Did you know that Julie and Lesley Ann had a musical role in common? Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. Julie played the lead in 1957 (it was written with her in mind) and Lesley in 1965 (her first lead role). And I agree you should react to The Music Man. Robert was fantastic as Prof. Harold Hill.

This is the first time I've sent one of these... this reaction brought a huge smile to my face. This was an important movie for me... as I said in my other comment there were a lot of other LGBT films that were released year and those films along with this one really helped me get through my own coming out process as a slightly confused 20-year-old. It gave me a theme song for my life (Crazy World) and my favorite quote ever (" Shame is an unhappy emotion invented by pietists"). A bit of a forgotten gem by Blake Edwards is "S.O.B", which is a hilarious satire of Hollywood in the 70's to early 80's. Based on Edwards' own career, it has a star cast, including Julie Andrews doing something that our titular hostess might very much approve of. It's a bit darker in tone than Victor/Victoria, which might be why it didn't hit the box office all that high, but it's still IMO one of Blake Edwards' best movies, right next to his first 3 Pink Panther movies.

Two of my favorite are 'Operation Petticoat', set in WWII, with Cary Grant and Toy Curtis trying to get a pink submarine out of Japanese controlled waters, and 'The Great Race', with Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, and Natalie Wood, in a land race from New York to Paris in the early 20th century. You really should watch "S.O.B." from 1981, again by Blake Edwards and starring Julie Andrews, Robert Preston and Richard Mulligan. It's a hilarious movie!

James Garner was the star of the wildly popular late 1950's, early 1960's TV series "Maverick" about a riverboat and Western gambler. Also star of the wildly popular, long-running 1970's TV series "The Rockford Files" in which he portrayed a gumshoe detective who lived on the beach in a trailer.

Fun fact: Peter Sellers (Inspector Clouseau) was originally going to play Toddy, but after he died Robert Preston took over. Probably all for the best, as funny as Sellers was, Preston nailed the part down, earning an Oscar nomination.

These absolutely fantastic old movies are so rarely picked-up in reaction and it such a shame because there are tons of stunning old movie. Another tip for rare gem - and I guarantee you will be crying from laughter - Arsenic and Old Lace form 1944 wit Cary Grant.

Love the fact that Blake Edwards always use's his stock cast of supporting actors, many of whom are British TV comic stars. But the film is just so clever and Robert Preston and Leslie Anne Warren steal every scene. Leslie almost managed to steal the movie LIFE STINKS from Mel Brooks.

I simply ADORE this movie! It's so much damn fun! Great cast, great tunes, the dialog - OH MY! Everyone is wonderful, including the bit players. The relationship between Toddy & Victoria is wonderful. Norma is AMAZING! All the musical numbers are fantastic, but my favorite favorite FAVORITE is Toddy's version of The Shady Dame From Seville. I end up laughing so hard that I cry...EVERY TIME I WATCH IT! I always want to sing along, but I hate a terrible voice. V/V is one of my all-time, go-to favorite movies. I love that you guys seem to be having as good a time as I do watching it. ♥♥

Robert Preston also starred in The Music Man with Shirley Jones. If you like musicals, it's a classic. Did you notice that the bodyguard was played by Alex Karras, the same actor who played Mongo in Blazing Saddles?

This is definitely my favorite film of Blake Edwards. It combines contemporary themes with sophisticated comedy, farce, and slapstick, all wrapped up with terrific songs beautifully performed. I think that “Crazy World” is Mancini’s best.

Blake Edwards had a perfect hand at the continuous scene play. He did it in the Pink Panther; he did it here as well. He was also the perfect producer for the musical style 60's and 70's movies. This was his last entry of this type in the early 80's. Both my sister and I love this movie to this very day.
We used to watch it back in the VCR days at least once a month. We were just so hooked on it.
For me the ruffian bar scene was probably the most sophisticated yet least wordy version to start a bar fight. I only needed to quote "Milk!" and my sister would break into goggles.😂😂

Delightful reaction to this terrific farce. I think this is Blake Edwards' masterpiece. Nearly everything he directed before, especially the Pink Panther movies, The Great Race, and Breakfast at Tiffany's were setting him up for this piece. And while I loved Julie Andrews as an actress even as a kid, I never fully appreciated the remarkable range of her voice until I was older. What an extraordinary instrument, and so tragic how she lost it due to a botched operation.

Julie Andrews really was "gifted", which she showed in the movie "SOB", another Blake Edwards film. Blake was also Julie's husband. Alex Karas being one of the biggest and toughest football players of all time turned actor, his contemporary ball players found it hilarious and good-heartily gave him a lot of teasing. Always look forward to when y'all do comedy just for Emily's laugh.
