in the end, but there are people who acted out of line which caused the whole dreaming city fiasco.
She thinks of her brother as nothing but a tool or weapon to use.
I see evidence that she cares. But she's too pragmatic and egotistical make any heartfelt decisions or remarks. The ending of the bird story was the part she made up. She admits that she left the battle she was fighting because she felt Uldren come back to life and went to the dreaming city to find him but never did. And she shows concern for our care in him. Asking things like "would you care for him if he were more like Uldren?" Which sounds like a concerned sister to me. She kept the Scepter from him because she was worried about the brash decisions he would make that would ultimately kill him in the end. And instead chose to let him chase after some skews to take up time until she thought he was ready. An over protective older sister with an ego so she truly believes she knows what's best for him. That's what she is.
@@Kjf365 correct. Nothing malicious here.
The fact that the Destiny community unironically trusts Savathun over Mara shouldn't come as a surprise, given that these are the same people who fanboy-ed over Calus just because he fed their ego, but that doesn't make it any less disappointing.
For those saying that Mara can't be trusted with Uldren, you're right. She'd agree with you, hence why she told us to our face that she's trusting us to take care of him, and warning us of his own unhealthy habits so that history doesn't repeat itself. Mara actually has a very high opinion of the Guardian and their talents, something that she obliquely hints at every five seconds or so. She never says it outright, though, thanks to her untruth-problem* so it flies over the fandom's head every time.
Mara has her problems, but this community's obsession with killing everything that mildly upsets them is something else.
*To explain, Mara is incapable of telling the truth. I don't mean that in the sense that she is a willing liar, I mean that in the sense that she is *pathologically incapable* of being honest with herself to others without invoking at least some level of obfuscation. This is an active problem for her, and has been for centuries (there's a whole entry in the Marasenna dedicated to her trying and failing to open herself to Sjur, because opening herself up is antithetical to Mara's nature). This psychological quirk of her's then became infinitely worse after she staked her claim to godhood on it, becoming a "Queen of secrets" not unlike Savathun.
The only work around to this inability of hers to tell the truth is by way of vague hinting and indirect clues she leaves in her speech. Or not-so-vague, as she has increasingly become over the last few weeks. Not that that's stopped the community from missing the obvious for the umpteenth time.
Wait, asterisks bold your text in YT-comments? Holy karp how have I never noticed that before?

If she hurts Crow, I'm gonna turn her into that beautiful crown she mentioned.
Call it The Queen's Cold Heart Exotic helm. It's perk is to freeze those who get close enough to touch you..
She's every bit as arrogant Uldren was, if not more so. She doesn't give a damn about Crow's fate, she just wants to control her brother in another form and with another power. You won't hold us accountable for anything. Crow is a new man and he deserves to be treated as such. Not as a shadow of a former life. Wherever he is, I'm leaving him be until he's ready to come back. The only one to be held accountable for Crow is Crow.
Wow, he really is just a tool to her. What happened to all those times where she was saying "Oh i miss my dear brother..."
again, people are misunderstanding her wording here.
she is not saying she would have wielded Uldren as a light bearer, she is addressing _us_ as lightbearer in a condescending tone.
she is expressing anger at us for killing him and takeing Uldren from her, not revealing some grand plan she had cooked up.
Finally, someone who can understand English lol. Though one thing I think was happening was she was saying she could have made him Uldren again instead of the Crow and wielded him. That's what the rest of that statement meant. But Spider had to go and get his grubby mitts on him and then essentially handed him over to us, killing that possibility.
At least she’s beginning to admit to her own faults.
Given his rebirth, honestly, i think crow even after he eventually finds his past, is gonna not side with mara, savathun, or even the vanguard. He'll likely side with us, the Guardian. Follow our path, the path that despite all odds has always come out on top. Crow is very intelligent, i have no doubt that he'll pick the cards that always win. I mean, if its commonly accepted that hes going to be the hunter vanguard one day. Well lets just say cayde-6 was well aware of who the best guardian for any cataclysmic event aside from himself was. Crow will realize that as well. Also i thought our ghost had a long time finding us, it makes me wonder what our story was, how we wound up on the bridge just outside the cosmodrome... Were we a human/awoken/exo fighting to defend the walls from the fallen, perhaps fighting alongside guardians? Were we merely an innocent bystander, slaughtered in a gruesome conflict. In an odd way, the awoken and guardians are two sides of the same coin, representative of light and dark, one forgets its past, in the blinding light of the unknowable future, the other is consumed by the past, forever seeking to change the future, and claiming to know its course through past action.
I’m pretty sure that lightbearer line was just her talking to the guardian
Her ego consumed her and still sees Uldren as a tool, a tool with sentimental value but a tool all the same.
Crow now has three paths he could go down. The path of the witch queen, the path of the vanguard or the path of the Sovs.
One thing is for sure, Petra either somehow doesnt realize her queens self serving ambitions makes her see anyone and everyone as mere pieces on a chess board, a game for her alone to win.... or she is blinded by loyalty and not a "sharp" a blade as she seemed.
ah yes, the queen's self serving ambitions to stop the darkness and save humanity. truly, her selfishness knows no bounds. she is incredibly manipulative and puts the bigger picture over eveything else, but self serving is one thing she is very much not.

Even if ill willed Savathun was the only one who treated Crow, Crow.
She was the reason why uldren killed cayde

Mara is going to push crow away with how she thinks of him right into savathuun's clutches. Mind you savathuun even says she feels for crow and that type of language proves savathuun understands how vulnerable and exploitable he is
Perhaps this is what Savathûn is doing to enlist Mara’s aid: playing to her desire of having her brother back by restoring Crow’s memories.

It brought a question to me : does the traveler chose anyone as their guardian, or did Mara know something more that would lead uldren to become a guardian after death?

Every single time someone talks about crow they speak as if he has no will of his own. It genuinely disgusts me. Freedom is a core value of mine that I can truthfully say is deeply etched into my soul that when someone speaks of it as if it is a curse it angers me. None of us chose to be guardians. Our ghosts may have chose us but we are still people. Mara don’t take from me my crow. He has only just learned to fly.

The only person she has to blame for uldren sov's death is herself and she should have to live with that knowledge. I'd bet Crow would agree if he was allowed to know the man he became under her influence.
She really threw lil bro to us then huh
Does no one know how English works? She's clearly referring to us when she says lightbearer. She's not saying "ulden the lightbearer." That's how neutral characters refer to us rather than "Guardian." You can hear the comma, and she finishes the sentence in a meant to call you out. So can we please stop with the "She expected him to be a lightbearer" thing? She didn't. I'm sorry if I sound aggressive, I'm just irritated that so many people would misinterpret one sentence that was spoken so eloquently by the actress.
Using a comma in a sentence after a name can very well be a way of giving a title to said name..? What are you on about?
@@aytekineric8306 Saying "Crow, lightbearer" as a title has a totally different pronunciation to "Crow, lightbearer" calling someone out by name. I didn't want to explain phonics but here we go I guess. If she were saying it as a title, she would keep emphasis on both Crow and lightbearer. Both words would be strongly pronounced. Think about how the other characters talk to us when they call us Guardian like a name. Meanwhile what she did was say both words as if they were both ending a sentence. Crow was pronounced as the end of the sentence and title, and lightbearer was said as if it was the start and end of it's own sentence. It could have been written as "I could have wielded Crow. Lightbearer." And keep the same pronunciation and meaning. She was calling us out as lightbearer in a distasteful manner like Spider would but not accusatory necessarily.
Is the voice actor for crow related to the boss of bungie or what ?
If anything happens to our buddy Crow, I'm going to make sure she'll have her last words.
Also I'm starting to side with Saavathun on this case. Atleast she knows we know shes lying. Mara on the other hand, The only thing shes good at is Lying to herself
Lay a finger on Crow and I will turn you into the worst exotic in existence, dismantle you and discard your gunsmith parts
Well *chaos* hes gonna *reach* her FUCKING ALRIGHT
I swear to god if she brings back Uldren and kills off crow (mentally) I'm gonna be beyond pissed. Crow is probably one of my favorite characters to, come along with saint, after Cayde's death
*Loads Ace Of Spades with malicious intent* Also, I hate how she tells us to not squander/mess up when it comes to Crow, as if SHE didn't mess up herself. The Lion, The Witch, and THE AUDACITY OF THIS BITCH.
I use to like her but nahh she selfish, self opinionated and doesn't realize her brother is dead. Crow is not uldren he is his own man.
Savathun knows this conflict that Mara has with the body of Uldren walking and the spirit of Crow inhabiting it. Savathun will unlock his memories as Uldren Sov and Mara will try to use him again.
I havent play D2 ina while, Uldren becomes Crow but wait why Mara is part of us?
Yeah, no, your not the boss off me Mara.
I understand Mara wants her brother back but she'll have to find that in Crow and not through bringing back Uldren Sov
besides what she has done I mean: damn baby 😍
Mara touch crow and i'm going on a spree again I will shoot an Uldren sov but I will not shoot a crow
Maybe caiatl got some good idea after all...
I know this has nothing to do with this but where is caital
dude i swear the team behind the games cutscenes deserve a raise.
Why? That was just a cheap cell shading flip book
Dont care... I still like Mara Sov :)
Out of all the characters in this game that make messes for the protagonist Guardian to clean up, I think Mara is one of the worst right now. She has this grand plan but what’s the payoff and who’s going to benefit from it(aside from the cool weapons)?
I never liked Mara. So ignorant and devious, always trying to take our accomplishments as her own. If she wants to bring back uldren I wouldn't mind entering a never-ending cycle of shooting him, waiting for him to resurrect and shooting him once again.
