    Thanks for posting this video. One thing if I wanted to add, the right way to pull the ribbon cable is grab both end side of the black plug tabs, slightly pull out to lose the ribbon cable (do not force it to much) then it will come out safely.

    Oh my gosh. This was so easy and worked! I was looking a a huge professional repair bill to replace the panel or even buying a new stove but I took a chance and it was totally fixed in 10 minutes. P.S. I'm a 76 year old woman. If I can do, anyone can! Thank you so much!

    Thank you! This worked. We paid a workman to remove the panel (the buttons in the middle column were not working on both right and left hand side of the panel Kenmore Elite electric oven). Meanwhile after looking everywhere for a replacement, we finally ordered the entire panel on ebay ($300, after contacting many repair places where we were told that the panel can't be repaired). Long story short the ebay panel turned out not to be an exact match. I figured I give your method a try. Hubby and myself put the panel back in and voila! All the buttons are working again! Ebay purchase was returned. Thank you again for teaching me how to save favorite appliance 😊 hopefully good things will happen to you in life.

    Thank you. I tried the eraser and it worked for a bit and then stopped. I ordered a new touchpad and watched your video. Thank you for your instructions. It took me several attempts, I was so excited to try it I forgot to put the ribbon back. This time partially. Oh man. I then read to make sure the ribbon is in completely and that was it. 💃🏻💃🏻what a great feeling!! I am 62 and I felt so accomplished 😅.

    This worked for me! Got nervous because when I put it back together after cleaning the contacts no buttons were working. So I thought I broke it totally and made it worse than before. But I reconnected the ribbon and now all buttons work! Saved me some much needed cash. Thanks!

    God bless you! It took me less than 3 minutes to fix my Samsung NX58H5600S partially unresponsive touchpad. Only very few controls worked (convection roast, CLEAR, pizza). No clock, no bake, no broil, no number keys. The eraser got dirty very quickly. Keep upthe fantastic advices.

    Thank you so much for this tip. My oven panel has been struggling. Once I turned the oven on and heated my oven, the panel would not respond when I tried to press the buttons to change the temperature or use other settings. It would only start working again when the oven was completely cooled. Even though I bake a lot, and truly need to upgrade my oven, I wanted to wait for another year before I make that purchase. I definitely did not want to call a repair person and spend money on replacing the control board when I really want a new oven. So I thought I would try your tip. As of right now, your tip has fixed this problem. thank you!

  • @mjbswenson
    @mjbswenson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Worked great! The longest part for me was realizing that the ribbon cable pulls out and the black assembly just clamps down on it. I was expecting pin connectors.
    Once I figured that out (5 minutes) everything was easy. Added a little dielectric grease as a preventative measure.

    Excellent video Scott, thank you very much! I googled the electrical cleaner and it's basically isopropyl alcohol so instead of using an eraser I used a fine Mist sprayer with 91% isopropyl alcohol. after removing the ribbon cable I sprayed a small amount (twice)with a paper towel underneath it to catch any drips.
    Worked like a charm! Again thank you for the excellent video,no music, no annoying chitter-chatter,straight to the point!😁👍

  • @aurodenver
    @aurodenver 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Thank you so much for this video. The most difficult part was the access to the damn control board. I had to partially remove the whole cabinet involving the oven and microwave. Finding the hidden screws when there is no instruction for a particular model is the hardest part. Anyway, I got the idea where to look for after watching several different videos. One last note, the ribbon cable has two ends, cleaning the big end that goes on the PCB didn't work but the culprit was the other smaller end of the cable. Thanks again for the idea what could go wrong.

  • @jerrysalemi8519
    @jerrysalemi8519 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Scott, thanks so much! I followed your advice and it worked for about 5 days. I had to repeat the process 3 more times over the next month. I may have found root cause. On the last try I put a piece of Scotch tape over the top of the touch screen and the brushed stainless panel over it. My thought is over the years pushing the screen buttons created a slight gap between the top of the touch screen and metal frame. This allowed steam from cooking to seep through and short out circuit points. Going on 2 weeks plus and no error code! Tape over the screen/frame looks crummy. Maybe I'll remove it and caulk with a thin line if window glaze?

    This worked on a GE profile wall oven, Perfectly. And it worked Friday night at 9:00pm when the service charge would have been ridiculous. Three screws for me and I splurged on two pencil erasers that were stuck in the drawer. Dinner was a little late but I slept healthy, wealthy and wise. Thanks

    Thank You!! You have saved me hundreds! I replaced my own board on my Samsung Gas Range Model# NX58J5600SG/AA with a part from Sears Part# DE92-02588J which cost about $180 with shipping. The Ribbon Cable you spoke of was the problem with ours because I did not know that there was a slide out piece on the piece that connects to the board. This allows the ribbon cable to dislodge from the board. None of the TH-cam videos I watched mentioned this but yours! The range had no function on the keypad until I properly installed the ribbon cable. I have clock function, timer and cook timer working. Although I still have no beeping of the timers etc?! I am going to try and reinsert the cable one more time before I button her up. Thanks again!!

    Thanks for your efforts to share this solution! I followed all your instructions and did repeated tests and just didn't have any satisfactory results. I was almost resigned to trashing the range but was really bummed as I just spent over a hundred bucks replacing the carbon broiler element. I looked into maybe replacing the control board but that would cost me north of $400. Grrrrr! I decided to have another look at the ribbon and saw the indents where the socket pins made contact. It was then I decided to go for broke. With a sharp pair of scissors I cut about 3/32nds (2mm) off the end of the tape making sure to keep square.I Inserted the ribbon and locked it down. Time to flip the breaker and test. Yay! OMG so happy I don't have to retire this appliance as it is still in such good condition overall. Hope someone can use this info to keep their appliance from being scrapped. Cheers to all the determined fixers out there! 5:26

    The manufacturer of my oven (oster) had applied some sort of glue along the edge of the ribbon and the plastic connector. I carefully chipped it away with a razor blade and pulled the ribbon, sure enough about half of the pins had corrosion. Going to get some electronic parts cleaner today. Thanks for the video!

    Listen Scott... it's people like you and videos like this that bring A LOT of positivity to the 21st century. As everyone knows, we live in an age when your lucky if an appliance last more than 3 years. Whether it's Planned Obsolescence or not, most appliances are simply not built to last. Our Samsung convection range is only 3 years old. Already had to replace the convection motor (which thank goodness someone posted a TH-cam vid that directs you on how to order the motor off Amazon and install it yourself!!)...and today...2 days before the Thanksgiving turkey goes in the oven...the control panel craps out. Did exactly what you said and BAM!!! Huge brownie points with the wife buddy (big thanks :). Had quite a difficult time dislodging the ribbon... so like you advised, use a flat head screw driver and VERY carefully and slowly alternate prying out the top & bottom tips of the plastic ribbon base connector thingy. I used Isopropyl Alcohol on a q-tip...worked perfect !! Thanks again.

    Really appreciate the video. I just can’t tell what part of that black piece is the latch for the ribbon cable. I’m not sure what part to pull up on to release it.

    Thanks, great tip & informative video. Would it work in my case - I have a LG electric range & last weekend when I pressed the button for the rear small (single element) cooktop, it would also turn on the dual element cooktop in front. And I am not able to turn it off unless I turn off the small cooktop. Much appreciated for your advice.

      You might need to replace the touch pad . They’re pretty cheap.

      The LG tech tells me likely I need to change the board & as it will cost about $450, I may as well wait a bit until something else happens for me to justify replacing it with a new range.
