this is why i always do my own installs. i use quality wire, solder/heatshrink/continuity test EVERY connection, zip tie things out of the way so they don’t rub. it really isn’t difficult; time consuming perhaps, but much much faster than trying to hunt down problems later
I even use Tesa tape and twist all my wires before I wrap it in Tesa tape for my radio harness

Videos like this, makes me real happy that I`m OCD about my stereo. I still have my stereo equipment sitting in my room because I refuse to install it with crappy hardware. Good on you for fixing a fuck up you shouldn`t have paid that much for.

@@ThatWhiteRTi worked at take 5 oil change for a while people didnt know their engines hold a certain amount of oil or that it even needed to be changed some people would come in 50k miles after it NEEDED to be changed and expect their car to be ok💀
@@ThatWhiteRT I worked for Ford and had people come in with seized engines at 120,000kms because they didn't know cars need oil changes... "But it came with oil in it..." Not a good idea to run your vehicle for 60k miles on the factory oil
Had people come in who didn't know how to turn their headlights on or didn't know how to brighten the instrument cluster again after turning the dimmer all the way down

You cleaned that up tremendously and Issues like the previous wiring Will account in equipment failure some cases .The old saying goes if you want it done right you have to do it for yourself.
Did you not inspect the truck before purchasing? Popping the hood you would have seen that wiring.
That wiring job was a nightmare and a disaster waiting to happen. Good job fixing it.

Any time I've got a vehicle with aftermarket stereo stuff,even simple stuff like head units,they have always messed something up somewhere. Always double check the previous owners work. Even if the did a good work initially,check it over. Had one that was done really well but over the course of time some of the crimps had backed out. 5-10 minute fix to save the value of the stereo or the value of the vehicle is worth it

JL is overpriced fanboy crap. Mediocre at best. But, when you overspend orders of magnitude for average equipment, you have to convince yourself it’s “great”. Hopefully Garmin actually gets the price to performance ratio right now that they own them.

Those headlights are alpharex pros if you didnt already find out, i have a pair myself that are amber drl. The activation dance is a pretty sweet feature

I would pull all that off the radio order radio harness and / or radio interface and start over using what you can with proper connections.

spend all the money on upgrades and nothing on wire caps and take no time to organize cables for said expensive upgrades. Some people have all the money and no brains. XD Glad you got that car and are in the process of fixing it up.
You did a great job cleaning up all that bullshit. I hate sketchy wiring and its so damn common haha. Only thing I would recommend is to put some silicone sealant on that wire going through the grommet on the firewall. I found out the hard when I ran my 0 gauge though a grommet on firewall that water would leak in and run down the wire and eventually filled up my passenger side footwell with a few inches of water under the carpet.

Good point. I have been making a drip loop and positioning the wire so it is traveling up through the firewall.
My god and I thought the wiring I did was bad. I redid mine with an Atoto a6 and a skar sdr 12 paired with a boss 5k watt amp out back and pioneers in my doors

That kicker stuff is just as good as the jl stuff. I get it, it's not what you where sold but it's not to bad.
i hope you hooked those capacitors back up on those tweeters it filters out all the mids and lows and only allow the highs to come through to the speaker it probably wasn't even the proper cap for that ghetto crossover

Sell the Kickers and get Morel speakers. Only good thing from JL is Amps and Subs. My 5/1/4 Morels from a few years ago were demolishing the best 6 1/2 JL speakers I tested.
Just bought a 2001 tahoe that had previously had a dual gas/propane system in it. It has been removed. I drove it around for 3 weeks just to have a huge misfire show up on the entire bank on the passenger side. Chased sole wores and found out that the guy that had removed it before me, had vut the power wires for the injectors, made them shorter, and then put the fuse box back in place without bolting it down. Causing 4 injector power wires to snap off. People need to just do stuff right. I found this out with ZERO main harmess experience as well, so it confuses me how people can just do that.

this is the reason cars burn down in my neighborhood so much people just trust their mechanic and dont check anything the most mechanics just make it so that it works and dont think about safety
Grab some distribution blocks and you'll only need one power wire
and check that amp, if the gauge is ok. But if that 100 amp fuse holds, i think that gauge is ok. Also, if you want to fall more into the audio rabbithole, "big three"
I've done some questionable wiring in my time but dude, I would've towed that thing back and canceled the check.
Dude had the kickers in there originally then prob upgraded to jl sold the truck and swapped it all back

i have done 3 audio installs in my life, and my first one wasn't even 5% as bad as this :O and it was in a microcar (toyota aygo no room for anything) .. holy shiiiiet
Not going to lie. I have some of those kicker mid tweeters and its pretty good but without an amp they will blow.
"Kicker's not that bad" that's because they're not bad at all. Nothing wrong with Kicker at all. JL is over-rated if anything... that wiring though, was indeed VERY bad. Good job on cleaning up that disaster. There's no way that was a $6k system either... even if it was JL, it would still not add up to anywhere near that for what was present. I have a 150+db install that I did myself, among many others I've done, as reference.

I owned a Saturn LS1 winter beater I wired up drunk in a snowstorm to a set of tower speakers as subs in the trunk. That drunken rushed wiring job was done much better than whatever that rats nest was supposed to be on this truck. That Tundra's wiring screams meth head or tweaker in more ways than one. I'm going to follow this story cause reverse engineering what someone did on a meth bender should be interesting.
