Digging Monster Stumps with Kubota L47 Tractor | DIY Off-Grid House Build

- In this video, the whole family gets in on pulling out stumps with the Kubota L47 loader/backhoe tractor.
Justin goes head to head with The Big One, and Lil pulls the wrong lever. One of the kids gets her first stump, and 20+ stumps later, the off grid house site starts to look like an official construction site.
We are building a little house in the woods, completely off the grid, by hand and debt free. DIY or DIE takes on a new meaning in the blazing heat, but at least there's a pool powered by solar power to jump into at the end of the day. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
I’ve dug up 24+ inch stumps with my L47. Once getting to that diameter, it takes a really long time and if it’s oak or lots of dirt in root ball, it’s too heavy to lift though can drag it. Definitely starts feels undersized at that point. Anything around 16 inches is no problem. I got a stump grinder to handle the bigger stuff and sometimes when doing work for others excavating is too messy. It’s been about 3 years with the L47 and I have been pleased. Only thing the keeps crossing my mind is owning a dedicated large 13000 lb mini ex as I think it would do better for land clearing and heavy duty stuff. It’s kinda of pain to keep taking backhoe on and off…I do work for others and that time adds up. The L47 is very often doing tractor stuff…has an abi tr3 grading rake/bucket or mx 6600 wood chipper/ grapple on it a lot of the time…ill use the backhoe with tilt grading bucket for major grading or ditching otherwise 18 inch bucket with thumb to install culverts or remove stumps. I say I ‘want’ a larger mini ex, but in reality the backhoe gets the job done just fine every time. A large mini-ex is mainly to get more into the land clearing or brush cutting business, though for that I suppose you want a 30000+ lb machine to complete with others. Thus having a backhoe makes a lot more business sense…gets the typical stuff that properly owners actually want.
The look on your child's face when the stump came up was priceless! I enjoy your videos, great job!
It was priceless!
I came here to write that.Great job by all.
😄 moments like that is what life is all about!
We cleared for our house site 23 years ago. We cleared for solar two years ago. Make sure you clear for Solar now while you’re at it. It’s a lot easier and safer before the expensive to repair house gets put up. Plus better for reducing mold growth and fire danger. Looking good! 😊
Thanks for the tip. Our solar will be going in the field on a ground mount system about 200' away from the house. Already cleared and has the best sun exposure.
Looking great!!
Thanks, appreciate the feedback!
Where are you guy located at?
We are in southeast Georgia! I checked out your channel and love the amazing homestead and house y'all are building! Lools like we have a lot in common (except opposite ends of the Country).
Y'all are doing a great job! I love seeing how the entire family is getting involved, plus they get to experience the excitement of finally being able to pull the stubborn stump out...
Thanks man, we had a blast digging up these stumps. Everyone loves the tractor 😄
Love how you are teaching the family how to do things. Great job by your son on that stump! He’ll remember that a long time. Wife seems to be liking the Kubota now! Looking good for you. Nice.
Thanks, everyone loves the tractor! Can't keep the boys off it haha
Buy the biggest tractor you can afford if your doing trees. Small tractors are fine for light dirt works and landscaping. Backhoes need big tractors.
Yep, that is what why we went with the Kubota L47 and it has done an amazing job at everything I've thrown at it so far.
Take care, be safe, be happy and love one another like life depends on it. Because it does.
Thanks!
Great job guys
Thanks for watching 😁
beastie stump. Wishing you had the retractable thumb option. Nice job clearing. Thanks for sharing
That would have been so helpful! Maybe I'll add that eventually but we were able to make do eithout it. Thanks for watching 👍
So glad I found your channel. Wish I had your energy!
Thanks for watching!
Yelp yall got it going your way. Looking good
Thanks, making progress!
I acually have taken out bigger stumps with the smaller b26 tlb it just takes a litte more time and sime creative thinking to get them out. I have pictures of one stump i pulled that had a 27ft diameter root ball it was 27inches across the top of the stump of a massive white pine tree that was cut down. It was also tangled up with an 18 inch red pine stump so it was really like digging 2 big stumps out at the same time. Send me a pm if you would like to see the photos the stump was bigger then the tractor.
These kubotas are incredible little machines.
Wow, that is a gigantic stump! Yes, we love this Kubota L47. It is perfect size for what we need around the homestead and our house build. I think the M62 would be too big for what we need with the homestead and house build.
So glad I found yals channel! Great stuff
Thanks, glad to have you join us 😀
wish I had that kind of ground to dig in!!
Yeah, we are lucky to not have any rocks to deal with haha
How are you enjoying that L47 still? Worth the extra price?
It's a 2016 model and we bought it from a used equipment rental company. I think we got a very fair deal for the condition it was in. It cost us less than buying a brand new B26 model and the extra HP was definitely worth it!
Hate to be a pain, but with the soil so sandy, why not put in a root celar
That is a great idea, and I guess the simplest answer is we have been living in a 28ft RV for two and a half years already and we want a house lol 😆 we can always dig a root cellar later after we are in the house
