Just bought my dad an Xs max for Christmas. He’s just this senior who only got his first smart phone last year. Some cheap zte he got for free for signing a budget plan. I’m hoping he can get use of the xs max for a few years before support is gone
If you’re still under warranty apple will send you a 14 Plus 500GB because they no longer have parts or device replacements for it. That’s what they’re doing for me right now because I’ve had since launch and my phone gets so hot doing basic stuff and battery dies in under an hour. I’m using my mom’s XS Max which got replaced a few years ago and the difference is night and day with performance and battery life because her battery health was at 97% compared to my 77%. Im using her’s until mine replacement comes in the mail since I bought hers along with mine but she upgraded to the 15 pro max last year.
No it does! Y'all come online and act like these phones aren't ageing I use and iPhone Xs Max and I can tell y'all reading this for sure that the story is totally different from what he's saying, Especially when you update to the latest iOS (iOS 18.1) That update specifically took a toll on my device and I've been using this phone since 2022 that's two years ago, I updated from iOS 15 to 16 no issue, 16-17 no groundbreaking issue but 17 -18??? My phone heats up like helllll, and when it does that guess what?, It lags soo bad it becomes totally unusable Ordinary day to day apps like TH-cam and telegram would make my phone crumble to it knees especially when using it indoor with a neutral room temperature. Bro I literally use to play COD on this device and now it's practically impossible so coming online and seeing y'all just act normal is soo crazyyy fr
I literally use the iPhone XS 256Gb in Gold on iOS 18.1, I’ve been using it for 4yrs now. It’s a good phone, nice photos, nice oled display, love the size and nice performance. But the problems I’ve got with the phone is the overheating and battery life is not too good.
In Brazil a lot of older iPhone's are still used much. From the 8 to the newer ones. My grandma still uses a iPhone 6s, and still works perfectly. I use an iPhone 11, and the only thing that bothers me is the screen, that's an LCD. But as long as a device can run WhatsApp, brazillians can use it.
The only issue with using older phones is the battery because they deteriorate after a while. But if you get a battery replacement, you can easily get a few mores years out of the phone.
some things i noticed, probably just over the internet, are that a lot of people will make u feel like sh*t and make u feel like ur missing out if u have an older iphone. But the reality is, iphones are usually still usable and functional after 5+ years. A lot of the tedious and minuscule upgrades like camera whatver or the 6969 megabit processor or something that the older iphones lack aren't even noticeable especially if u only use ur phone for minor things.
The iPhone 11 series is currently the most used iPhone in the US and that’s 5 years old. Must be Android users making fun of people using older phones.
In most of the conditions, side by side, 14PM and 11PM have almost the same results. Photo, video, low light, night, indorr, outdoor... you name it. All that "camera upgrades" are pure marketing stuff, if you have Iphone that can run latest iOS - you're fine.

My first iPhone was an iPhone 8 and it was so good, even though the battery was straight 💩 it was my go to to plug in and play Minecraft for like 3 hours straight, then I had the iPhone 10 R, amazing display back then, did the same, then the iPhone 16, and bro. The only difference from an 8 and 16, 8 years later, is everything is better by 20x and the overall gaming performance is TOP TIER like ZERO LAG, all people care about and test are triple A games but when u play smth like Roblox and Minecraft online, its smooth as hell and nobody brings that up
I recently upgraded from the iPhone 11 to the iPhone 15 Pro. I'm not going to lie; I regret the upgrade. It's definitely quicker. I enjoy the 120Hz screen, stand-by mode, the always-on screen, and the upgrade to 5G. It makes very little difference in my day-to-day, and I would have rather saved the $900 and kept my 11. Plus it was red; I miss my red phone.
the X series phones are still quite phenomenal! I was using my XR until this week, after which I switched to a 13 mini. The only reason I switched was because the screen got damaged from a fall and I decided it wasn't worth replacing it, otherwise I was still planning to use it for a year more. I already did a battery replacement for it a year back.
I’ve been using this silver phone since it launched in 2018. Battery solid in 85% health from new!Never replaced! The stainless steel pretty good with regularly polished it like new again. What I love about this phone is pretty sleek at the back and the camera is so good and natural compared with current iphones. Hopefully Apple still support this phone until next year lol.😊
He’ll, I’ve used the iPhone 8 for 2 years, a year ago, & the only main drawbacks were battery life & internet speed, other than those 2 points, it feels smooth, stable, & modern! A few more points; the cameras are still surprisingly usable & videography beat my Pixel 4 XL. The iOS software, I found, is much better than Android. Fingerprint scanner blew stones but I have sweaty fingers so maybe that’s why, I loved the face unlock from the 4 XL. It is still fast in 2024 for light to medium gaming!
It’s so dope to see how good this phone is running. I just upgraded from the 11 just so my son could have a phone. And I got the 15 pro max. But I didn’t need to upgrade at all.
Great video brother! In 2018, I upgraded from my Samsung S8 to an XS Gold. Despite testing the S8, It just felt wrong & felt it lacked something. The XS was just perfect for me, everything from design, weight, and overall feel were superior. I still prefer it today. Currently, I use an 14 Pro, but I’ve recently reunited with my XS (it is still in great condition, except for the battery). I use it as my work phone and sometimes switch to it for everyday web browsing or listening to podcasts. Picking it up today without a case gives of a great pleasuring feeling. It’s a gem! Recently, I visited an Apple store and picked up the 16 Pro from the display table. I like the MacBook-inspired edges; however, it just felt like a weightless toy .

the more natural shallow depth of field due to the larger sensor size, but also the stabilisation in the newer iPhones is where i notice the biggest differences
Why is no one talking about the fact that Pixel 9 scored almost similar benchmark score as iPhone XS! It also took almost the same time to finish Adobe Lightroom. How is a 2024 android flagship that costs 1000$ has similarly performing chipset as a 7 year old iPhone? iPhone 16 became a laughing stock in the industry for having 60Hz, but Pixel 9 gets a free pass?
Tried using the first SE for a week and it was not a bad experience. The apps that I use still works although you will notice you are using an old phone because of the camera. It is totally unusable at night (there's flash but it cannot illuminate longer distances).
I’ve been using the XS up until 2 months ago. The price for the battery replacement made me upgrade. Other than that the phone was fully functional for my use case.
I'm not even an iphone guy tbh, but your interaction with this is so good. I know a lot of people who still use the X/Xs/Xsmax. And the things you complained about are all the same, but they still love the camera tho. If I'd ever get an iphone in the next year or 2 then I'd definitely be getting an older iPhone maybe the iphone 12/13. And yeah the face imitation from your daughter there at the end is so true haha.
fun fact i had been using the Iphone XS 64 gigs originally bought in 2019 and replaced the battery this year June and trust me with IOS 18 and 100% battery health it just runs smoothly but unfortunately I had an accident in August, this is when I am surprised to see my XS survive but the oled faced dead pixel issues as It was in my pocket and this why I had to upgrade or else I would have used it till 2026 at least
I’ve had a XS Max since 2020 after looking at a 12 Pro Max. I found, at the time, that I could get one with a lot of storage for about half the price of the 12 Pro Max. The cameras haven’t kept up and the battery was never great, but it does what ai need it to do and my wife takes the photos with her 13 Pro Max. She also starts to panic when her battery gets below 50% when it could last another day and has even unplugged my phone to charge hers unnecessarily. Mine really needed to be charged. I have been thinking about upgrading since iOS18 seems to be stressing it a bit more than iOS17. I upgraded accidentally when ai thought ai was getting another version on iOS17. It still works though.
I just upgraded from a XS max to a 16 pro max. Had it since launch date and changed the battery once in those seven years. Honestly best phone I ever had and would have kept it until it died but my sibling offered to buy me the newest phone and who am I to say no. Am still keeping it for when I do international travel so I can just pop a sim.
16 pm is garbage so is apple they can't give people 120hz on cheaper phones 😂 yet android has for years and now has 185hz oh and iOS 18 is a rip off of android
If you took it to apple to change the battery they would have upgraded you to the newer model for free because they don’t have parts or device replacements for it. That’s what they’re doing for me. I’m just waiting for it to come in the mail.
My experience using the Xsmax after iOS 18 upgrade hasn't been the best I can't lie, Phone gets hot easily, phone lags alottt, animation becomes soo crappy, Phone automatically goes dark and shows that reboot/reloading infinite circle sign for like a minute or sometimes less, apps that should be easily crushed are giving the phone a tough time, I've even had to uninstalled my COD after the upgrade cause it'll fry my phone without a cooler I've been using this phone since 2022 and I've upgraded from iOS 15 all the way to 18.0(scared to upgrade to 18.1 cause the 18.0 experience has destroyed my experience and I don't want to cause more damage) If I had money for a new one I'm switching cause NGL the iPhone Xsmax has aged no matter how you look at it. I'm glad you didn't experience these issues and I'm also surprised you were able to still do those tasks easily even after upgrading...
Hey Samuel i just wanted to ask if maybe you could boost your audio a smidge like literally maybe 2-3%? the reason I asked is I noticed I needed to turn up my volume more then usual and thought it might be something you'd like to know for perfectionism sakes moving forward lol. with that being said I really enjoy your content and you deserve so many more people watching you! I am so glad I found your channel.
apple did really good when it comes to making the iPhone XS and the iphone Xr. I use a 14 pro but i like the Xr more. I don't know why. even though it has much bigger bezzels and stuff, it feels really solid. And yeah speaking of the Xs i think it's the best looking iphone yet with it's gold colour being the best gold colour apple ever produced in their phones.
Using 11 pro max from past 4 years and the only thing I feel like ohw my phone is old is 5G and battery backup rest are still fine for me even performance pretty good
i’m daily driving an iphone 8 plus i recently bought in perfect condition. never repaired, 98% max. capacity. it’s the best phone i’ve used in years, last iphone i’ve had was a 15 pro max… it’s absolutely possible and even preferable because you’re reusing older devices plus some people might like the fact that the camera doesn’t over process pics etc.
Honestly, u should try the iphone SEs...especially the first one I've been rocking ever iPhone SE that came out and I'm waiting for the 2025 model. They have solid performance for its lower price tag.
Not saying there is no value in your point about benchmarks (comparison to the newer Pixel 9) but, as someone who has used a Pixel 5 for years (and continues to), sometimes you don't need vast amounts of power to achieve a consistently solid/smooth experience. For example, my Pixel 5 would get tragic benchmark scores, but the battery life is still incredible after 3-4 years of use (weak, but efficient) and I barely experience a hitch/slowdown in my own general use, even when editing videos/photos for example. Got a 90hz display too so, it's helped by that. I do get what you're saying about Google's devices lagging behind though, just thought it's important to say, even their weakest devices still hold up now, 4 years on. Also, just me but I think Apple makes great, consistently solid devices, but they also limit them a little more than they could, like a weak Pixel can split screen apps, but your latest iPhone can't. Or like having one of the most powerful phones on the market in the iPhone 16, but not at least giving a 90hz display to fully appreciate that in the day to day use. Interesting video nonetheless! Definitely shows off how iOS is so consistent in user experience, even in iPhones way back, and that's one of its biggest strengths. I had an iPhone 5 for many years and I felt the same back then.
Ive been using the xr for a long time already until about 3rd quarter of this year, 78% battery life can go for a whole day for me and when I travel it can last half, I switched it for a 13 since more storage and battery life, the only difference I noticed was a bit better camera quality.
still using iphone 6s. don’t miss anything, but the OS is not accepted by a few crucial apps.and the battery, well, just don’t go out without a power bank.otherwise, it is smooth and reasonably fast and doesn’t stutter.
Been using it almost since it came out in 2018. I don’t want to upgrade as the new phones are huge in comparison! Hopefully apple makes a phone with a similar size factor as the XS in the future.
I bought an iphone xs last year after I decided to switch from android to ios... the android i used was a gaming phone by infinix and I thought that iphone xs wouldn't work for me but turns out i was wrong! the best decision that I made last year. I do need to upgrade but not because of this xs getting slower or anything, its just to experience the ai thing going on... trust me this iphone will be with me for a while!
This was me but with Macs. I had a 2019 Air and then got a free 2011 iMac for free and decided to try and daily it. It's been a month now. 20gb of Ram and a 512gb SSD and it's been relatively decent on Sequoia. Better than 8gb/128gb on the Air.
The last time I used an iPhone 10 was in late 2020, when I upgraded to the 12 Pro Max, sold the X, and am currently using the 15 Pro Max. Watching these videos makes me want to buy an iPhone Xs Max, fix the battery, and use it as a work phone.
The Xs does have 20W PD fast charging, so make sure your charging cube and your charging cable supports the PD fast charging function as well. 15 minutes for 5% is unheard of for me, 15 minutes should get you around 30% of charge or more depending on the battery level off the phone.
I’m a believer in only upgrading my phone if it’s going to lead to an overall cheaper cell phone bill. Got lucky af this year and was able to upgrade while saving $40 a month. I’d have been a idget not to.
Posting this comment from my xs max. I don’t game or do video or photo editing. So for casual social media usage. The phone is good. The only problem is the battery. I got a new battery last year. And the new battery worked well for an year. Now, for some reason, it is worse than the degraded original battery. Other than battery, the phone is good. Daytime photos have really good colours. I want to upgrade. My heart wants to upgrade now but my brain wants to wait for the 17 pro series.
@ I have heard that the 5x on the 16 pro series is not that good. And on top of that I have heard the 17 pro series will have a 48mp 5x camera. That’s the reason I am thinking of waiting. But honestly, it is really hard to wait, considering the fact that I have already waited for so many years.
as a iphone user who started on 5s then went to 6, XS and now 13 pro max, i really love the flat sides cuz it brings me back to the 5s time. also been watching for like 5 months now and love your videos! keep it up.. youre the final reason i wanna switch to the s24 ultra (been thinking to switch to samsung since s22 ultra)
That video is so natural and friendly, I feel like it’s been really long time to not watch something not scripted. Thanks mate (Btw do you think it’s worth to battery replacement from Apple?)
ive had my iPhone Xs Max 512GB since 2018 and im actually getting the new 16 Pro Max after this long. I did also have the X in 2017 but upgraded the next year for the Xs Max for the bigger screen. Tbh, having them both with me, they still work good, just had to replace the battery to ensure longevity. But its been a good 6-7 years with the phone.
“Alright, let’s hope it works out for you” LOL best line of the video fantastic experiment, would be cool to see if this became a more common idea on youtube
so a family member of mine uses it, gotta say even though we bought it second hand, it ran pretty well, and a few months ago the family member even damaged the pixels of the screen (it went all black), but after repairing it, it now still runs just as well. the only downside is the battery, loss on some new features of camera, and the "Ai" stuff coming out. otherwise as an android user im willing to switch to the XS. though thinking to start with SE 3 first, since i like fingerprint unlock
I got a XS Max from my grandma (She switched to the 15 Pro Max) for free cuz it was "busted" and she was like "If you can fix it, its yours". I took it to a 3rd party shop, got the screen changed for RM250 and voila, new phone. It was magical because I was switching from a budget Android. The camera, ESPECIALLY THE VIDEO CAMERA, was the best on a phone I have used in forever. It was SO FLUID! It worked perfectly, but the battery health was at 72%. I would be fully charged at 8am, and after moderate use my battery would drop to 30%-ish around 12 or 1pm. So I switched back to my Android cuz that thing could last a whole day on a single charge. Am hoping to get an iPhone in 2025 though!
If there is one good thing about Iphones, it's their software support. Basically, if you have device that is supported with latest iOS, you're good. Using 14 PM as my primary and 11PM as a work phone, 11PM runs latest iOS 18 without any single problem, lag, stutter...
Fun fact: used iPhone Xs is still like 250usd in Korea because the photos taken on it have more natural looks and warm vibes than recent iPhones 😂

My experience using the Xsmax after iOS 18 upgrade hasn't been the best I can't lie,
Phone gets hot easily, phone lags alottt, animation becomes soo crappy, Phone automatically goes dark and shows that reboot/reloading infinite circle sign for like a minute or sometimes less, apps that should be easily crushed are giving the phone a tough time, I've even had to uninstalled my COD after the upgrade cause it'll fry my phone without a cooler
I've been using this phone since 2022 and I've upgraded from iOS 15 all the way to 18.0(scared to upgrade to 18.1 cause the 18.0 experience has destroyed my experience and I don't want to cause more damage) If I had money for a new one I'm switching cause NGL the iPhone Xsmax has aged no matter how you look at it. I'm glad you didn't experience these issues and I'm also surprised you were able to still do those tasks easily even after upgrading...
You are a good storyteller my friend. Very entertaining videos
Thanks man. I'll take this feedback. Expect 3% boost in audio for next video.
apple did really good when it comes to making the iPhone XS and the iphone Xr. I use a 14 pro but i like the Xr more. I don't know why. even though it has much bigger bezzels and stuff, it feels really solid. And yeah speaking of the Xs i think it's the best looking iphone yet with it's gold colour being the best gold colour apple ever produced in their phones.
I'm watching this on an S10+ that I bought recently. I have a newer phone but I'm using this instead for a week and I'm enjoying it
Using 11 pro max from past 4 years and the only thing I feel like ohw my phone is old is 5G and battery backup rest are still fine for me even performance pretty good
i’m daily driving an iphone 8 plus i recently bought in perfect condition. never repaired, 98% max. capacity. it’s the best phone i’ve used in years, last iphone i’ve had was a 15 pro max… it’s absolutely possible and even preferable because you’re reusing older devices plus some people might like the fact that the camera doesn’t over process pics etc.
Honestly, u should try the iphone SEs...especially the first one
I've been rocking ever iPhone SE that came out and I'm waiting for the 2025 model. They have solid performance for its lower price tag.
Good luck with the 8, used it up until recently and it’s a struggle.
Waited for this video since you told it was coming
And
It was worth the wait
Thanks Sam 👍
And yeah watching this on iXS
It really rocks
Ive been using the xr for a long time already until about 3rd quarter of this year, 78% battery life can go for a whole day for me and when I travel it can last half, I switched it for a 13 since more storage and battery life, the only difference I noticed was a bit better camera quality.
updated it to iOS 18
I still use a iPhone 11pro Max in 2024 wanna upgrade since 2 years but i somehow push it still back because it still runs really good
I love the OG SE/5s Gold phone. Amazing design. That with newer internals and camera would be an instant buy
I agree, that was my favorite design. And the reason I bought an iphone back in the day.
still using iphone 6s. don’t miss anything, but the OS is not accepted by a few crucial apps.and the battery, well, just don’t go out without a power bank.otherwise, it is smooth and reasonably fast and doesn’t stutter.
I'm still rocking my XS and s10+
Been using it almost since it came out in 2018. I don’t want to upgrade as the new phones are huge in comparison! Hopefully apple makes a phone with a similar size factor as the XS in the future.
You are Steve Jobs brother by the way you speak
you should use a 13 mini, i love the size of it!
I've been waiting for this video. *edit, i think this video will make 2nd hand XS value skyrocket. 😅
This was me but with Macs. I had a 2019 Air and then got a free 2011 iMac for free and decided to try and daily it. It's been a month now. 20gb of Ram and a 512gb SSD and it's been relatively decent on Sequoia. Better than 8gb/128gb on the Air.
Welcome to my world man ive been using an iphone x for years
Same I'm still rocking my X 🙌
2:43 PLEASE THAT WAS SO CUTE 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
The fact you had to ask Gemini on the foldable got me over here laughing
“pick any phone for me”
She picks iPhone 8
“what have i done?
She picked 5s 😂
@ oh shit my bad
but that’s even worse
Posting this comment from my xs max. I don’t game or do video or photo editing. So for casual social media usage. The phone is good. The only problem is the battery. I got a new battery last year. And the new battery worked well for an year. Now, for some reason, it is worse than the degraded original battery. Other than battery, the phone is good. Daytime photos have really good colours. I want to upgrade. My heart wants to upgrade now but my brain wants to wait for the 17 pro series.
that's like 10 months from now!
You should definitely upgrade now.
@ I have heard that the 5x on the 16 pro series is not that good. And on top of that I have heard the 17 pro series will have a 48mp 5x camera. That’s the reason I am thinking of waiting. But honestly, it is really hard to wait, considering the fact that I have already waited for so many years.
I respect you when you said “honey , don’t come out I am recording ” respect
as a iphone user who started on 5s then went to 6, XS and now 13 pro max, i really love the flat sides cuz it brings me back to the 5s time.
also been watching for like 5 months now and love your videos! keep it up.. youre the final reason i wanna switch to the s24 ultra (been thinking to switch to samsung since s22 ultra)
Be sure to check camera performance before switching to Samsung. (not "reviews" but phone in your hands for at least few days).
That video is so natural and friendly, I feel like it’s been really long time to not watch something not scripted. Thanks mate (Btw do you think it’s worth to battery replacement from Apple?)
Lol, german TH-camr 'iKnowReview' just uploaded the same video idea today
yeah I also noticed that, it’s such a coincidence
Ja und sein Video war sehr schlecht
@@joerobinnettebiden4723 ja stimmt, er hätte nicht ein iPhone XS mit kaputtem Akku nehmen sollen, das macht den ganzen test unbrauchbar
You should post the 5s video too 11:48
It's a 6 year old phone, not 7.
You scared the shit out of me for a second.
ive had my iPhone Xs Max 512GB since 2018 and im actually getting the new 16 Pro Max after this long. I did also have the X in 2017 but upgraded the next year for the Xs Max for the bigger screen. Tbh, having them both with me, they still work good, just had to replace the battery to ensure longevity. But its been a good 6-7 years with the phone.
“Alright, let’s hope it works out for you” LOL best line of the video
fantastic experiment, would be cool to see if this became a more common idea on youtube
Still on a Jailbroaken iPhone 6s 😅
the design of the iphone x/xs is so goood i can’t 2nd best designed iphone (5s on top)
I need a guide on getting my homescreen looking like yours! Clean AF
I believe he has a video about that
Yes I love the home screen setup as well, could you post a link to that video plz ❤
Samuel reminds me of my dad ahaha, thanks for your content
"how many times did tou borrow my phone" 😂😂
Forget everything else-nothing brings more joy than seeing your cute two fat babies❤
Love your videos!
The xs is still somewhat decent after all these years iPhones just age well ❤
I've been really thinking about buying a Xs because I like the size. (I plan on getting a 12 and 13 mini as well)
Man I have to know what icon pack you use for your iphones, your device just looks so beautiful
Thanks man. I left it in the description. I made them all myself one by one.
You enjoy your work more than I enjoy my life
so a family member of mine uses it, gotta say even though we bought it second hand, it ran pretty well, and a few months ago the family member even damaged the pixels of the screen (it went all black), but after repairing it, it now still runs just as well. the only downside is the battery, loss on some new features of camera, and the "Ai" stuff coming out. otherwise as an android user im willing to switch to the XS. though thinking to start with SE 3 first, since i like fingerprint unlock
I m still using my xsmax since like forever. Have replaced 3 screens though.
The 11 pro is my favorite iphone ever. Triple camera and just feels nice.
If there is one good thing about Iphones, it's their software support. Basically, if you have device that is supported with latest iOS, you're good. Using 14 PM as my primary and 11PM as a work phone, 11PM runs latest iOS 18 without any single problem, lag, stutter...
I am still rocking the Xs max it is great and I love it and it updates to the latest ios
No cap I’m keeping my iPhone 15 Pro Max for 5 years minimum. Thanks for the video
i keep recommand old flagship phone instead of midranger one
