The five tips are: 1. Know your subject and your speech; 2. Know your audience and your space; 3. Never apologize; 4. Imagine yourself giving a great speech; and 5. Focus on your message, not on yourself.
I don't know about you guys, but I really wish I had been forced to take a public speaking class when I was younger. Its essential for everyone to know this skill, especially in America. Being able to speak in a comfortable, educational setting helped me get over my fear of public speaking. I didn't take one till college and it completely changed me.
What I do is imagine I'm just telling a story to a group of friends, this way I'm way more natural, calm and at ease with myself, at the same time as making my speech engaging and humorous even (: By the way I'm going through this competition on public speaking, and I'm through the first level, but this is because what is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT in competitions and similar situations, you have to remember that the judges are not looking for a speech about global warming or stereo typing. Yeah, your speach may be awesome, but they've heard it all before. What sparks their interests the most is original ideas, unique speeches they've never heard before. So today, when I made my speech out of 60 people, I was chosen over nearly professional speakers, who practically ooze confidence, because they all chose the cliche "media", "body image", "stereo typing" root. I, on the other hand, chose a topic that directly had a connection to me and I thought would be fun and engaging, I chose to tell everyone how I procrastinate. And I got through with only 7 other people out of the 60. Basically, just remember, in order to deliver a speech, you do not have to limit yourself to boring topics, choose a topic thats different, that will stand out and you feel passionately about.
Sahanara Nazmin The problem that I most struggle with is that in most of my presentations I laugh spontaneously and hysterically aloud with no reason at all😁 It became embarrassing, but in the first presentations they were laughing and they were enjoying it, but later they got sucked and I really try to work hard on holding in my laughs 😅 They think that I'm overconfident, but not a bit.
I'm a DTM and have been in Toastmasters for years. For the past decade I've been teaching business owners how to use public speaking to market themselves and create more sales and your tips are right on the money. Good job!
My mantra of public speech is to keep it very simple. 1) Simple and yet meaningful content 2) Simple style of delivery which is my own unique way consisting of the flow of words, pauses and smileys. 3) Simply being happy about my own speech at the end of it.
My tip is : try to do such a great speech and presentation that you just cannot wait to tell everyone. Haha this is what I do. Also rehearse a thousand times !
Lol yeah.. Cause I imagine myself on the stage. This is bad coz my career parg will forced me to make a lot of speaking in public. Already thinkingbto resign even b4 I start
After being told by my teacher that my presentation was graded harder because he expected more, i took it as a challenge. Thanks for this video, it definitely has a few good pointers ill learn to use. :D
This is what I learned in my voice classes.. Always look at your audience and don't ever say sorry!! Even when singing, not everyone can telll if you made a mistake unless you said it. So just be confident :D
Always before presentation I become nervous and have stomachache :/Whenever I present in class, my voice starts shaking, heart beats too fast and I forget everything and tell meaningless things and pray presentation to end :/ I just hate this :(
Being a confident speaker begins with having a great topic! Need an informative speech topic? Just ask me. Need a persuasive speech topic? Just ask me. Topic Genie is Fast, Fun, and Easy!
One word, xanax. I was so nervous before my presentation that I almost dropped the class, and it was a required public speaking class. Took 1mg xanax and 20mg adderall, I walked in the class feeling like a god and was wondering why I was nervous in the first place. Gotta take the adderall to keep away the mental impairment from the benzo
This is the Best Channel! I think fear comes when we don't have plan-B in place. This i learned when i accidentally came to know of this iPhone app called "no fear" by lokesh. It helps to create list fears, create plan-B, achieve it so that we remain in control. i removed 2 fears like this!
I think the best advice given about public speaking is Knowing your subject well. I notice when I speak about something that I am passionate about I am less nervous.
The last speech I gave I ran from the room and cried. Not to mention the professor called attention to the flaws in my speech in front of everyone so it made things a lot worse. It was absolutely horrible. I have to give 2 speeches this semester. I just hope I can get through it.
It took me many years to build up public speaking confidence, I found out if you concentrate on the subject rather then yourself you wont get out of control. And also leave audience questioning til the very end.
I teach High School Engineering and one of the subjects I cover and make the students do is Public Speaking. The 5 tips listed here are great but there are 2 more that I teach and fully believe in that should be listed here as well.First, don't forget to BREATH! With over 30 years of professional work experience (private sector and public education), I have seen my share of people who actually forget to breath when they speak and/or present! And I have seen at least 3 people who actually passed out. Remember, you are human and you need air!Second, SILENCE IS GOLDEN! When presenting it is not required for you to be talking, or making some kind of noise every second of your speech/presentation! In fact, silence built in to your speech allows your audience to absorb more of what you present by giving them time to let it soak in and process it. And during these silent times is a great opportunity for you to breath (see above)! There are other tips that I would like to list here but this is where I will stop. I am a previous member of Toastmasters (for 8 years) and I highly recommend them if you want to learn and practice public speaking! While I still get butterflies in my stomach before I present (it keeps me humble), public speaking and presenting is fun!
Thanks for these HELPFUL advices.. My Teacher planned to make a speech.. and I need to memorize it. Thanks so much for these. It's making me more confident now!
Excellent Video! Thanks for sharing. I was a scared crow and all my friends used to tease me like anything. I was feeling low confident and low self-esteem. My brother introduced me to this "no fear" mobile app by lokesh , which made me manage. my fears in a very methodical way and now because of this my fears are reducing one by one. I am much more confident and people are amazed at me!
Thank you so much for sharing us! I loved all the tips I'm a type of person who likes to talk to other people. Moreover, I like to make presentations as I believe It's the best way to improve communication and develop skills! I confuss that when I need to do some like that I tend to get a little nervous and apprehensive. Anyway, I believe that these tips will be very useful!
My igcse speaking exam is tomorrow. It really helped me to overcome fear and nervousness!!! I'm not a native speaker, but i'm going to take first language exam :( I have studied english for only 3 years( no practice for speaking )
ok thanks xD My teacher weirdly said my voice was projected and calm, and i engaged well with my audience, but it was my body that showed my nerves- i raked my fingers through my hair a lot xD
Great content and THANK YOU! I especially appreciate your segment on preparing the speech. I always thought that I should be as natural as possible with little to no preparation, But now I see the importance of being prepared so that I CAN be more creative around speech's structure.
Yes! it is all so true this info, we newcomers know this and mean to get it together it should be simple, but putting it into practice is another thing when the nerves take over .
thanks for this, speaking in public is my biggest fear, i didnt do so well last semester in public speaking, so im taking it again, i had trouble last semester speaking in front of 9 people, now my class has a total of 26...
thanks for the tips...i will be taking up the class starting tomorrow and i have mixed emotions at the moment......nervous and excited at the same time lol
I have this subject called communication skills... today was first day of my class.. our professor told us to talk about experience on sem1... everyone went and spoke ..I was the last person..I sucked at it... so bad...
I had Education Service Learning and I sucked REAL BAD. My voice changed in tone, my body was shaking and my face was a tomato. You know something tho? No one really cares, that's the beauty of it. When you speak, pretend like you have a friend you're speaking to and not a group of people. The audience is always rooting for you, they never want you to fail or give a bad public speech, if you do they will also feel awkward. Go in with good vibes, think positive, and just know, everyone is with you and not against you :)
I've given no. Of speeches in front of my school and otherschools as well! I was chosen as an anchor for annual function and I have used the stage many times! Still whenever I have to give a speech I get extremely nervous at the starting ! Although I become normal whilin the midst of it ! It prevents my speech from going excellent . Any solution to that? Can confidence be premanent?
practice breathing techniques. you can also use an anchor, like a bottle of water or a certain color. Program your mind in advance with this affirmation: Every time i see the color " " (or every time i think about water) I am calm, relaxed and confident.
That’s really great, I am following them and really getting good benefits, guys if you are reading my comment I would say follow them all, then only u will be good at them, not only by listening 😃👍
Really. Helpull points. Wanted to join toestmaster club on public speaking. Please subject a educational with multicultural community. Subscribed the channel.
Thanks for this video! The speaking tips were very interesting. The second was remarcable for me. Know my audience and speech´s place require a litle research, this is extra work but it will be benefic for my objetives. Maybe in the future I would call to specialist in market research to know the main elements to know an audience and place, I think that they know about this.
I agree with you, and was impressed with your video. But there are different contexts, audience, etc. One might be able to have a more natural and conversational tone and another might require a more polished, albeit corporate, style of speech. Communication is audience centered and his audience and his message do require a bit different style. Cheers,
I hate it when that happens, you're prepared for something then your nerves get the better of you and you forget. I got my French speaking exam coming up so I'm just hoping I'll be okay for that and not refuse to do it

I took one in college and I crash and burned and it only made me more scared of PS
I agree. This should be required in high school, along with courses in civics and critical thinking.
"Especially in America"?! Rubbish.
What I do is imagine I'm just telling a story to a group of friends, this way I'm way more natural, calm and at ease with myself, at the same time as making my speech engaging and humorous even (:

i cant help smiling while listening to him.. his voice and facial expression really knows how to capture me..

Fear of public speaking can be overcome
Yes it can! I am proof of that!

And is totally 'over expressions'. It is killing me.
oh my god its so uncomfortable now that i notice it
I tend to focus on myself when speaking publicly and not on the topic of conversation, this is great advice, time to put it to practice.
This is what I learned in my voice classes.. Always look at your audience and don't ever say sorry!! Even when singing, not everyone can telll if you made a mistake unless you said it. So just be confident :D

Love this! I"m giving my first talk on the 20th at the Lion's Club on healthy eating... I'll be practicing this week!
Always before presentation I become nervous and have stomachache :/Whenever I present in class, my voice starts shaking, heart beats too fast and I forget everything and tell meaningless things and pray presentation to end :/ I just hate this :(

Thanks for great tips, definitely these will help us improve for speech delivery.
One thing I found most helpful during a presentation was to take off my glasses. It works!!
I think it's a good idea to involve your audience too, it connects you with them and so breaks up the divide.

I agree - Toastmasters is a good way to learn how to be a better public speaker. They teach a system of public speaking.

Do you know of any book which says 4-5 probable answers to tricky questions. So there s a list of q&a
