If you ever played football you will know how hard it is to score that goal, the balance one needs to do this at full speed and finally the calmness to finish with the weaker foot. And I say this as the biggest CR7 fan.
It's sad that it became such a fanboy war. They were different types of players. Messi would never have scored that bicca or the headers and free kicks that CR7 did. CR7 would never have scored the kinds of freekicks that Messi did nor this goal or the copy of Maradonas. All exceptional beauties in their own right. CR7 did something at Manchester United that I can't understand to be possible either. Full speed heeling the ball back to the other foot midstep. All done in the motions of sprint and the ball stayed right at his feet after the second touch.

The goal he scored against AC Milan in the UCL is also the stuff of magic. He was crowded by defenders at the edge of the box, received a pass, controlled it well with his first touch and before the ball could touch the ground he curled it into the top corner. It was a goal you can only score on Playstation.
That's what many used to say when they were watching him around 2010 or so, in those peak years. "Playstation". Because we all saw many skilled magical players before him (Ronaldinho, Zidane, Kaka, R9, Cristiano etc), but what he did and showed, that skill, control and technique, with the alien balance, acceleration, agility and quick reactions, doing dribbles and turns of direction where most players would fall on the ground if they attempted that even withouth the ball... That's why many said he looked like a playstation player. It just wasn't human. I would be very happy if I see a player close to him in my lifetime again.
Thank you for mentioning this goal, I remember that goal against AC Milan. I was so impressed with his reaction time I thought I was the only one who noticed. That was Messi in full. Thank you.
I've replayed the Milan goal an unholy number of times and I still can't see how he did it. That mesmeric control in a space so tight that it shouldn't exist, and then curling a full power shot into the top corner from twenty yards without any backlift...it should be impossible. And yet he did it.
Most people don't understand what Henry is saying here. The way Messi was able to touch-lift the ball 2 inches off the ground and still control it before it touches the ground, while running at full speed, with 2 close chasing defenders and still score, while falling. That's really not normal.
When you see one of the best strikers in world football have so much praise for another player's goal, so much admiration for his skills, the touch, the finish. You know that he's talking about the goat. Honestly I was always a CR7 fan as I watched him do it in the PL but then Messi played v ManU in 2 UCL final and made them look easy. Then he plays Chelsea in 2016-17 and totally tears us to shreds. Literally our defenders were chasing shadows. They couldn't get close, couldn't make a tackle. And he beats Courtois - one of the best GKs twice with his left and his RIGHT FOOT. Both through the legs. Insane.
As a fan or a peer, you appreciate past film and stories of legendary players but to be able to witness greatness in real time, unreal. Thank you Messi
Incredible... I am a cr7 fan, but not a Messi hater. How can you hate such a beauty in football!? Absolutely astonishing. Thanks God, for givin' us both of them, they made our puberty so great!
Henry was the man who scored that unforgettable back pass from pires , he took a flick and turned over and full volleyed it over Barthez . It was a beautiful goal. But watching an absolute legend being down to earth humble enough to admit , that what he witnessed is not normal, just adds to the enormity of Messis talent. And I’m a CR7 fan
Es que Messi es un prodigio de la naturaleza. En un 1 vs 1, nadie podría ganarle jamás. Eso es lo que lo hace el mejor de todos los tiempos, además de sus innumerables logros.
I remember seeing this live and it was just yet another alien moment from him. I think it's impossible to convey to folk who never watched him regularly just how good he was. It didn't seem possible to do that stuff he did.
Yes. I think Messi's peak started in 2008/09 and finished around 2013 or so. Don't get me wrong, he was still the best player on the planet for many years after 2013... But the agility, balance, explosiveness, acceleration, along with the ball staying glued to his feet, before he turned 25 or so, was something that wasn't human. Watching him at the time was like watching a circus freak (freak in a positive way). I remeber when I notised him slowing down and losing that bit of acceleration, agility etc around 2014, he was still very efficient, was scroring tons of goals, started doing those long passes more often (he nevr had that as a young player although he always had great vision and a great through ball)... He just simpy wasn't magical as before. Maybe younger watchers who havent seen Messi in those peak years and watched him around 2015-2020 while he was still winning Ballon d'Or awards think he's overrated or so... Go watch him between 2008-2013. Thank me later.😉
@@siberianTiger639I agree messi before 25 was astounding, but I still think his peak was around 27-28 as for most players, because by that time he was more complete as a player, for sure he was not as fast as before, but he had more vision, more carry potential and game iq. And mentally also he was much better as a leader , but yeah i get what you are saying.
It's always nice to see a top class player analyze a play like this. Goes to show how much above the rest Messi really is...as a Layman it would seem "yeah,okay...cool..." but Henry speaks from EXPERIENCE. He was in those shoes,he ran on that grass,he entered that box so many times! He knows EXACTLY how incredible goals like this are and how difficult they are to do in training, let alone in a live match with a full stadium and all the noise and fans...
At first I was like, what is Henry talking about, Messi has scored way better goals. Then you see it in slow motion and I’m stunned, Messi truly defied logic
@markredford84 no shit. He's a former pro player and one of the best in his time. Of course, he's gonna see goals in a different way than you a non-pro. Not because he wants to be different lol that makes no sense.
The thing that makes Messi incredible is that he had a lot of power for such a small footballer. He could strike the ball with such force that it was impossible for keepers to stop it. For such a small body he really had a lot of power.
This video is not about which goal is the best. This one move right here shows Messi is an alien. I saw the goal against Bilbao live and couldn’t sit still 10 mins after. It was incredible. But this move in this clip. It’s just not human.
I love how.. its Henry that's finally dissected this goal... that double "tap tap" left footed pair of touches... exactly... never ever gets spoken about this... that 2 step tap tap is un fuckin real... it's that exquisite, they should all have stood and truly white hankerchief applauded the boy in that moment... it's not something you can teach, so its pure majestic art... appreciation to that should have been second to none
Great explanation. Imo his best goal was the solo against bilbao, cup final 2015. There is a situation where he is on the sideline surrounded by 3-4 players. And you think, how on earth could this turn out to be a goal? Then the magic happens
My biggest joy is not even the goal, it's the fact that people have completely forgotten how fast and explosive Messi was. Being more cerebral these days has meant that people keep saying he isn't an explosive or fast player. Dude ran half the length of the pitch beating men repeatedly. And for me, his acceleration and reaction are the best I have ever seen. That for me is being explosive
Absolutely phenomenal those two touches in particular. It's in effect like an elastico, except instead of being thought out in advance and carried out as a single move it's an instinctive, separate second touch to change the direction of the ball with the same foot. Outrageous.
Also very similar to the goal he scored against AcMilan 😮 Very fast control of the ball and damn inside the net… Even the defenders got shocked like how da heck 😅
Agility. I think messi's greatest skill from watching him since 2008 , is his AGILITY. His level of agility and balance is something no other player ever has even come close to.
Agility + control. Without control the agility means nothing. But then there's the awareness as well. I don't know, I can't define one skill as his best, he is just too good at everything.
His overall leg function is the crazy thing. Hes hacked, kicked, pushed off balance. He keeps going, his balance centred by his leg placement and ball control alongside the positioning of feet. Thats nicely illustrated here
Then 13 years after, he does a similar flick in the second goal against France, when gives a pass to Alvarez with two touches of the same right foot on the air.
@@vanya3393 McAllister's pass was actually really just a cross over from the wings to Di Maria. I was referring to two touches that Messi used while the ball was in the air and while he had two defenders around him. There's a difference.

@@wkhawaja7 The stage they did it on matters too. The main difference is messi did it in a league game v Getafe & Madrid ended up winning the league that season. Maradona did it in a WC QF v England & went on to win that World Cup.
This. This is the ability Messi had in his peak and it wasn't human. That control, balance, acceleration, quick smart rections in miliseconds.... I don't think I will see a player like that in my life time. Messi post 2014-15 was still the best player in the world, but if you want to see the true alien peak Messi watch him between 2008-2012 Sorry for all the Ronaldinho and CR7 fans, they aint near peak Messi.
Speaking as one with a strong Portuguese connection, I have to agree that Messi is best at what he does. But if you were a football team manager looking to acquire a player, you would choose the best point producer, and in that case, Messi may not be the only or automatic choice, as CR7 has proven his worth in that area.

I have done it before and i understand the balance and physics in it, messi already bait the first player by projecting the more closely to him making the defender think in that nano second that he’s got the ball, but messi was just trying to use that side to plant his right foot firmly in other to do the slightly breaking mid air elastico.
The best goal i have seen him score is Against Nigeria at the world cup . I think Russia 2018. Long ball from Ever Banega. Two touches with the same leg then click click bang

I’ve said that to my friends trying to argue Messi’s out of this world case. He knew had almost full control of his body. Most people won’t understand that but known your body to the best of your ability is what separates you from the others.

You wouldn’t even see the move on normal camera except if it slowed down , that is pure instinct and talent , don’t think anyone can train for that .
you can train that movement but the thing with messi is he's a very chaotic and creative player on top of that. you may be able to add that move to your arsenal but messi has that move, plus multitudes of other small skills that he just creates on the fly so you will never truly match up to that kind of level. add his ability to create chaos and now you have a player pulling random tricks out of his sleeve at seemingly random moments and it truly feels like a natural disaster running at you
@@hao2000ki prime Messi was a natural disasters.
There was two ways you could stop him. One foul him and pray he doesn't score the free kick. And second is pray you get lucky.
If you ever played football you will know how hard it is to score that goal, the balance one needs to do this at full speed and finally the calmness to finish with the weaker foot.
And I say this as the biggest CR7 fan.
Damn
It's sad that it became such a fanboy war. They were different types of players. Messi would never have scored that bicca or the headers and free kicks that CR7 did. CR7 would never have scored the kinds of freekicks that Messi did nor this goal or the copy of Maradonas. All exceptional beauties in their own right.
CR7 did something at Manchester United that I can't understand to be possible either. Full speed heeling the ball back to the other foot midstep. All done in the motions of sprint and the ball stayed right at his feet after the second touch.
Ending was pure luck and you know i'ts true, he was almost falling down
@ Luck or not that sequence was pure skill. He almost fell but he still smashed it top corner.
Look at Henry’s face 😂 that’s the face of a man completely astonished still trying to come up with a logical explanation in his mind to explain what he saw
He's just obsessed, amazing goal but he's exaggerating it. First of all, that isn't Messi best goal. Second the touch he was all about is called elastico. People do everyday on the streets of Brazil smh.

Thank you.
@@siberianTiger639And u probably will..
I've replayed the Milan goal an unholy number of times and I still can't see how he did it. That mesmeric control in a space so tight that it shouldn't exist, and then curling a full power shot into the top corner from twenty yards without any backlift...it should be impossible. And yet he did it.
I was rooting for AC but that goal shut me up the whole game lol
Most people don't understand what Henry is saying here. The way Messi was able to touch-lift the ball 2 inches off the ground and still control it before it touches the ground, while running at full speed, with 2 close chasing defenders and still score, while falling.
That's really not normal.
😮 bro I keep saying this, that's not normal
Pretty sure we understood 😂
Umm yeah that's exactly what Henry said here
Everyone understood buddy
At the end of all ur yapping, you gave us the same conclusion... thats not normal.
Insane.
He’s balance is unbelievable
When you turn your weaknesses into strengths...
This, if someone else tries to do this, the least worse is they will possibly fall to the ground. The worse is they possibly break their leg.
my normal eyes cant see it if he dont explain it.

The goal he scored against arsenal is also mesmerising. He showed there that his brains work as fast as the speed of light

The thing that makes Messi incredible is that he had a lot of power for such a small footballer. He could strike the ball with such force that it was impossible for keepers to stop it. For such a small body he really had a lot of power.

Great explanation. Imo his best goal was the solo against bilbao, cup final 2015.
There is a situation where he is on the sideline surrounded by 3-4 players. And you think, how on earth could this turn out to be a goal? Then the magic happens
Messi isn't normal... Love you henry
Even Van Dijk once said about the Messi assist to Molina in the 2022 WC. He admitted that it wasn't normal.
When the person who say that is Thierry Henry, one of the best players.... You understand how serious is Messi. Bravo Henry , always a hero for culés!
Think about it after every match when the opposite team or your own team mates are watching the recordings and sigh off.. that's Messi effect 😊
Outrageous.
He has a point, that second touch with the left foot is not normal, Messi is probably the only player who can do it
Also very similar to the goal he scored against AcMilan 😮 Very fast control of the ball and damn inside the net… Even the defenders got shocked like how da heck 😅
No backlift, just wam bang
The fact that he even still remembers the team Messi scored this goal against shows that it left him in disbelief
Thats nicely illustrated here
Those two touches in the air to prevent the defenders from getting the ball ia absolutely stunning.
It’s alright tbh I’ve seen a lot of players do that tho. I can do it too to an extent
@@YousufAhmed-cg3qh good for u. But for me is stunning
That touch in the air is just more than perfection
Then 13 years after, he does a similar flick in the second goal against France, when gives a pass to Alvarez with two touches of the same right foot on the air.
