    I want to thank you for this. I did a trial of this eq and it really works well especially for me. I'm not a great mixer and I have a hard time determining how best to deal with a problem situation and this eq has really improved what I've used it on so far. I was hoping to get a discount on it and thanks to you I was able to do so. A lot of my music sometimes has two distinct parts and one of the problems I've had is that the two different parts require different treatment so having something like this eq is really helpful in that regard as it adjusts in real time to everything.

  • @compoundaudio

    I've been using this for a while now.
    It's very good for vocals or melodies that have a lot of Resonance. This defo helps take control of certain aspects that a simple static eq or even dynamic eq can't do.
    It's also nice across buss/groups but only subtle.

    Great plugin. I've been using it for a while. No matter the source, I get great results by trying to get the bias meter, on the far left, to not move at all or just barely peak above & dip below the zero point. I can't explain why or even confirm if this is the correct way to go about it. The method works for me so I'm sticking to it unless someone can enlighten otherwise.

  • @Purpleyamz
    @Purpleyamz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    In this application, the plugin sounds a lot like listening to music through high-end "audiophile" speakers vs studio monitors - basically it seems to increase top end clarity / air while retaining a sense of "smoothness" and de-harshing the signal a bit.

      What I like is that if it's constantly boosting or cutting a frequency you can dive in there with a normal EQ and correct it first.

  • @Table-Top

    I got this a while ago and use it to tame resonant frequencies quickly. Works good for me. I'm happy with it.
    I tend to keep my recover/tame settings to about 30% or -30% because its easy to overdo it and end up with something brighter than you need.

  • @benjaminfeddersen7937
    @benjaminfeddersen7937 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    Not a pro by any means but I demo'd gullfoss and honestly I didn't really like what it was doing to the EQ. It REALLY goes after the highs, especially 10k plus, and maybe it's just a taste thing but it makes things sound tinny to me. A nice high shelf up to 10k gets me those upper harmonics without making it sound brittle and crystalline.

    • @Take-the-Ticket
      @Take-the-Ticket 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "Tame" and "Recover?" I'm going to watch the video but it seems pretty clear (cough) as to what it is about.

    • @inthemix
      @inthemix  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      When it affects the highs in a negative manner, just use the boundary control so that it can't affect the high frequencies?

    • @atellsoundtheory8774
      @atellsoundtheory8774 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The high-frequency treatment is very flexible and can be customized with the Brighten and Boost controls. If you get too much high-frequency gain, then it's likely you're overusing Recover on a source with unfavourable high-frequency content. In this case, reducing Recover or using Bias to favour Tame over Recover can help. If you still can't make it work, use the range selectors to exclude the offending range.

    • @Tekkerue
      @Tekkerue 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, I found the same thing and if they could add EQ-style curves for both tame and recover allowing you to fine tune the amounts of each one by frequency that would totally fix this issue. I've found a workaround myself by using more than one instance with the high/low boundaries to create a multiband setup. In one instance I set higher values for tame/recover on the low and mid frequencies which don't tend to get over-boosted and I filter out all of the high frequencies. Then in another instance I set lower values for tame/recover for just the high frequencies and I filter out all of the low frequencies. It's a bit of a pain, but it works for now.

    • @bl6628
      @bl6628 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Been using Gullfoss demo of a week and it is quite remarkable. I do believe this tech will blossom in the coming years and we'll see more like this. A little bit goes a long way because you can dial the "heart' from your mix in search of this "everything has to be flat" theory that seems to be in vogue. I can make some really flat, boring mixes but at around "20" for both recover and tame there's a nice sweet spot.

  • @warstone01

    You Neglected to explain the two little indicators on the bottom and on the left side of the graph. Depending on which direction the little bar extends from the centre, the bottom bar gives an indication on whether the effect has introduced to much brightness - extends to right, or has taken away too much brightness - extends to the left. So you can compensate accordingly using the brightness control. The side bar gives an indication of how much bias you need to apply or remove - extending up from centre requires an adjustment in the negative of the bias and visa versa. The aim with both indicators is to make them both disappear by adjusting the bias and brightness accordingly - They are only a guide because of coarse you can adjust them to your own taste. Ive been using Gullfoss for a few months and its an incredible 'must have' plugin. Love your work bud, You are a natural educator.

      Prabh They very different and I recommend both. Sooth is for making harsh synth leads/vocals/real instruments very soothing. It’s like having 100 EQs that remove all the bad sounding frequencies. Gullfoss is not as good for this. Gullfoss is best for bringing out clarity and balanced sound. Both are groundbreaking and must haves.

    On "Produce like a pro" I saw a production video that used clip gaining. It seams like a really useful technique for editing vocals. Could you do a video that show how to do this in FL studio?

    • @sheadz6841
      @sheadz6841 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This option is fantastic in protool it would be so great to visualise things like that in FL studio for vocal, there is an '' eq '' fonction in the effect of the sampler in FL but not as handy as the clip gain fonction as its affecting the whole sample . We will need to deal with our ears and our automation until they add that, anyway great idea

    • @DS-ru8gd
      @DS-ru8gd 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      you adjust clip gain in the channel rack in FL. its the vol dial on the left. or by double clicking the clip in question in the playlist

    • @sheadz6841
      @sheadz6841 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DS-ru8gd I know no worries, it's not a simple volume dial as we really see the waveform directly moving up or down a bit like the eq fonction in the sampler of but like i said not as handy

    Really great demonstration on the Gullfoss. I'm tyring out the demo right now and although I wouldn't specifically use it on the master for everything, It's still a great tool for bringing out a little more clarity on a track when you're looking for it!
    Also I gotta ask, Is that a "Black America Again" LP on your back shelf??

      If you've been given just one take to mix, run different guitar tone plugin instances on separate tracks. pan each way. Optionally add microtonal changes of a few cents to each track (side).
      Back in the 80s they used the microtonal trick on vocals to give them width for that 80s pop sound using the H3000. You can buy the VST version now, but you don't need it. There are many pitch change plugins that support micro-adjustments. Do the pitch change on the DI signal beofre tone processing.

      @@spxcemusic18 nah this doesn't really sound the same. For a double tracked effect I'd recommend Microshift by soundtoys. That gives you the effect of multiple takes.
      but of course the best way is to just double track it in a traditional way
