Im 44 and started playing guitar when I was 13. Everything I learned was by memory. I never took the time to 'learn guitar". I put the guitar down about 10 years ago when my 1st kid was born. But last week I decided to open the guitar case for the first time in a decade. Now, I really want to learn the guitar. Learn it properly. So I've been binge watching and practicing you over the past week. I really appreciate your taking to time to make these. I'll be purchasing your book.

Even, Angry, Dogs, Get, Bones, Eventually……….I taught myself the fret board pretty quickly by learning where all the A BC D are located. Then I drew a full size fret board, made lots of copies of it and then filled in the blanks. And, I always speak the note names when I play scales. I’m a retired airline pilot. We learn how to simplify complicated materials and then smash those numbers, acronyms and mandatory memory items into our heads. Every time you move to a new jet, the process begins anew and never ends…There will be a test😅

I just started writing things out on fretboard diagrams last week before hearing of your channel this week. Before I even saw this video I had proved to myself that plotting chords, I would find with my ear, onto a fretboard diagram made the imaginary connection of all the notes into a solid thing I could see in a logical manner then apply. I prefer to write tunes using my ear to guide me at first then I can grab my own handwritten diagrams to fill in the blanks, see if there’s anything interesting diatonically, or search for chords I’ve found in that key (or transpose my chords into the new key). Writing it out does technically add another step in the composition process, but I can already tell that by writing it out I eventually won’t have to. Thanks for the videos

Hi Ricky. Another great tutorial. Just a wee question, not important, just being curious. The Hz for each string...E string = 82.41Hz and the A string = 110Hz. Mind you some 'geek' would refer to that just to show off...if you add all the string Hz together would they add up to 440hz as the guitar is tuned to? Again, not important as the the E A D G B E works fine for me and every other guitarist. Great tutorials.

Technically a power chord is a dyad made of a root and 5th but you can play more strings and double roots and 5ths. Then you can get silly and invert the 5th into a 4th…it depends how heavy you want them to sound!

It has more space on the fret board, so even I should be able to handle that. NOT!!! I am putting my hand in awkward angles, but I still can't fret triple finger cords. Do you know of a method to get my fingers more vertical on the fret board? Maybe old people can't bend that last knuckle enough? Help!

What you have just done is to give me the best reason to memorize the fret board. Your explanations of how to go about this incredible feat. It is the best example I have ❤heard since I picked up a
guitar at age 71 to teach myself how to play chords and songs. I am now 79, but here I am with you making sense to me so far on being able to perhaps learn the notes on the fret board. Most other so-called guitar guru's said that, as long as you can find the A note, the rest will happen like magic 🎩 😮😅😢! So I have now found you that I am in hopes that you can say some magic words, so I can peace together the rest.
Does that sound easy enough for you to explain things to me. Now, I am a LEFT-handed player. My right hand is my fretting hand.
I can play roughly 250 songs using chords. But I want to be able to play up and down the fret board like a pro. Keep it simple and understandable. Thanks so much. I will SUSCRIBE to you and be able to learn from you. This is no joke. You can laugh now if need be.😅😂

I appreciated this lesson very much.
Arrived home with my first guitar yesterday, got it tuned and made some thrashing electric guitar racket for awhile.
This morning, I wanted to actually learn something about this confusing new gizmo which still feels awkward in my hands and across my lap, keeps bumping into the arm of the chair, desk, wall, etc. It might as well be a piano, oboe or drum set - any of which I could use to make a ton of noise, but about which I know absolutely zero as far as employing them in a pleasing, musical fashion.
I had no idea what the marks on the fretboard represented, so this lesson gave me a start. I've watched it over and over and begun a notebook in order to retain each bit of information about the E strings and fretboard markings accurately in memory. Printed out some blank fretboard diagrams too.
Your expertise keeps me interested in learning to play and lends direction as I eagerly sit down to enjoy this new hobby.
    Thanks, Ricky.
