    Hello! My name is Mitch and I am relatively new to the golf game! I began as a 25 handicap golfer a little over 2 years ago and have managed to work my way down to my current handicap of 9! My goal is to make it to at least a single-figure handicap as soon as possible and possibly even lower!
    My latest investment has been a SkyTrak golf simulator and launch monitor, so that i can improve my golf game at home and especially indoors during the winter months. On my channel you will find some helpful tips and tricks related to SkyTrak, as well as monitoring my progress out on the golf course. I will upload how to videos, comparison videos and also some all important course vlogs!
    I hope you enjoy the content and I especially hope that you find some helpful information from my experiences along the way!
    Please like and subscribe! Any comments, questions or opinions then feel free to leave them below and I will happily get back to you!

    Playing alone is a great tip actually that many golfers don't consider. When I play with friends it's to enjoy the time outside and banter etc but when I play alone, it's 100% focused on my golf game and trying to improve.

    Playing alone produces more focus. I generally play 2 balls on all par 3's with different clubs. My chipping has recently gone SOUTH. I have a session coming up with my pro. I have started out with 2 doubles and shot 82. I'm A 20 and have been in the 80's quite frequently. Everything this guy is saying is absolutely spot on! Forget a bad hole and monitor where you're at during the round. Don't go for the hero shot when things aren't going well unless tip number 1 is in your bag

One i have is a similar drill to Tigers gate drill (can use balls instead of tees on a mat) Then about 2 putter heads away have another gate (or balls) just big enough for the ball you hit to pass through. Great advice I’ve followed these tips and at the age of 73 I’m down from 22.3 to 15.3 in six months . I’m still working on my game and would add a couple more points. Relax don’t let your arms get too tight. Chill when I’m not playing a shot I think of other things when I’m ready get in the zone. Finally on equipment leave your ego at the door get fitted and go for clubs that you like the look of but give you the best results.
    Why play blades when you can get good looking but more forgiving clubs. Lastly enjoy your golf, make a decision and accept the outcome if it’s bad learn from it move on to the next shot. Take the pressure off mentally say I’d like to make the green here not I must or need to hit the green. Play percentage shots only get aggressive near the hole, that’s how the pros play. Good luck to you and all my fellow golfers.

    Once a week player whos been stuck at 18 for 2 yrs , my ball striking has improved greatly this year and has given me the confidence to know that im going to hit the number , this in turn has allowed me to manage the bad breaks and get out with bogey , im now regularly hitting mid eighties and feel the scores falling easier . I do struggle to stay focused through the last 4/5 holes and this needs addressing .
    Im not good with aggresive putting but always now read greens from both sides and have a stable pre putt routine this has improved my putting massively.

    Congrats on your accomplishment. Scratch is right around the corner! My advice blends number 1 and number 2, and it is this:
    Practice practice practice your shots from 120 yards in. Hit those shots till your shoulders hurt and your eyes bleed. Learn your gapping. Provided you are not hitting balls OB, on almost any hole (par 4 or par 5) you can get the ball to 120 or in within two shots. Even on a 520 yard par 5, if you are decent with your 5-iron, you can hit it twice (200 each) to get within 120 yards.
    There are multiple times I will go to the range and only bring 7 clubs: PW (46 degree), GW (50 degree), and my 52, 54, 56, 58 and 60. And I won't hit my PW very much at all. Full shots, 3/4 shots, 1/2 shots, etc... And while the Skytrak is great, a lot of your wedge practice needs to be done on real turf.
    You can never have enough wedges. Get comfortable with what bounce you want and what grinds are good for you.

      love that! definitely great advice thanks for sharing! since having my SkyTrak, I practice 100 yards and in regularly using the randomiser and skills assessment features. this practice has definitely improved my game as it has made me confident that I can hit a green 7/10 whereas before it was about 4/10! also helped massively with my distance control.

      That’s why I play a lot at tight par-3 courses, good for your approach and short game. Also you can do 18 holes in a short time.

    • @hcpgolf
      @hcpgolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s a good point. But if you’re at risk of going out of bounds with driver then don’t use it. If it’s a par 4, then play it as a par 5. A bogey is better than a double if you take driver and go OB

    • @bangskott661

    Just to clarify, the number of 7.4 is your 'index' (or factor), not your 'handicap'.
    Your handicap is the number of strokes you receive for a given round calculated using your index and rating/slope values for the particular course and tees used.
    So, on an easier course, your handicap may be 7, while on a more difficult course it could be 9.

    • @hcpgolf

      You’re correct - but to be fair when this video was made - we were still on the old handicap system in the UK. So your same handicap transferred from course to course. Now it has changed 👍🏼

      No worries. And, I was not being critical in any way, just trying to make the distinction between the two terms.
      Out of curiosity, I'm interested to know how the UK system used to work where a handicap transferred from course to course. I ask because under the current system your 'index' is yours regardless of where you're playing for any given round (so, in effect, it follows you from course to course).

    • @hcpgolf
      @hcpgolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Whatever your handicap was at your home course just transferred over to any other course, no matter how easy/difficult the other course may be. It may well have been technically named your index but commonly everyone just called it your handicap

    Practice with a purpose, play to your strengths, and replace concentrate with confidents(just be confident don't over think it), honestly I could go on for hours. Stay within your abilities when playing a shot and practice your short game 1000hrs a week and the rest of your game will develop. pitch and chip pitch and chip and putting pitch and chip.........LOL

    I play off +2 and simple fact is 90% of golfers dont practice correctly. They rock up to the driving range hit 10 iron shot and 20 drives. Hit the putting green for 2 mins and tee off. Fact is, you should practice 3 hrs min a week and 70% should be short game only. Get your wedge set up and fitted. Do gapping and know your distances with all clubs (carry and total). Learn a stock shot shape and work on that as your go to confident shape. Enjoy

    As a former 7 handicapper myself I'll also add:
    1) track your fairways hit, greens in regulation, # putts and # up and downs around the green for each round you play. This will tell you where you can best improve. If you're hitting fairways but not greens, work on ball striking. More than two three-putts a round, lag putting etc.
    2) play to hit fairways and greens in regulation. Just get it on the green. Even if you two-putt 14 holes and three-putt four times you're a low single digit handicapper overnight. Length off the tee is not relevant if you're playing the correct set of tees for your skill level. For an amateur with questionable ball striking a 230 yard FW wood to the middle of the fairway is better than 245 in the rough with a driver (pros play the opposite).
    3) don't just hit balls. I'll disagree with his recommendation here. Get lessons instead, then practice your swing. Ingraining bad swing habits by hitting 200 balls a day won't serve you well in the long run.
    4) as a 7 handicapper my equipment was pretty dialed in. I found a ball I liked (Callaway HX) that behaved well for my game, and I used it to practice with and for every single round. I had a wedge set that worked for me and a driver/three wood/rescue club that all served their purposes well. Ten years later I'm using the same equipment, if it works don't mess with it.
    5) lastly, 80% of practice should be on short game. I found a two hour block of time a couple days a week and spent one block on putting and one on chipping and bunker play. Two hours putting is a long time, my back used to get tired at that point and my concentration waned, so I called it a day. But after hour one you begin to get dialed in with your stroke and your touch and in hour two you're making almost everything you look at. Half an hour of being bored with seeing the ball drop paid huge dividends at game time.
