    I sell custom-made physical products on Etsy, averaging about 5 orders per month. When I run ads, I get more orders, but it also leads to significantly increased workload for the same profit. Even old and dead shops know how to generate sales-they understand what sells, know the prices, trends, and competition. What they don't know is how to make this business profitable. Would love to see more videos on this topic. Thank you!

    Hi Nik, I opened my Etsy store November 2021. Have not been very proactive as another opportunity came along. I now want to revive my store and am interested to hear what you have to say about it. At My Flower Keepsake we create bespoke keepsakes with primarily wedding flowers. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks for all your videos. I love your no bs, to the point narrative. Cycle out the old inventory... Thats great advice. My store is dying and it's because people really "picked through" the inventory. I kept relisting the stuff that didn't sell... but now I have a ton of drab looking inventory... it all added up to make my whole store look boring and lowered my conversion rate... {I see my foible now, but I was just so busy listing stuff every day that I didn't notice for a long time} oof what a hard lesson! I hope I can turn it around and be successful like before. Thanks... So far this is the best video I've seen on this topic and is very logical.

    Hello Nic,
    Thank you for sharing all these tips. My shop has been active since 2017, selling movie posters that I've designed. Over the years, I've been able to achieve a good monthly income with around 200 daily visits and 2-3 daily sales. However, I began receiving IP infringement notices, which prompted me to take action. About 15 months ago, I made the decision to remove all of my movie posters to avoid a permanent ban from Etsy, and then everything changed.
    For the following 5 months, my shop was in vacation mode while I worked on designing a new concept for my posters. I re-launched with 200 new listings with trendy theme posters, but unfortunately, my efforts didn't succeed. Over the last 15 months, my shop has remained dead.
    So, from the one hand having 4500 sales and nearly 500 five-star reviews, on the other hand, five IP notices, five months in vacation mode, and a year of 20 visits per day, with only 20 active listings.
    Given this situation, I'm unsure whether I should attempt to open a new shop or continue my efforts with the existing one. I genuinely appreciate your time and advice.

    Hi Nik. Another great video.
    My store is asleep as opposed to dead i think. As discussed in our consultation i need stock width and depth which I've been working on. It's taken longer than I anticipated however I'm on final samples stage.
    I have other products lined up too. I'm going to wait until i can reboot with adding one listing per day rather than add them here and there with big gaps in between listings.

    I ended my POD Etsy store after too many stupid buyers complained that shipping was taking too long. They failed to understand how the process works and that I don't have access to tracking numbers from the printer nor when they are on some island in the middle of the Med that shipping goes via several carriers. Even when my shipping profile and disclaimer stated so. As well the entire POD market is flooded.

      @endyoursearch ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never ran into that problem, what were your sales like? monthly / daily? I limited delivery only to the united states though. I didn't really want to challenge myself to do international.

    • @hannahmitchell87
      @hannahmitchell87 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sorry but speaking from experience here. If buyers are too 'stupid' to understand your process, that's on you for not managing expectations & communicating clearly. I know it's tricky & there'll always be some people who don't see/ read/ or just ignore the info & complain anyway (especially around holidays) but if you've got a high proportion of unhappy customers, that's a reflection of areas you need to improve on. I've learned some valuable lessons by stopping criticising buyers & turning the focus onto myself.
      Best of luck if you decide to give it another go, or have multiple shops

    • @Qwijebo
      @Qwijebo ปีที่แล้ว

      No - buyers really are that stupid. My shop was successful for years. When I switched over to POD buyers expected immediate shipping even if they didn't opt for expedited delivery. The over-saturated Etsy POD market is sad because of shitty images, copy pasted images from other shops, generic been done designs etc. Too much over-priced crap to bother with. Esty is going downhill.@@hannahmitchell87

    I've commented on a few of your videos now, and I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your helpful and down-to-earth approach. You have a knack for explaining things in a way that makes them easy to understand, and I always feel like I'm learning something new from your videos.
    After watching quite a few of your videos, I'm starting to wonder if Etsy is the right platform for me. My niche is creating one-of-a-kind textile items from waste or deadstock materials. This means that my products range from upcycled denim bags to personalised fabric party crowns to children's tees made from leftover fabric scraps.
    I know that Etsy can be a great platform for handmade and vintage items, but I'm not sure if it's the best fit for my unique and eclectic style. I'm also concerned about the fact that I don't have a large inventory of any particular item. I know that you recommend having a higher quantity of each item in your shop, but that's not always possible with my upcycled creations. I've upped a few quantities, but I'm hoping no one orders more than one of anything!
    I'm still working my way through your video archive, and I'm sure I'll find more helpful tips that I can implement, whether I decide to stick with Etsy or not.
    Thank you again for all of your helpful advice!

      Hi there, thanks for your comment. I have a video specifically for sellers that sell one of a kind items, link below. The stock inventory needs to be at least 20, and what's the worst thing that can happen, you may get more orders for the item than you have, however customers are very understanding, you can communicate that you may need a longer processing time, or you only have an alternative product.

    Thank you Nick. Another great video and now I am thinking that yes I have a dead shop, which is a bit heartbreaking as I have been following all your advice from previous videos and have managed to get my listings up to 140 (adding one a day for months and months). This month I have had 327 views, 245 visits, however only one order (and that was not for very much at all). Time to feel really deflated.
    As I have a variety of different things in my shop, photographs for sale, artwork, ceramics, candles, I don't think that I have a "niche" so that is probably why I am failing.
    My shop has been open since 2020 however I have only this year started being more proactive on it, with your advice. I have only had 15 sales with 9 reviews.
    I think it is about time to do something drastic before the Christmas rush starts but I don't know what to do? Another platform or stay with Etsy? I really don't know...
    Any help would be amazing as I really am struggling financially and want to make this work.

    I've had my store for over 1 year and have had less than 20 sales. I now realise after watching your videos what I was doing wrong (less than 40 items, adding groups at a time with long periods of not adding, low stock, incorrect tags and titles, limited videos). My question is I'm now going through adding an item a day, amending titles, tags, adding videos, am I better off still doing this to revive it or should I end the store and start again? I prodomently sell greeting cards, which I also know is a very saturated market but am starting to do some homeware items as well

    I appreciate the informative video. I've been contemplating a particular aspect of Etsy's functionality. In cases where a listing encompasses a physical product and also provides the opportunity to buy its digital counterpart, could you elucidate how the confirmation process is orchestrated for these digital transactions? Considering the inherent need for tracking numbers with physical items, a parameter obviously irrelevant to digital versions, I'm genuinely intrigued by the operational approach in such scenarios.

    • @etsyconsultant
      @etsyconsultant  ปีที่แล้ว

    I have multiple stores a couple dying with two to three hundred items each. When you say get rid of the Dead listings are we talkin about copying and changing SEO photos on a new listing of the same product that Once Sold well? Or an entirely new product? Also is deactivating enough or removing them completely?

    Hi Nick, Many thanks for the fantastic knowledge you share. You are the best of all!
    I opened my Etsy shop about 6 years ago, I had about four products then, I sold one - and I haven't touched the shop since. I've been doing other things over the years.
    Eight months ago, in January 2023, I decided that I wanted to try again, and this time with all the seriousness and investment required, I am selling jewelry I create.
    I listed products, not consistently (because then I still didn't know about the 1 a day rule), and I reached 50 listings.
    For the last month, I have been listing one product a day, and now my store has 75 products.
    Unfortunately, I have almost no sales, on average one sale every two to three months, and the average amount of views in my store every day is 20-30.
    Is my store dead and I have no chance to revive it?
    What am I doing wrong? I spend many hours on the subject, and it would be a shame if all my investment in this store goes down the drain, especially when the holiday season is coming up soon.
    Please help!

    Hi there, my store is called Lit From Within Designs. Im a digital wall art shop, my niche is poetry with subsections of Christian,sensual, black empowerment. All poetry is original by me. It says my store is open in 2021 however i didnt do any thing until 2022😅 I have 58 listings and 12 sales. My last sale was dec 2023. I wasnt pushing my store because i was getting my masters and starting a new job but now i have time dedicated to it. Should i close and restart or take away the dead listings and create new ones. It looks like in the past I was getting traction on my christian listings so maybe I should focus on that

    Question- what qualifies as a niche? Like, I know weddings, and books, and nurses, etc. With my store though, I've got it set up with an aesthetic instead (like boho). Would it matter if I ended up selling all sorts of different items, shoes, ornaments, notebooks, lamps, etc if they're all in the same aesthetic? Like how Hot Topic does punk / goth / metal / anime- or do I need to restrict slightly? not the lamps, but go ahead with the rest? (Currently my shop is new, started last month, and everything is 'cute/kawaii' so far its just clothes, stationary, a mug, and a blanket.)

    • @etsyconsultant
      @etsyconsultant  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, the shop needs to be cohesive, and make sense. You will have to try the aesthetic and see if it works across items, if your brand message is strong, and everything about your store makes sense, AND people want to buy your stuff it is entirely possible, yes.
      Most people fail at the above, and this is why I get people back to basics, and a proven path of what is most likely to work, which will not be the above, for the average Etsy seller.

    Hi Nik!
    First of all, thank you so much for all the advice you give on Etsy. I'm very happy to have found your page, too bad it wasn't sooner, I think it would have saved me a lot of headaches.
    I have a question. I created my Etsy store at the beginning of last year (2023), and I did it all wrong. I only had 10 listings (in a whole year...) and 2 sales. I closed the store at the end of the year, removed all the listings and would like to open a new store. The store I had was for physical products, but right now I want to open a digital store for artwork printables. What do you think is best, reopen the store, change the name and design and put up new listings (1 per day to at least 365 days). Or create a store from scratch?
    Thank you very much for your time and excellent work. I really appreciate it

    • @etsyconsultant

      Hi there, one mug is one listing, so counts as 1 on your inventory, and a T shirt, even if the same design, on a separate listing would be another one. In the early days I recommend listing one item a day, so in this case one mug one day, and the tshirt the next.

    *I have a question regarding switching from a POD shop to a digital shop. I opened a print-on-demand Etsy shop 7 weeks ago. I don't have any sales yet (but some people have made "favorites" on some items). For the first 5 weeks I was suspended, even though I followed all of your steps to try to avoid new shop suspensions. Etsy eventually contacted me to state that they suspended me in error. I had been following your advice of uploading one item per day, so I only have 15 items in my store since I was suspended for quite a while. I'm considering deleting the items in my store, disconnecting it from Printify, and changing it to a digital shop. Is this a bad idea? Or jewellery: gothic? Your example of weddings would have a mix of products, correct? How would wedding reception be a narrower field? Have I misunderstood niches or just your example, or both?? 😅

      Hi Hannah, thanks for your comment. OK so to help you clothing wouldn't be a niche, but 'sports clothing' would be, then a sub niche might be 'tennis clothing'. With the wedding example, the sub niche of 'wedding reception' would mean only items that you would need for the reception part of the wedding, rather than the whole event. I hope that helps.

I will slowly get rid of dead stock as you suggested but I am making higher end stuff now which takes me about 10 days to make each garment but unique do you think this will further slow my shop down only posting every 10 to 12 days

    I have a little weird situation, I've created a store around 10 months ago, but didn't list anything for like 4 months. Then I got back to it and started to slowly list items made up to around 20 sales and then suddenly in June when I listed one item it got insane 200 sales in one month (I think I had around 30 listings) , but then it was slowly getting worse, another month 170 sales, another 118 another 74 and very down to 25 sales in a month. So basically fast grow and fast decrease. But now I want to revive it again, I started to list new items (I had like 80 listings, deleted around 30 and made around 20-30 new) and use also etsy ads, I got from 25 to 37 sales a month in previous month and this month I have already 32 sales and its just half of the month so I might potentially do like 60 sales this month. Is this store considered dead? What would you recommend me to do in this situation?

    Hi there! I’m quite new in this world and I would like share with you what’s happening to my store. I opened a store on Etsy 17 days ago. I’m now following the advice about adding one new listing per day and today I’ve listed my 7th item. The stats of my store, so far, are of 530 visuals, 249 visits but only 3 orders. I’m working really really hard on it, every day trying to add something new and reviewing previous products. I don’t know if something better could be done, maybe better product descriptions? I don’t know… I’m kind of worried about this. Because I see visuals kind of constants over time, but the orders number remain always the same. Any suggestion is appreciated! Thanks

      No I’m in the US, and I don’t believe it to be time zone related. I’ll see it happen several times in the same day.
      TBH, I’m of the impression that it’s because several (not all) of my items are of a certain political flavor that the powers that be do not like. My shop has been suspended once (with no explanation) and 3 items have been deactivated by Etsy for spreading “Harmful Misinformation” (they had a movie quote on them). I’m afraid I’m being pushed to some sort of bottom shelf for having ‘wrong-think’

My health then deteriorated to the point i was sadly unable to continue on with the plan i had initially set out with. I ended up putting my store in to Holiday Mode, until i felt ready to continue.
