Gujarat is trading hub from the time of indus valley civilization. It really shows the continuity of civilization for 5000 years. Precious stones, pottery, tools, clothes were tarded between Mesopotamia and IVC by seabroute and land route.
Had it not been for devastating floods and fires in the 1820s, Surat would not have been replaced by Mumbai as the financial capital of India
My grandfather’s father (great grandfather) & all his brothers, their childrens, literally entire villages in Bhavnagar district used to do diamond trading since 70s. Most my relatives are either moved to textile industry or still in diamond industry.

When the migrant labourers are not required they either need to find new job or go to native place. Its the rule everywhere. Whether reskilling is concerned, it depends on every peculiar condition in context of overall situation

Interesting topic. I am European citizen and my country's border is next to Russia. Russia started the war in Ukraine in 2014. The second war phase started in 2022 February 24. I would like to say that Russia is not a country to hold business ties with. Sooner or later the same output will be achieved. EU sanctions is affecting Russian businesses. At the moment Russian economy is focused on investing to the war. Diamond processing businesses in Surat is facing recession which affects maybe 250.000 people in general. But think how many people suffer, because of Russian war? Ukraine nation, Georgia etc. We all living in a global world and war or other critical cases affects us all.
We are not going to condemn the Russians... We respect other countries decisions. We are not puppet

CVD machines which makes diamonds are super costly. Plus, you need to pay staff and maintain facilities, as well make profit. It take month or 1.5 months to make a single patch of diamonds and machines runs 24 hours to produce heat and pressure which uses high electricity.
