What I love about this version is in the middle interlude you can hear a separate Tabla playing, it’s actually Danny Carey’s tabla mentor. Around the mid 90s before Lateralus Danny went to India to train with Aloke Dutta. He is famous in India for his tabla playing. He thought Danny his meditative drum playing. This recording is the only time they played together live. Teacher and Student!
Somebody on Polo's channel tried to chop Danny up to just an old white guy with drumsticks without African or Indo-beats. The rest of the world disagreed. Danny spent his time learning and deserves every ounce of credit we can give him. As possibly the best and last living human drummer we all know, he should be protected at all costs.
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it 100 times. My favorite Tool song is the one I’m listening to at that moment. How am I supposed to pick a favorite song, when I can’t even pick a favorite version of this song.
I also am biased, I don't think No Quarter as a song can be bested by the alt cut of the performance from Led Zeppelin's Song Remains the Same. Half that performance stinks, but No Quarter, Rain Song & Since I've been Loving You are masterpieces. with You Lied I even like the Peach version (original) from Justin Chancellor's first band. So underrated killer cover > killer cover from a band that already did it perfectly. It is what it is, ya dig?
Don't feel bad about a song making you tear up. That's the whole point of listening. I cry every time I listen to Wings for Marie. And I'll feel bad when I don't anymore.
To remix is to take a recording and tweak it / add or remove tracks.... this is a complete reimagining / recomposition of a masterpiece to create something completely new and soul crushing. Anyone can remix a song... this is what legends do.
This Salival version of Pushit is to me now what Descending was when I first learned of Tool less than a year ago. My admiration of the band grows - over and over again. Very exciting!
I love how the Tool journey started off . started with “ That singer this or that” or man that guitar player and drummer .. 6 reviews later and your on a first name basis with them..” Maynard this or Adam that and Here comes Danny!” Hahahaha….. The members of Tool are absolute masters at their crafts and it’s amazing that they all found each other to entertain us all!
Imagine going out there every other night doing this song during this album's tour. Over and over every night, knowing everyone - EVERYONE - is waiting for that exact moment, that last section. Maynard is amazing for giving it his best every single time. What a legend.
@POLO REACTS, don't worry about the pausing.. We tool fans love to hear what you're thinking and feeling... A lot of us have been down that road for many years and it's very interesting to watch a relative newcomer to Tool react to their music. It's enjoyable to see.
@POLO REACTS my word for you to learn and ponder is SYNERGY. It's kind of difficult to explain the meaning, and the definition doesn't help much.! But as a member of an army, and one of your fans... when this truely happens amongst us, it's one of thee purest, best feelings I can experience!
Everyone in UK just got tickets to Puscifer Manchester!! MJK for £38, saw Tool 3 times last tour, cost me a small fortune. Love Puscifer since Money Shot, so excited!! @Polo See if Puscifer is playing near you, would be an amazing first gig. X
Hey Polo. I have been enjoying your Tool reactions and followed you on your journey. I'm not sure if anyone has told you yet, but Maynard lyrics are the last piece of the puzzle. One of the reasons Tool albums take so long is the meticulous nature in which Adam, Danny and Justin write songs. They are perfectionists and it shows. Once the music is done, they send it to Maynard and he adds his lyrics afterwards. Pretty interesting as I don't know of any other bands that work that way. Keep up the good work my friend.
@chris schiefen not really dude. Most of the time, the frontman/woman is present while the bamdmates are running through whatever their creative process Is. And he's also working through the lyrics. Sometimes in real time. They call them jam sessions and thousands of peices od music has been created because of them
This is definitely the best live version of this song. No doubt sound quality is great and Maynards voice at the very end. Holy cow talk about goosebumps very powerful.
The original I see as the victim striking back trying to survive, to carve out a space for itself. This one I see as the victim recognizing they have become the perpetrator, seeing the cycle and lamenting the loss in participating. In the pushing back there's always something lost. Understanding even though it was wrong, it was done with love, just fallible human love. It's haunting and beautiful and I think reflects Maynard's mindset through maturity and becoming a more whole human being.
Long-time Tool fan here, and this is also my favorite version of the song, compared with the studio version/other lives. That crescendo man... Just top-tier chill-inducing vocals and instrumentation. Also, those drums really did it for me too. Love that tribal aesthetic. And the pauses were no problem for me. You do rewinds, thankfully, so I'm happy. It's hard to find that perfect balance with TH-cam and progressive music, but I think you've got the most reasonable amount of pauses possible. Also, most of us (reasonable people) know you'll listen to it on your own time afterward and enjoy that full, uninterrupted experience. And I'm just happy Tool is getting some more love/exposure. 😁
lunatics for pressuring this man to react to the live Maine version & live Salival version. They're the same thing just a difference in quality. But in calling it out, I FKIN love it all the same. Just have so much baggage associated with this song, envy Tool cherries that connect.
I’ve been listening to TooL for over 25 years, and I’m completely with you on this version of pushit. In my opinion this is better than the studio version it’s not even a comparison. Everything about this song is perfection. Danny Carey kills it, bass guitar, lead guitar and of course the vocals are next level. Thanks for the reaction video. 👍🏼👍🏼
Dude need to check out the song Passenger by The Deftones featuring Maynard James Keenan. First it's an amazing song I think you'll love and it's a great introduction to another amazing band with a unique sound and amazing drums.
My daughter took me to see tool at the gorge. This is the only band that can being tears to my eyes. Changed my life, maybe listen to jambi or disposition.
@17:55 and thereafter we are listening to three musicians at their pinnacle, IMO. It’s indescribable. Lest we forget Maynard take it to 11+ to close it out. FAHKIN SICK.
Easily amongst their best. This one has such an overwhelming physical effect on me. I dove deeply into it once when I was at my darkest place and it felt like going 12 rounds with Tyson: exhausting and brutal. Though it was helpful because I heard in it what I was feeling and knew I wasn’t alone It’s the rawest song I’ve ever heard. It just cuts to your core and shows zero mercy. “Remember I’ll always love you, as I claw your fucking throat away!” 😤
Never upset at your pausing. I like it since you rewind a little each time you pause...which means more Tool reaction. Really appreciated this one! My favorite as well.
If your doing salival and want a recommendation I would suggest "Third Eye" from that album. It's my favorite tool song. Honestly haven't even listened to the album version of that song since I heard it.
Thank You Polo! I have seen Tool 4 X and have been HUGE fan since 90s. As you hear and have commented, the talent is top tier. This song and version is No. 1 for me.
I got into Tool back when Undertow came out. When I heard this version of Push It I actually shed a tear cause it took me back to a messed up time in my life. Love it .
I think you need the full context of the original recording to truly appreciate this version. This track has always been one of my absolute favs from tool...great takes/reactions as always!
If you can in anyway relate to this song and do just what he says at the beginning, throw on some solid headphones, crank to eleven, all I can tell you is, Wow. They reach right into your soul man it's intense.
Few requests: No Quarter (cover of a Led Zeppelin song and it's hard to cover a zeppelin song), Right In Two (just an amazing song), and maybe Schism which is their most "popular" song and the song most average people like. KEEP UP THE GREAT REACTIONS I LOVE THEM
Nah, you're right. This is the best version of this track. This comes in a close second as my favorite Tool song right after Right in Two and Descending a close third. Ironically, Descending will climb as I age.
One of my favorites. When they came through Houston last year this was on the set list(studio version). It was the pinnacle of the show for me. Badass tune.

I’m irrationally excited for this. The Salival version of Pushit is one of the best pieces of music I think I’ve ever heard.
Agree!
Tool Army!!!
Amen 🙏
Same
It’s rational. We all understand ❤
What I love about this version is in the middle interlude you can hear a separate Tabla playing, it’s actually Danny Carey’s tabla mentor. Also the other guitar that’s strumming is Maynard playing the Sitar, a few times he actually plays an instrument live.
Thanks for the info!
😌that just makes it so much cooler….
The Salival version of Pushit is a masterpiece.
As is the original
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it 100 times. My favorite Tool song is the one I’m listening to at that moment. How am I supposed to pick a favorite song, when I can’t even pick a favorite version of this song.
If your going to do this version of Pushit it also mandatory to do their cover of No Quarter from the same live album.
no You Lied? Always thought that was severely underrated & should have made it as a bonus on Lateralus or at least 10,000 🤷♂️
@@Gibsoncustom89 my god it's killer
I also am biased, I don't think No Quarter as a song can be bested by the alt cut of the performance from Led Zeppelin's Song Remains the Same. Half that performance stinks, but No Quarter, Rain Song & Since I've been Loving You are masterpieces.

This
Yep, it's a rule.
Don't feel bad about a song making you tear up. That's the whole point of listening.
I cry every time I listen to Wings for Marie. And I'll feel bad when I don't anymore.
One of the most beautiful live recordings ever done.
To remix is to take a recording and tweak it / add or remove tracks.... this is a complete reimagining / recomposition of a masterpiece to create something completely new and soul crushing. Anyone can remix a song... this is what legends do.
True dat, but with that being said, Puscifer has a few albums of just remixes.
Let us all not forget...THIS IS LIVE !! Masterpiece composition. You should also check out the rest of this album, it's full of gold!
When I saw the Lateralus tour in 2001 I was blessed to hear this version and I was blown away as a young teenager
This Salival version of Pushit is to me now what Descending was when I first learned of Tool less than a year ago. My admiration of the band grows - over and over again. Very exciting!
Thank you, and welcome to the Tool Army 🙂
We got you Polo. Come on in. One breath-one word.
I believe this song is what created the term vibe.
This is my favourite composition/song/piece period.
"I can hear the drums doing a triangle"
Love it.
One beautiful song
I remember the first time I heard this version of Pushit. A friend of mine at work gave me a copy of Salival. I played the song on repeat for hours.
Yes. All of that. This Live recording is incredible.
Just my opinion but tool are the best band ever. No bad songs no bad albums. Even live they sound amazing.
I would say most of us here agree with you!
When you know their philosophy they are even better
It’s ok to have an opinion. Especially one so absolutely correct!
It is nothing short of amazing how this song still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck every single time I hear it, so many years later.
I was in the audience when they recorded this! Portland, OR...Memorial Coliseum...circa 1990something...crazy show
I love how the Tool journey started off . started with “ That singer this or that” or man that guitar player and drummer ..
6 reviews later and your on a first name basis with them..” Maynard this or Adam that and Here comes Danny!”
Hahahaha…..
The members of Tool are absolute masters at their crafts and it’s amazing that they all found each other to entertain us all!

It's serendipitous that you posted this the day after I heard it for the first time. I thought of you when I heard this. The whole record is amazing.
I learned a new word today
@@poloreacts27 Ever seen the meme pic with Cusak holding a boombox over his head? Serendipity is the movie haha
@POLO REACTS my word for you to learn and ponder is
SYNERGY.
It's kind of difficult to explain the meaning, and the definition doesn't help much.! But as a member of an army, and one of your fans... when this truely happens amongst us, it's one of thee purest, best feelings I can experience!
This song, this exact version, is definitely one of the top 5 Tool songs of all time without a doubt.
I've been a TOOL fan for a long time and this is one of my favorites. I still have the Salival VHS tape / CD somewhere.
Emotional experience need always 😢 to be shared
This song and version is one of the greatest things that exists in life.
Best live version of music out there. Tool topped their self with this one. It only made it better to hear it live. Made me a fan for life!
Are you a new fan to Tool?

So glad you got to hear this version amazing I dig it!
This song is spiritual for me. My all time favorite TOOL track.
Agreed - this is the best version!
I WAS AT THIS CONCERT IN SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH!!! YAY!
You don’t annoy us at all. We love your reactions 🤟
❤yes we love your on the Tool experience as well the great journey
Your review was spot on with describing the talent of this band.
You MUST see this band period!!

Almost every band with a singular lyricist/singer works this way.

We all cried. Saw that live a couple of years after his death. Eric Clapton is a true professional and got though it better than the crowd did. So sad
This is definitely the best live version of this song. No doubt sound quality is great and Maynards voice at the very end. Holy cow talk about goosebumps very powerful.

Great reaction video- I love Tool and this Salival album is 🔥....NEW SUB
thank you
@ 16:36 the greatest live jam session in history starts.
My daughter took me to see tool at the gorge. This is the only band that can being tears to my eyes. Changed my life, maybe listen to jambi or disposition.
No matter how many times I listen to this version or the original I can't choose a favorite between them.
Same
The album version will always be special to me, but this version is perfection. Kinda like the opiate and opiate2
I saw them play this version in Portland Maine September 2001 and it still gets me in the end. Crushing
It is the superior version, I can't imagine any fan disagrees. Masterpiece.
It's only a couple of years older. The difference is this was recorded by the band and put out as an album. The other one was just a home video.
A good follow up would be THIRD EYE, studio version and then live from this album.
Agreed
You HAVE to see them live this year.
I freaking hope they tour again this year
Finally someone that’s in the same page. Listen to Reflection……

“Remember I’ll always love you, as I claw your fucking throat away!” 😤
Love that you said their names because it is important to remember this sound is being created by a 4 pc band live.
Tru' 'Dat!
The only part about Third Eye on Salival that I dislike is that they removed Bill Hicks from the beginning. But the song... Literally epic!
I think you should give it a listen, it interesting to feel the difference.
One of their deepest songs for sure
deftones PASSENGER featuring maynard is hypnotically good as well. highly recommend to get some maynard in with another band.
Love it .
This version will exorcise your demons.
Hauntingly beautiful can't wait for your reaction on this masterpiece 🌀... Polo's stank face I'm a happy camper
I think you need the full context of the original recording to truly appreciate this version. This track has always been one of my absolute favs from tool...great takes/reactions as always!
There are two parts of your life. The part before you’ve heard this version of the song, and the part after.
Salival - Third Eye is just as good!
Polo, this was fire. Love the reaction! Salival is great, definitely check out No Quarter and You Lied which is a Peach cover, Justin’s former band
YES
If you can in anyway relate to this song and do just what he says at the beginning, throw on some solid headphones, crank to eleven, all I can tell you is, Wow. They reach right into your soul man it's intense.
So beautiful and haunting
This whole release, “Salival” is gold. Third eye, you lied, no quarter, all great music man!
Shoutout Maynard's Dick! 🙃
It's hard to comprehend that the song at the beginning is the same as at the end. The progression is unmatched, greatest band of all time.
...is he ready for Salival's Third Eye yet?...
Salival is epic start to finish. It's what really got me into T00L
Don't fret the pauses. Back in 94 when I first heard Tool my words were " wait, what was that, rewind that, I need to hear that again"
We understand.
Thank you for the reaction to a pure masterpiece!!! I get goosebumps every time.
The tabla drums were played by Master Aloke Dutta
My favourite version of Pushit... Has everything!
There is no love in FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome.
I’ve never paid any attention to Pushit. This is a top song!!! WOW!
Ironically, Descending will climb as I age.
... Also, this isn't a remix. It's a studio production of a live performance
One of my favorites. When they came through Houston last year this was on the set list(studio version). It was the pinnacle of the show for me. Badass tune.
Yeah same, pretty much teared up when they played Pushit on the Pneuma tour.
Put yourself in a place that is not only comfortable but also vulnerable... And we'll see you on the other side
Loved watching your journey with TOOL its been awesome to watch! I can't wait till you do Jambi!
Should checkout tool eulogy. I think you would really appreciate this one. Instrumentals are great lyrically awesome. You won't be disappointed
Ok... still waiting for someone to recommend Third Eye from the 1996 Glass House live session
I love this channel. I know I'm late but there are a couple things about this track that are particularly special. The whole intro is built around the tiniest abstract part of the original song. Just before "never want to see that place again" is a tiny guitar lick that built the entire version of this song. No surprise as this is (pre- fear inoculum) is Adam Jones's pride and joy. ANOTHER aspect is during this performance, they featured Danny Carey's tabla instructor ALOKA DUTTA so when the bridge starts and you hear extra percussion, that is Aloka standing in with Danny to hit that atmosphere.
Remember when nobody thought Heath Ledger could duplicate Jack Nicholson’s “The Joker”? Well similar to how that turned out, Maynard’s other band “A Perfect Circle”, they did a cover of John Lennon’s “imagine”. Trust me, Maynard is Heath Ledger! Who does a cover betting than the original! Let alone THAT song! Check it out.
The intro and verse riff is taken from a small fill riff in the original and restructured to form a new song. Talent.
