    I had black spots on an indoor mango that kept spreading leaf to leaf even tho it was sprayed and pruned. It just kept spreading. Eventually, I didn't want to denude the whole plant just to control a spot or two, but didn't want to leave it alone, knowing it could only get worse and spread anyway.
    I contained the problem with clear nail polish dedicated to the task. Dabbing the spots and letting a coating dry over it It kept the black spores from spreading to new leaves, or pests dragging it around on their feet, and when there were enough new leaves, I'd strip away the contaminated leaf. Cleared the problem right up over about a month.

    Thank you for taking the time to do this. I have a question I hope you can help with. I have an indoor mango tree planted in a huge (2.5 cubic yard) built in planter here in Virginia, and I supply it with large LED grow lights that burn 350W actual. It is also in a large space with a great deal of skylights allowing a great deal of light to come into the room, but I am sure they are low-e skylights. The tree is several years old and is about 7 feet tall and 7 feet across. It is healthy, the leaves look good. It grows well. It flowers very well, but it has never fruited. It blooms during a time of the year (now, March) when we don't have houseflies. I assumed it wasn't getting pollinated, but now I am not so sure. It flowers well, and we usually get several pea sized fruits per flowering area, but they always fall off before they grow to be 8-9mm or so. I don't seem to have any fungal issues, and we water and fertilize appropriately, I believe. I intend to try the Naphthalene and the Gibberellic Acid (granular) sprayed onto the flowers. I have never used these products. Can I apply them to the flowers together in the same solution? What proportions should I mix each acid with? And I assume it is water I should dissolve them in? Thank you in advance. No one around here has any idea what to do with Mango trees!

    • @GardenTricks
      @GardenTricks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. It may not be the problem of pollination as tiny fruits grow.
      2. Use a complete fertilizer developed for fruit trees, with a higher P and K ratio. Too much nitrogen will damage flowers.
      3. This year, try this and see results. If no success, then you may use Naphthalene and Gibberellic Acid spray next season.
      Spray horticultural oil or eco oil or pest oil when the mango flowers begin to appear, and continue every week on flowers and growing mangoes until the fruits grow to a large size, stop the spray 2 weeks before you intend to cut the fruits.
      4. Also ensure that the temperature in the yard do not fall too much during flowering.

    • @jjacobporter
      @jjacobporter 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GardenTricks Thank you for the suggestions. I will try that. So to be clear, since there are some pea sized fruits, you think pollination is happening? It's odd since it's an indoor tree, and we don't really have any pollinators inside. When you say "horticultural oil or eco oil or pest oil", do you mean something like neem oil? A teaspoon of neem oil in a quart of water, with a bit of organic dish soap as an emulsifier? Do you think the spraying of the neem oil on the flowers will also help in pollination? Thank you!

    • @GardenTricks
      @GardenTricks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In mango pollination can also happen from insects and wind. As there are tiny fruits forming, it means pollination is happening. You can find pest oil online or garden shop.

    Thank you for the useful info ...May I ask what happened to my mango tree..I sprayed fruit inducer and it flowered and fruits have started to set ... I sprayed it with insecticide, fungicide, and complete fertilizer and it has set new flowers. What happened? May I please be enlightened. Thank you again.

    • @GardenTricks
      @GardenTricks  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fruit inducers like potassium nitrate and other similar chemicals encourage the plant to produce flowers. After that you sprayed insecticide, fungicide snd fertilizer and it again flowered. This is surprising to me.I thnk the first flowering was a forced one due to chemical spray, while the second one due to nomal fruiting cycle.

    • @GardenTricks

      It depends on the type of mango seed from which the tree was grown. Only polyembryonic type mango tree will produce fruits in less than 5 years. If the tree was grown from a mono type seed, then it may take 12-15 years.

      Naphthaleneacetic Acid is widely used as a rooting agent that can improve blossoms and growth in plant cuttings. 1mg NAA in 1 ml water has been recommended by some manufacturers.

    • @GardenTricks
      @GardenTricks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One simple way is to cut the old branches, while the other thing you can do is to completely make a shadow on tree. Sun is necessary to produce flowers on old branches.

    • @8daudiolyrics576
      @8daudiolyrics576 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GardenTricks thanks for the suggestion. The tree is 4-5 floor high, hence shadowing is impossible. Cutting the branches seems a good option. Can u tell after how many years I'll have to cut the branches again?
      Also do you know any chemical that can do any help?

    • @GardenTricks
      @GardenTricks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@8daudiolyrics576 I do not know any chemical for this purpose. The pruning should work as fruits on mango tree grows only on old branches. You have to prune every year, but stop a year before you want fruits. The tree is so high, so this way you reshape the tree.
