The fact that John Candy was so invested in this show gives it a personal charm that I think is really lacking in stuff today. This wasn’t something like Hammer Man where M.C. Hammer was basically doing a kid’s show to make money, this feel’s like Candy wanting to be the Uncle Buck to the world we all imagined him to be. God, I miss him.

The title theme is a duet between John Candy and Harry Nilsson (two stars we sadly both lost in 1994 only a couple months separate). A shame Candy didn't live longer to bless us with more animated roles.

    • @MrAdrenaline1982
      @MrAdrenaline1982 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

John had a couple of animated roles that were never released. One was a turkey named Redfeather in Disney's Pocahontas which ended up being cut both due to John's death and a decision to make all of the animal characters mute.
Candy also did voice work for a lead role in the unreleased animated film "The Magic 7".

I lived this show growing up... I loved John Candy and all of his movies that I saw as a kid. You may have been one of the first celebrities that I felt deeply saddened when he passed away. I remember having a dream as a kid that I saw him somewhere and gave him a hug, telling him that, "you died where i come from"

I don't remember much of this show but I do remember the special with the Saved By The Bell kids introducing new Saturday programs and of course the theme song. I haven't heard it in years and it just brought the nostalgia right back.

Watched it weekly 1988-1990 or so...So weird at how it hits peak nostalgia and yet I remember almost nothing about it other than John himself. Looking back on it, it's surprising how earnest it is, especially for the mass-marketing era it was released during. RIP John.

For Forgotten Failures can you talk about the horrible 2016 MAD TV revival attempt? Also for Almost Cult Classics can you make a video on the Francis The Talking Mule film series? It was like Mister Ed before Mister Ed was a thing and apparently was a big deal back in the day but it´s mostly forgotten nowadays.

The world lost a wonderful, sweet, kind, caring man when John Candy passed ..
and just so people know it was sleep apnea that caused his death.
many people do not take sleep apnean seriously. it is a very serious life threatening condition.
John's final act was cooking a big pasta dinner for all the cast and crew of the movie he was working on with them.. a kind and sweet man till then end..
RIP John .. I will never forget the many years of entertainment and happiness you brought me ..

I watched this every Saturday morning as a kid. It was one of the earlier cartoons in the morning. My brother and I knew we’d get to see all of our favorite shows, if we were early enough to see Camp Candy, because Captain N came on soon after, if I remember right.
I always assumed the bear in the cartoon was the Bald Headed Bear from American Outdoors, but he’d finally grown his hair back.
Man...the 80’s and 90’s really were the best for cartoons. I STILL, to this day, sing the song sung when channels were announcing they were breaking for commercial, as dumb as that sounds. It’s crazy how this stuff was seared into our brains.
One cartoon I miss that no one seems to remember is Foofur. I even bought a 30+ year old licensed stuffed Foofur for my daughter and it’s one of her favorite toys, which gives me the warm and fuzzies :D

I grew up watching Camp Candy every Saturday Morning. I'd watch it at my Grandparents house as they made me breakfast, I'd watch the show through static on an old TV, and right afterwards came Captain N.
Ed Grimley, Gravedale High, and Camp Candy were all really cool shows, and my uncle actually bought a talking Ed Grimley doll for me this year. He knew I wanted one as a kid, and when I brought up the memory, he sought it out for me.
