Can you offer any advice on how to help a 9 month old english black lab better handle fireworks? She's spooked to downright terrified. We try to distract with toys or show that we don't care but that only helps if they are pretty far off. If they are close she finds the most central part of the house and can't move till well after they've stopped. Should note, we're in Italy where there are random fireworks every few days in small towns up and down the mountain. Sometimes right outside our window at 8a 🤷♂.
I really like the emphasis on getting the steps right. Taking time on each element. I tried once just going straight in to new activity, because my pup was so well behaved in other things. Well, as you can predict, it wasn't a complete success like I planned. So I remembered uncle stonies advice of breaking the activity into elements and doing one at a time until it was easy before putting them all together for the final activity. Then it was successful
I love watching your videos. I started watching for the dog training tips but now I watch as much because it's wonderful to know there are decent, kind, family oriented people out there. And I like the accent. I suspect we are very different in our political leanings but I think we could agree to disagree on that. I hope your family is doing well. Keep up the good work.
That’s what I tell my friends, a dog that listens- reacts positively to our commands, only said when needed- is an easy dog that you will love, can bring him anywhere. He/she will have a great life too. Like your channel!
I watched the first 2 minutes and I already like your style. Pups are just like human children in their need to explore and figure out things on their own. They're not on a RECON team in enemy territory. Great job.
Henry wants to participate and work- a very good sign. It takes as much discipline for the handler to not let the eager lab just jump into the bird simulations. Interesting approach.
I clicked this for the huntin' dogs, then my eyeballs were overwhelmed by those surreal sunflowers 🌻. Watched this more than once more. What a great day there. That's the good life. So many good training points. Y'all remember that keyword "suction" so, you set your dog up right. That dummy launcher has me thinking of my cart still not yet ordered through Gun Dog Supply. Love 15:26 the expression on Henry's face. Stonnie is setting him up for future patience in the blind, and honoring while other dogs retrieve.
Like the sunflowers, the morning glory vines killed mine when we went away just a few plants. Which you could be the President. Been saying that for awhile here. ❤
My first Lab, wasn’t good in the Dove field until I discovered e-collars. He would try to retrieve other nearby hunters birds and wouldn’t stay close to me. When Quail hunting came, he would get too far ahead and flush the coveys before I was in range. With the e-collar, I trained out all his bad habits.
Always love watching your videos Stonnie. Wish I would have introduced my pup to the water / kayak earlier but she was a winter pup! She loves the water now and based on this video, I am going to start treating her swimming/fetching in the lake as the biggest reward for her. Just yesterday I made her sit still next to me while I fished off the dock but ultimately didn't let her get in the water. Based on this video, would it be better to do that a few times to hopefully get the message across that were not always getting in the water when its around. Or would it be better to treat it as a reward after she sat still and was polite around us fishing. Edit: I know you like to challenge us, if I had to guess.. It would be better to have her not get in the water and reward with some food work when she was good... and then after a few sessions of that; finally let her swim and fetch in the water? and continue to balance it until we got good behaviors with both and them work on combining both actions in the same session?
I wish I could travel to Kentucky ! I will check out your online classes . Unfortunately not many have the property you have for letting the pup run off energy would solve many dog problems ..I know your answer will be ..get the dog that doesn’t need to run off energy get a very low energy dog or maybe just get a stuffed toy dog ….
Hoping you see this, Stonnie. I'd be interested in any tips you have for identifying and managing a female in her first heat. It's funny I've been training and caring for dogs on and off for about 30 years now and only just now have an unaltered pup I've got to deal with. The standard for spay used to be 3 - 6 months of age, but this dog is an english lab and the breeder as well as my Vet told me to hold off until she's 2 years old due to how the hormones affect her cartilage and joint growth. I figure you see enough dogs to have dealt with this, I've always been in the city where the laws around spay/neuter are pretty strict. I'm also curious where you get those bitchin' slip leads of yours, they look like they're rolled leather? I'm still on the hunt for the perfect leash, seems like I'll come by one I really like then it'll get discontinued and I'm out of luck a few years later! If you've already got videos on dealing with puppy puberty it's not something I've come across. Might be worth throwing one out there! We always joke around that the only thing two dog trainers will agree on is what the third is doing wrong, but your wisdom is really second to none on this platform. Love to learn and hear your philosophy and input on training. Thanks!

What gorgeous scenery in this video, such a joy to watch. Thank you!
I clicked for pups being good pups outdoors.
I got what I clicked for ✅
Those sunflowers are looking good!!!
My buddy is 79 years old and still putting in work!
This late in the summer? I'm already eating seeds. I thought they would be finished by now in Kentucky.

Brilliant advice as always, I’m going to go out right now and practice this. Also I just love No Name, his persistence with the stick is everything ❤😂
Your sunflower fields are beautiful! Enjoyed seeing them as I watched this video. Little Henry is doing so well!
That’s my buddy, Charlie’s field. He is 79 years old and still putting in work!
Oh, cool!

Spectacular setting for a video. Startling beautiful!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I’m here for the Sunflowers 🌻🌻

Oh My God, Bunson! I want Bunsen. Very cute how Noname wants you to throw that big stick
Lookity all 'dem GOOD dogs! Those puppies shadowing Uncle Stonnie while ol' No Name shows 'em how to play the game.
Love the video helped out alot! Got a 3 month old lab. I'm trying to train for the field

I love dogs and tractors!
We love seeing Bunson! I agree the best labs are Black! We have transitioned to a black cocker after some wonderful labs.

The little spaniel needs to come to my place!.. lol
His name is great! Bunsen! Like a bunsen burner ( laboratory stuff). No idea how his name was inspired.

🇮🇪 brilliant video sharing very good
Thank you!
I think you and Joel Beckmann would make a great collab video or podcast!
Noname wants to play so bad lol.

What brand of leash do you like?
Hoping you see this, Stonnie.

Didn't you have another "Henry" back when No Name was a puppy? The original mentor dog? If so, is he still around?
Is Henry a purebred lab or a mix? Just curious.
Did you ask that because of his ear set?
Those ears are starting to get pretty prevalent in some field lines.
Looks to me like a 100% American Field Lab. They can go all day retrieving. They're like Thoroughbreds if we compare dogs and horses.
@@StonnieDennis Exactly! I'm glad you mention it. I did notice a different, maybe higher, more forward, ear set than I'm used to seeing.
GSP owners like me note that the GSP is ALWAYS the dog on the outside of the group and in front. Down range dogs...
I think it's a good idea to promote Gun Safety whenever a firearm is in a video. I just want to see you make a Gun Safety Ad.
Or don't shoot yourself. I'm glad we got that out of the way
True. He's such a great educator. It would be nice to learn about dogs and guns.
We’re watching for dogs, not gun safety lectures
