Big Green Egg charcoal is made by Royal oak.we bagged both side by side from the SAME hoppers.royal oak 30 pound bag...$18.Big Green Egg bag...$60 and 24 pounds.can't tell you how many rail road tie plates we pulled out off conveyer belts feeding the hoppers.
I've been cooking on Kamado's for 30 years and I can tell you that you can use about 1/3'd of the charcoal that he put in there. It will get plenty hot and is much easier to control when you have the right amount of lump charcoal in there. He's trying to sell as much charcoal as he can and is misleading you. On the original clay ones that came from Japan in the 50's and 60's, they would tell you to count out just a handful of briquette's to cook with.
Well that is awfully cynical and accepting facts not in evidence: How is he ''trying to sell as much charcoal as he can'' when the unburned charcoal can used next time?
@@dontherealartistI'm sure you've learned this by now, but the charcoal is a recurring cost, so he recommends putting in more than what's needed to cook at any given moment. As you can see in the cleaning segment that partially burnt or just plain broken charcoal will slip through the air holes leaving wasted charcoal
The egg is great if you want to hang around and monitor your cooking throughout the smoke time. There's nothing wrong with that either. However if you want to go do other things and "set it and forget it" this is not what you are looking for.
I happily go along with it as long as someone else does it for me ! sounds great but looks like you need to sit an exam before embarking on this , I note that others have fans to blow the smoke away , plus all the additional tools you need !
I reuse the charcoal from cook to cook. Stir the ash, Refresh the burnt charcoal with new and light again. I don’t change mine out, I burn thru it. Happy Cooking. Chef Jason
they all to cook the same and provide that same Kamado cooking style and flavor. I feel the egg is easier to operate, I have only used the other ones 1-2 times each, but feel the egg is the overall better cooker. Chef Jason
Not exactly what you were asking, but for those who are interested, the important difference for me is that the Kamoda Joe is made in China. I choose to support North American economies. This may not be important to others....
How do you feed the fire ... can’t figure it out do you need to remove everything on top to feed it ... thinking on buying one but can’t figure that part out any help is appreciated
What do you mean by feeding the fire? IF you mean how do you increase the fire/temperature by letting in more air. The Egg has two restrictions at the top and bottom if you want to make it hotter just slide the bottom more open and leave a slight gap in the stop one.. As natural convection will happen and will increase the fire as you are letting in more air for the charcoal.
@@MrMrRubic I have an XL and It holds a shit ton of charcoal, I would say a good 12 to 15 hours worth at low temps. If you forget to add before you start and its running out only thing to do is take off the rack with your food and dump in more charcoal, and hope you dont get a spike.
This thorough and excellent video shows every single step to prepare your BBQ and watching it to the end helped me decide not to buy this thing. BBQ shouldn't be this complicated.
Hi TImmie, When you buy your new Big Green Egg, one of the suggested steps is to cook the first few times at temps not over 350 degrees. This not only allows the gaskets to properly set, but also helps in seasoning or breaking in your new Egg. Chef Jason, our Grill Expert, suggests you cook chicken or steaks the first couple times too, this allows you to learn the adjustments needed to control the temps between the bottom and top setting. Happy Cooking and congrats on your new Big Green Egg!
To save $ I'll use the lens from my old rear projector TV to ignite the charcoal. I'll equip it to trace best sun angle and distance to coals. I'll make sure there is no mercury
way easier to use a Weber. I came because of commercial. But its just more work and prep and care than needed. I think the ignitor needs some work. Why would I want to worry about some external item being hot other than the grill around the kids. the wood starters is the safest way. Good luck got me to look so your commercial worked.
Terrible. You spent 4:15 of the 7 minutes introducing Green egg accessories and products. You didn't actually show how to use it like what "patented stainless steel damper" setting to us to get to a certain temperature and maintain it. Or any other tip on how to really cool with the egg. Just how to start it, which any monkey with a lighter can do, and also how to shut down it down...using the "patterned stainless steel damper"

I want that thank you to more sincere, I was going to buy a big green from you guys but hesitated at last minute hearing how insincere that thank you was.
This looks like a stupid super expensive charcoal grill completely unnecessary I can cook amazing meat on my Weber charcoal grill for a fraction of the price

I played a drinking game taking a shot of Jack every time he said "patented stainless steel draft door." I'm not feeling too good right now

He closes all the vents to extinguish the fire so the remaining charcoal can be used again. I think you are mistaken

They sell this at borough kitchen shop in chiswick west London. And use this in London hotels
What do you think of the Kick Ash Basket?
