Exactly the reason for the upgrade Greg! The stock rack just doesn't work well for strapping things down. I am looking forward to trying it out on a trip soon!
You know your audience well. You don't need to be able to read to do this task and don't poke yourself with the punch. Looks like a nice accessory. The V-Stom 1050 is still in the running for my next bike. Thanks for the video!
Haha Rob! I guess I do know em! It is a difference maker for carrying a rear bag. Very well made and solid! Also, the 1050 is a great bike! If you do end up getting one, you will enjoy it! Cheers!
@@martyn_g I did buy a Suzuki but not the V-Stom 1050. I ended up with a GSX-S1000GT. I replaced a GSX-S750. I do still have a DR650 for the dirt roads. Thanks for the encouragement.
DOC !!! Just a wonderful install / how to video - Very well done & great intro... I am totally surprised at how in mounts to the existing rack !!! - Would have never thought about that kind of design !!! - That had to make it 10 times easier than tearing the ass end all apart !!! Cheers !!! - This will help a great many people !!!!
Thanks OBI! It is a pretty easy install overall. I do hope it helps someone out there who is looking at upgrading their carrying capability for the 1050. Glad you liked the intro also! Cheers!
Look into adding a support brace to the back of the rack, if not, the two 8mm bolts in front will just snap off. I have a Bumot rear box with their mounting plate, after breaking two sets of bolts, I added a brace connecting the rear of the rack to the pannier's supports and no more breakages.
Good video, DOC650, very well done easy to do upgrade on the V1050. The weight limit is definitely CYOA for the manufactures, overloading throws off the handling, balance and control of the bike. I had been looking at a top plate too when I had the V650 since style was more important than functionality. Take care see you soon.
Hi Dave! Yeah, I figured it was a CYA thing by the manufacturers. The stock rack just is not user friendly for strapping anything on it. Does your T7 have a rack? I am thinking it does. Cheers Brother!
@@doc650adventures I do like mine, it’s not a huge one, but it adds extra storage, and it’s lockable. I can put camera gear in there if I go hike, or eat, etc….
@@doc650adventures No problem! I bought a case from a military surplus store, like a camera case really, but it works well, I just made sure to use plenty of silicone where I drilled holes!!
LOL! Yes Ma'am! They are the rope lights which adorn both the garage and the back deck/ porch. They do seem to add a nice effect when we are sitting out there hanging out. I do need to find some in purple though!
Hi Jody! I am not sure why there are two different positions. They mounting holes are only about an inch apart. I guess it is just for some flexibility in mounting. I do like the rack though!
Great video! The installation process seems straightforward, and the rear rack looks perfect for adding extra storage on the Suzuki V-Strom 1050XT. 🛵🔧 #SuzukiVStrom #MotorcycleRack #AdventureTouring
I have a happy trails rack on mine and I don't know what I would do without it. Makes strapping stuff down so easy

That's cool Doc , I like the fact that it Bolts up over the existing rack , great set up
Thanks Ulli! It is a very straight forward install. Much better than the small stock rack! Cheers Brother!

Great Video Doc, very informative, you are making me look at the V Strom a little closer Cheers Brother,
Thank you Terry! Glad you liked the video! Oh, by the way, You have a sweet Tenere so I would not be worried about a V-Strom LOL!
That's a nice looking rack! Not a bad install either!
Thank you Jay! I love the rack!
