I'm sure the majority of us vintage movie watchers shed a tear (myself included) over not only what America has lost, but what all people have lost in the last 70-80 years...especially the younger generation, who now must live an almost torturous existence with social media. We used to be able to buy a house, a car, have children, live contented,...on only a basic salary.
I LOVED this film! To begin with, I watched only because Bobby Breen was the star, (and yes, I saw the adorable Irene Dare!). It didn't take long to fall in love with everything about it. The era, the gentle Mennonites, the farm life, etc. Superb acting and wonderful sweet storyline. This is definitely on my list to watch at least once a year. A true "feel good" movie. Excellent movie, Pizza flix ,I really like Charlie Ruggles, Bobby Breen, & Irene Dare can sure skate oh ! & I must also include that mule! And those happy endings , alls well, that ends well ! Thanks for another great movie. Also note, Delores Costello , from Magnificent Ambersons , she was a good actress also. Ah, all the fantastic movies from this era,were just Wonderful, thanks Pizza Flix !

I love all the rolling backdrops used in this movie. An orchestra at a skating rink? SINCE WHEN? Interesting that you can see the camera rigging tracks on the ice as it pulls back. And boy, that's a long show for that little girl. She must be exhausted at the end of it!

A Big Show by a little girl: the signboard says, “Specialty act Irene Dare five year old figure skater” The 1st one 44:18 and 2nd 56:45 with the CIRCUS BALLET is awesome as super job. At 53:00 Bobby singing with the orchestra at first with applause and his second one 1:01:36 saying “Tommy Martin as singing skate boy” both of which, apparently were the part of usual life shown; not limited to this movie. I adore such a peaceful world. No more war.
😀😀😁😁😂😂😂 hollywierd has ALWAYS portrayed God and those who know him in this way , and the sad ( funny) thing is you and most others believe it to be true . now if the had been showing any other ( catholic , buddhist ,muslim , etc.) they would have portrayed them as sensible and level headed .
Life as a Mennonite has certainly changed for the better, since the time when this film was made; this reminds Me more of the Amish. …I’ve been blessed to have acquaintances over the years with People from (both) the Hutterite and Mennonite Peoples here in Alberta, and have often thought what it would be to live that Lifestyle; I’d miss colour and Independamce too-much.
Bobby Breen had a wonderful singing voice an the little girl was just wonderful on the ice. Did the have long acting careers in the movies? This is just a cute movie for its time, with down to earthiness of mother an Aunt and villainess Uncle and don't fore the crooked friend cheating him out of his singing money 💰 (Slick 😎).
Well actually his beautiful voice was only temporary like so many kids it changed later on . Irene Dare made 3 ice skating movies as a child and is still living 89 years young.
