There are some that complain about the fact that you use grenades when you specified in the title pistol only. You just finished the game with only 1 gun from the entire arsenal, and that gun is the pistol (I'm not even mad, that's amazing.), but people still complain about the use of grenades. It was a pleasure watching you carefuly placing your barrels and kiting the demons and not taking a single hit in most of the fights. A good day sir!
Let's just put it this way... this is the best you're gonna get. Doing this run without grenades for the splash and chip damage would be impossible. Doing it without certain runes would be impossible. Doing it without pistol and praetor upgrades would be impossible. Now let's go into detail why I say this. Grenades do a lot of splash damage that helps you contain and control every fight. There are particular runes that assist you in killing certain demons quicker, like the hallway fight right before the hell guardians. This fight would be virtually impossible without grenades and the equipment rune. And then there's the pistol upgrades, without the faster charge you wouldn't be able to do enough damage to one demon period. There are so many variables, so much room for error, and with just how I did it it's the only plausible or probable way to pull off a "pistol only" run. Like I said there are so many variables in play that could completely screw you up and without these tools you just couldn't pull it off.
I'm sorry if you believed I wanted to critize you. I only wanted to say that I appreciate your run, and for me it doesn't matter what you used besides using the pistol, actually you using the barrels and grenades really made me realise just how important they actually are at the highest difficulty.

The way you drag them and take them out is nearly flawless. Your execution of glory kills in the blink of an eye shows you know where you hit them, and how many of those types of hits are required. Your aim is near devine, LoL, those hell knights on part 3 of last level. Utilization of grenades is brilliant, perfect nades for each occasion. Great usage of runes, again like the grenades, you use them just right. Holy crap, rapid fire pistol. Health is nearly a non issue, your armor is so high all the time. I panicked when you got stuck on the rocks in the pinky hallway in the Lazarus labs. Nice rail jumping and rail dodge on the cyber demon. The last few battles had me sweating bullets watching, especially when the barons got involved, did I count 3 barons 1 caco 1 mancubus?! My wife probably rolled her eyes multiple times hearing me cry out "oh my god....OH my GOD.....OH MY GOD!!!" You are the DoomSlayer Zo...
TetchyEquation if you count using grenades then yea MAYBE it's possible but with ONLY melee? Yea I don't think so. Seriously, have you tried playing Ultra Nightmare because you can be killed in 5 seconds flat if you're not careful with what you're doing.

I mean he did also use the gauss rifle but it’s not cheating in my opinion. The only GUN he used to KILL MONSTERS was the pistol, so I think it counts. Also, I have never blown my self up, that’s just stupid.

@@Thesandman1254 yeah, the cyberdemon has bullet hell attacks and is the only boss that limits your movements. On nightmare it took me 10 attempts to beat it when the mastermind only killed me once.
That bullshit with the fight in the coolant room in the Vega level happened to me too. All the enemies were dead, the combat music kept playing (at least it's one of the best tracks in the game), I fired every BFG round I could find in the hopes that it'd kill the final elusive demon with it's seeking feature. Nothing. Had to restart. That's a SERIOUS glitch. It's worse than a texture not loading in, or sounds not playing, because it actually prevents your progression through the game. Add in Ultra Nightmare difficulty and the fact that this is VERY late in the game, and we have a recipe for some of the most unfair shit ever.
Don’t mean to be rude or anything, but it took you 6 hours to beat on your first play through, I played it first on UV, collecting everything, and beat it in 4 hours.

Man, I totally envy you for your skill. Even on the easiest difficulty w/ no weapon restrictions I'm having major difficulties to control the situation at times. Also, your playthrough is the 1st one I can truly enjoy, because it's so precise and focussed. All those people frantically bouncing all over the place and swapping weapons every 2 seconds absolutely drive me nuts :).
By the way, because the Doom campaign happens "in real time" (no skips or time jumps) this is basically a live coverage of Doomguy stopping a planetary Hell invasion in 6 and a half hours. Using only a pistol.
what the actual fuck....i struggled on my first blind playthru i just completed yesterday...on hurt me plenty difficulty...and this guy raped the whole game with a stun gun... the craziest part is you only have 626 (*ahem* you're welcome 😏) subs too!!
Only Thing I find odd is that you use the Gauss cannon to dodge the Cyberdemon Laser attack. I didn't know that firing it while in siege mode caused it to recoil so hard it actually pulls you back...
jlstr he wasn’t using siege mode on the gauss cannon, he just shot it regularly. Although, the recoil-boost is very useful as I found while trying to find all the secrets.
I am about 1/3 of the way through this... unbelievable, it's like a movie. I have to pause it to see which runes and powerups you select. Really good use of the quad damage and haste etc.
Why do people jump up and over from the front side to get the doomguy/blue keycard in the first level? Like, it seems to be taking more time to do the jump from there than it would to just... walk around the corner.

@@zomeister8367No… I think the dislikes and hate are because your title says “Pistol Only”, but then you use grenades, melee, and other weapons (I just watched you do the Rune challenge with a shotgun. The shotgun is mandatory for the challenge, but the challenge is not mandatory for the run, so you’re still getting an upgrade through the use of a different weapon). This is more of a “Mostly Pistols” run. They’re not belittling your accomplishment. They ARE asking you to check your claim, though. This is definitely not a “Pistols Only” run.
He beat the game in about 6 and a half hours, with a pistol only, and a death (lmao), on the hardest difficulty. I've had this game for MONTHS and still haven't beat the campaign on the easiest difficulty. Props to you zomeister.

I would've blown my brains out if I had to do this on Ultra- Nightmare. I managed to get through a nightmare pistol run, using grenades as well, with the chainsaw and bfg being used vary sparingly. Bravo.

I'm not trying to be negative or an ass but it just doesn't feel right to me. I personally play nightmare, and the hell knights and imps never let off my ass. Here I see them just sit there and stare or just In general too merciful. Idk maybe this guy is just so good it looks that way, but its really got me concerned on how the demons are acting
Simple truth is, the AI is shit. Even after their ninja buff back in august the AI was partially improved. Aim and aggressiveness was about the only thing changed.
I had a brief go at this difficulty, and I got my ass kicked in the first fight lol. Much kudos for doing all this with only the pistol as an official weapon. I'm not super happy with the use of the frag grenade in particular, however. It does pretty good dmg, aoe at that. Hologram would be legit usable in my opinion, because it does not do any dmg. By "pistol only" one generally understands "no other means of dmg other than the bullets from the pistol." Explosive barrels are fine as a result. Orbs are a different matter. Haste, immortality, quad dmg should be assumed fine. Berserk is arguable though, because fists become the weapon technically, but they all count as glory kills, which is a very valuable source of heal given how little pickups seem to give. In my opinion orbs should be legit too. But if you wanna have zero controversy, just outline the rules in the beginning you will be following. Because pistol only title is just wrong.
His blast threw me off the ledge so I paused and used task manager to save my game and restart that fight so I didn't kill myself from falling in the world.
+zomeister As impressive as this run may initially seem, exiting out with task manager completely disqualifies this from being a legitimate UN run. Exiting to prevent a world death is a form of cheating. It's a shame you felt you had to resort to that method to get through UN. It makes me doubt the credibility of the rest of the run.

i love how they integrated parts of old Doom levels into this game. I saw somebody else claim they were playing on this difficulty but im sure now that they just titled the run that because your monsters are actually fighting and not just standing around for target practice. love the run

A GTX 970 isn't too powerful. As powerful as a RX 480 (~$200 GPU). Doom is just VERY well optimized. I wished more games were like Doom. Only other game that graphically amazing and really easy to run is Battlefront.

If you use a task manager to cancel out a death then that really doesn't qualify bro. Don't get me wrong it's an impressive run no doubt and I applaud if you legitimately did it, but you really didn't complete it so you need to own up to that. If you get used to making videos like this without actually accomplishing the feat that you're claiming to have done, you're either going to lose followers or potential subscribers won't be as likely to support you. I'm not trying to be a dick by saying this, just a word of advice.

Admittingly I haven't watched the vid I only read the comments (sorry I don't have 6 hours to watch one playthrough, my data won't allow it for one), but I have added the vid to my watch later so I can eventually check it out. I've attempted Ultra Nightmare myself on PS4 and I was only able to make it to the second chapter after about 7 tries (and only died because I was stupid enough to go for that hidden lever and I fell down that gap because that ledge is difficult to grab) so the fact you made it that far with only the pistol, freaking amazes me. I'd be lucky to even make it past the first chapter only using it. Also if you're going to use grenades or any sort of equipment options I would recommend mentioning it in the description because as you can no doubt see, people are vultures and they will latch on to anything you do and anything you say so if you say pistol only, it better be pistol ONLY, unless you specify otherwise. Still even if you do use the grenade this is an impressive feat and if you legitimately pull it off, the haters can say what they want but they can't take away the accomplishment. Just dodge the bullets and ignore the criticism because you will have the naysayers, but I'm sure you knew that. Good luck in accomplishing that goal, though I don't see how the hell one could possibly beat the Cyberdemon with just Pistol, much less the Spider Mastermind.

I've known many games that had bugs that prevented your progress or completion of them: Jet Set Willy, for example.
You can jump the energy fence with the impulse pads, just make sure to aim upwards and save the double jump when reaching the maximum height.

This whole run is impressive but that Cyber Demon fight was so fucking epic.
Man, I totally envy you for your skill. Even on the easiest difficulty w/ no weapon restrictions I'm having major difficulties to control the situation at times. Also, your playthrough is the 1st one I can truly enjoy, because it's so precise and focussed. All those people frantically bouncing all over the place and swapping weapons every 2 seconds absolutely drive me nuts :).

Only Thing I find odd is that you use the Gauss cannon to dodge the Cyberdemon Laser attack. I didn't know that firing it while in siege mode caused it to recoil so hard it actually pulls you back...
jlstr he wasn’t using siege mode on the gauss cannon, he just shot it regularly.
Although, the recoil-boost is very useful as I found while trying to find all the secrets.
I played ultra nightmare and died in seconds. You completed with one weapon. That is fucking insane. You are the ultimate doom guy.

I am about 1/3 of the way through this... unbelievable, it's like a movie. I have to pause it to see which runes and powerups you select. Really good use of the quad damage and haste etc.
The games developers could not even complete ultra nightmare with all weapons so this is amazing

Why do people jump up and over from the front side to get the doomguy/blue keycard in the first level? Like, it seems to be taking more time to do the jump from there than it would to just... walk around the corner.

@@zomeister8367No… I think the dislikes and hate are because your title says “Pistol Only”, but then you use grenades, melee, and other weapons (I just watched you do the Rune challenge with a shotgun. The shotgun is mandatory for the challenge, but the challenge is not mandatory for the run, so you’re still getting an upgrade through the use of a different weapon).
This is more of a “Mostly Pistols” run.
They’re not belittling your accomplishment. They ARE asking you to check your claim, though. This is definitely not a “Pistols Only” run.

He beat the game in about 6 and a half hours, with a pistol only, and a death (lmao), on the hardest difficulty. I've had this game for MONTHS and still haven't beat the campaign on the easiest difficulty. Props to you zomeister.

I would've blown my brains out if I had to do this on Ultra- Nightmare. I managed to get through a nightmare pistol run, using grenades as well, with the chainsaw and bfg being used vary sparingly. Bravo.

I'm not trying to be negative or an ass but it just doesn't feel right to me. I personally play nightmare, and the hell knights and imps never let off my ass. Here I see them just sit there and stare or just In general too merciful. Idk maybe this guy is just so good it looks that way, but its really got me concerned on how the demons are acting
Simple truth is, the AI is shit. Even after their ninja buff back in august the AI was partially improved. Aim and aggressiveness was about the only thing changed.

zomeister Bullshit, l got this game day 2 (missed day 1) the demons were tough as balls, on my ass all the way to the end.
I had a brief go at this difficulty, and I got my ass kicked in the first fight lol. Much kudos for doing all this with only the pistol as an official weapon. I'm not super happy with the use of the frag grenade in particular, however. It does pretty good dmg, aoe at that. Hologram would be legit usable in my opinion, because it does not do any dmg. By "pistol only" one generally understands "no other means of dmg other than the bullets from the pistol." Explosive barrels are fine as a result.
Orbs are a different matter. Haste, immortality, quad dmg should be assumed fine. Berserk is arguable though, because fists become the weapon technically, but they all count as glory kills, which is a very valuable source of heal given how little pickups seem to give. In my opinion orbs should be legit too.
But if you wanna have zero controversy, just outline the rules in the beginning you will be following. Because pistol only title is just wrong.

+zomeister As impressive as this run may initially seem, exiting out with task manager completely disqualifies this from being a legitimate UN run. Exiting to prevent a world death is a form of cheating. It's a shame you felt you had to resort to that method to get through UN. It makes me doubt the credibility of the rest of the run.

i love how they integrated parts of old Doom levels into this game. I saw somebody else claim they were playing on this difficulty but im sure now that they just titled the run that because your monsters are actually fighting and not just standing around for target practice. love the run

A GTX 970 isn't too powerful. As powerful as a RX 480 (~$200 GPU). Doom is just VERY well optimized. I wished more games were like Doom. Only other game that graphically amazing and really easy to run is Battlefront.
I have an amd rx 470 and I get 100+ on max settings, doom is a well optimised game

If you use a task manager to cancel out a death then that really doesn't qualify bro. Don't get me wrong it's an impressive run no doubt and I applaud if you legitimately did it, but you really didn't complete it so you need to own up to that. If you get used to making videos like this without actually accomplishing the feat that you're claiming to have done, you're either going to lose followers or potential subscribers won't be as likely to support you. I'm not trying to be a dick by saying this, just a word of advice.
You're absolutely right. I'm redoing it currently, and while the AI change is making it a pain to relearn I'm sure this will close any follow up questions.
zomeister Wow I'm kinda surprised. No offense, but I wasn't expecting you take that so well since most people typically don't and resort to petty insults. Admittingly I haven't watched the vid I only read the comments (sorry I don't have 6 hours to watch one playthrough, my data won't allow it for one), but I have added the vid to my watch later so I can eventually check it out. I've attempted Ultra Nightmare myself on PS4 and I was only able to make it to the second chapter after about 7 tries (and only died because I was stupid enough to go for that hidden lever and I fell down that gap because that ledge is difficult to grab) so the fact you made it that far with only the pistol, freaking amazes me. I'd be lucky to even make it past the first chapter only using it.
Also if you're going to use grenades or any sort of equipment options I would recommend mentioning it in the description because as you can no doubt see, people are vultures and they will latch on to anything you do and anything you say so if you say pistol only, it better be pistol ONLY, unless you specify otherwise. Still even if you do use the grenade this is an impressive feat and if you legitimately pull it off, the haters can say what they want but they can't take away the accomplishment. Just dodge the bullets and ignore the criticism because you will have the naysayers, but I'm sure you knew that. Good luck in accomplishing that goal, though I don't see how the hell one could possibly beat the Cyberdemon with just Pistol, much less the Spider Mastermind.
