- Netflix documentary. Lyle and Erik murdered their parents Jose and Kitty Menendez in 1989, a case that became a tabloid obsession and one of the most infamous criminal trials in American history. The brothers claimed they were horribly abused by their father. Interest in the case has reached a fever pitch after Netflix’s Ryan Murphy series “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” The new doc takes a deep dive into the cast like never before with new phone interviews with the brothers. “The Menendez Brothers” streams October 7 on Netflix.

Except they are proven liars. I believe they were abused as children, but that doesn't legalize what they did. Money was the driving factor in this murder.
@@leilanewton8453 I have been following this case for a long time. I watched the series. People need to understand that it's a series - not a documentary, for one thing. You know the difference. But somehow I can't conclude 100% what happened there. Maybe I'm wrong, but sometimes it seems to me that they were that moment because they were teenagers who had an idea. It seems to me that the father did them emotionally, probably physically, but emotionally for sure. Then you ask yourself, and if that was the case, why couldn't they leave? They were already adults. Because the image that someone who was so abused did that and then did what they did - went crazy and spent money - does not match at all. At times, I have the impression that they wanted to do that, kill the parents, but then they subsequently used all the other facts as a motive, and that actually was not a motive.... May God forgive me, everything is just somehow confused.

They were adults, free to leave their father's home at any time. Hating your abusive parents is not a green light to murder them as a way to steal their money. Both of them are proven thieves that stole from friends and neighbors as well. Too entitled to work for the lifestyle they wanted.

When Barbara Walters said they murdered their parents for money in the 1996 interview, and Erik said we already had money, and she said "more money", I literally felt sick in the pit of my stomach. It was an utterly derailed, biased and pathetic assertion with no basis in fact.

I do not believe the brothers were spoiled rotten children who harmed for personal gain. I am not saying what they did was right. I am not saying that their method should be the norm. And that this should be the answer to cases of child abused. But I have always felt compassion for them. As someone who is familiar with physical, emotional and psychological abuse, I know the mindset it can take you to. In a way, you’re groomed. Because you think that way of life is normal until one day you realize it’s not. If anyone has seen the movie Tangled, that’s similar to what child abuse feels like. You grow up thinking living isolated and stuff is normal. You “serve” the abuser at the expense of yourself. As you get older you realize something’s not right and then it become consuming and sometimes you run away. Other times you can’t and you’re trapped. Depending on how vicious, smart and calculated the situation/abuser is. From what I’ve heard of this story, Lyle was able to get out but Erik was trapped because of his father’s money and influence.
I hope and pray these guys are freed and I hope that they live PRIVATELY. Humbly. Maybe write a book and do work regarding their situation. And most of all I hope they reunite with each other and get to relearn each other and build a strong bond

It’s messed up what happened all around. For the mother to look the other way allegedly is horrible however to kill her? I can’t support that. They probably would have been let off sooner if she was kept alive and could have been a witness in court. Again just a messed up situation all around. Don’t know what to believe all though I do feel different now and have more sympathy towards them then again I don’t condone how they went about things. They had everything, and just like that one bad decision their life drastically changed innocent or not.

I feel that authorities and parties involved in this case during that time, messed up this case really bad. From the very beginning, that Police didn't perform a gun powder test from Menendez Bros and ended up making conclusions that the brothers were the only people in the crime scene that night. And so what if they have been taped during their Psych sessions? They supposed to review further that the two were psychologically unstable during that sessions and that doesn't hold a strong evidence that they indeed killed their parents. Too many loopholes which means that authorities involved didn't exercise ethical and professional standards on this case.
Their actions immediately after they shot and killed their parents is the true nature of these men. They wanted the estate, the money and freedom from their fathers control and unhindered access to the parents wealth!
It's so popular now for patricide killers to say I was repeatedly raped beaten abused by my father or mother so I killed them. These two were educated and adults who could leave home like so many "POOR KIDS" do when they are adults and they need to flee abuse, but they didn't they stayed close to the money. Did they not go on shopping sprees and partied after they killed their parents, this is their real face and the police got it right about them.

I do think they should be freed after 35 years because I don’t believe in life sentences and while I agreed what their father did to them was horrible beyond reason what doesn’t sit well with me is that they were both adults at the time that they committed the murder it’s not like they were teenagers that would get sent home if they tried to run away they were under no legal obligation to stay they could have moved out and cut ties with their parents and tried to make there own lives better instead of doing what they did and being behind bars. Perhaps it was the way they were raised that might have affected their ability to make rational decisions.

Some even told me to go to psychiatric hospitals because they thought I was overreacting or paranoid. Only reason I didn’t killl my folks was cause I didn’t wanna end up in jail.

She knew they were being molested by her husband and did nothing. She also would force Erik to take off his pants and show her his privates. She even had nude pictures of them. She saw them as competition for her husband. She was far from innocent.
The mother let her husband SA her son for 12 years! Family and friends also corroborated their claims that she abused them as well and repeatedly threatened to poison the family at dinner. She also bought a rifle and threatened to kill the father's mistress (the receipt was shown in court). But yea, pooor mother! smfh
