I'm hooked on your videos. I can't thank you enough. You are a breath of fresh air among all these other etsy "experts" that basically encourage you to do what everyone else is doing. You are the only one I've seen so far that has advised your audience to bring their own products to the marketplace and dominate. It makes perfect sense.

It’s refreshing to see someone who is NOT trying to sell a tool, like Everbee or Erank, that is all I hear on everyone else’s channel. Although those tools aren’t very expensive, it is still money being spent, and I think people would have to factor those in to their total cost to make the product…when they’re seeing how much profit they are making. Thank you. I am not sure if I understand what you are talking about in this video, but I will watch it until I understand it.

I've been creating but am going to take a break and do the research and start creating again. I need to shut down the monthly charges for E rank and such and stay within etsy. Your 10 minute method made so much sense too and I am going back and looking at everything I've done so far. I also took down all my T shirts and am going straight mugs for now. I’ve done this, but on paper, not on a spread sheet. My products fall between the high end/high cost leather designer tote bags and low end/low cost cotton grocery bags.
I have 3 price levels, looking for a fourth bag at a lower cost, while maintaining quality. Added astrological bags in January (thank you). Keeping my sections evergreen. I’m working on my “twist” in order to differentiate myself from the two main categories I found while doing research.

I follow you Nick from the beginning, well almost from the beginning when I opened my store in October last year. My niche is very personal and for that reason is very difficult to find strong data about what seels and what not. I sell my personal photography so I can't compere my works to anybody else. Since I follow your advice I started to do the research inside the Etsy but this is actually much more deeper and more organise way, and I will definitely do it. What I want to say is that my shop is 4.5 months old, I did sell 2 photos in December and my average monthly traffic is around 180-190 visits, in December over 300. So perhaps this is not certainly the top but I also analyze my statistics and what is significantly growing is my SEO value. At the moment for February it's 67% of my traffic was brought by Etsy itself and this is almost double to compare with 2 months ago for example. This gives me indication that maybe I have still long way to perfect my research and shop strategy but it seems that I go in good direction, and of course your knowledge is a gold for me.

Once again you "show" your work by "proving" out your method. I have watched so many Etsy videos based on title and wasted hours of my life because afterword's I was like......I learned nothing that had any meat to it, just fluff. When I sit down to watch your videos I have at least 2 pages of "workable notes!" I can then take those notes and actually create a "workable plan" to put in motion. It's changed my whole attitude from being unsure of myself to .......whoa.....hey, I got a PLAN. Watch out Etsy, here I come!!!!

Following your video, I've visited dozens of Etsy shops.
    2 things :
    - I am stunned by the numbers of shops that do sell but haven't set up their shop... forget nicely, make it complete and informative at the bare minimum !!! With all your good advice, I would say it gives us a MAJOR head start ;-)
    - Looking for French stores, I have a hard time to find that many which sell over 1000 items for my king of items. Should I do my keywords and niche research on the US market (knowing that Etsy will probably post my store over there after translation)... or would you have a lower number for European countries/marketplaces ? Or maybe the keyword I searched is too narrow focused?

In this video I want to ask something you mentioned about searching the high demand part, you mentioned half of the work will be done on inside Etsy ( about the hard work, collecting reviews, date, time and analyze it) and half of the work will be done outside Etsy. Can you please tell me about the outside Etsy work? since it will help me and etsy newcomer with the time consuming.

ATM I'm only selling in AU because I don't think people from overseas would buy a candle from the other side of the world (at least I wouldn't, with the risk of breaking the glass, expensive shipping etc). Hi Nik.. Great videos - I have learned a great deal many many thanks - I have a quick observation / question.. not sure if this is just me or not, but some stores appear to not share their sales data?
i.e. when you go to their shop and click on their sales there is no hyperlink to the sales.
Just wonder if this is something you have observed yourself ? it would seem there must be an option on Etsy not to share this data which i guess is to stop other people mining this data.

Hi, yes. It's an option you can enable from within Etsy. Here's how you can do it:
      1. Go to Shop Manager > Settings > Options.
      2. Scroll down to the Sold Listings section at the bottom of this page.
      3. Change the selection from ‘Sure, show them’ to ‘No, hide them.’
      4. Click the Save button at the bottom of the screen.

And often times I have various kinds of ideas that can be translated into different kinds of products: for entrepreneurs, for gifting, for home decor, etc. Is it possible to have a shop which will have this wide variety of digital products without focusing on one particular thing? Hello, Mate. Your knowledge and approach are excellent! The best information I could find. I wanted to thank you for the valuable information and learning I'm getting from you. I am now finishing a more professional product research that I skipped in the beguiling of my journey few months ago. Not only that, but I followed the advice you gave in this video, but I also put together all the products from 20 stores in an Excel sheet with data from a tool. Although the data may not be perfect, it seems to me that it is pretty accurate. Data such as faves, Est. Total sales, monthly, listing age, etc. Estimated data. I can filter the results and have a more in-depth understanding of bestsellers vs. listing age, and find already proven selling products. Do you think this could help, or is all the data far inaccurate, and that all the work I'm doing is for nothing? I will greatly appreciate your view on this. Thank you so much. Cheers!

Hi Nick, thank you for this yet another great tutorial! Quick question, I have a history t-shirt niche and my sub-niches are different periods in history e.g. Roman Empire, Napoleon Bonaparte etc. I recognise these are quite sub-niches (no massive demand here but I believe history lovers can potentially love my designs :-) ) therefore it is very difficult to find strictly history-related accounts and research in this way. Such t-shirts are usually offered by generic stores that sell all type of different themes so it's very difficult to figure out what's happening in my niche. Would you just focus here strictly on the product so what type of history-related t-shirts sell and then try to offer sth different? thank you!

    • @etsyconsultant

You can do keyword entries to see the overall number of products that are out there (you have to do this on mobile though), type in "history t shirt" and see how many total products there are. You should find a lot of information from there, you can go into the stores and do some digging and see what is working and so on. You can then go from there with your own design decisions.

I did the spreadsheet for 10 shops similar to mine (so far) and the numbers are all over the place for sales vs number of items in the store. I'm looking at digital art for this. The store with the most items does not have even close to the amount of sales the top seller has (even though they are close in number of items). Then we've got stores with very low inventory but crazy high sales. We've got stores with low sales, medium inventory and opened 9 years. Stores with medium inventory, high sales and just opened this year. So, unfortunately I'm not finding the spreadsheet all that helpful. I guess I'll dive deeper and take a look at their top sellers....although I have already done this over the last 4.5 months. It feels like you basically have to win the etsy lottery....and if you don't, you've absolutely wasted months and months of your life. Its only been just over 4 months for me on Etsy and I've got 34 sales....so I'm trying to be patient. Crossing my fingers all this hard work will eventually pay off.

Hi, great question GTM. So in certain circumstances it can be a good idea for Pattern, for example, you quickly need a website set up to show professionalism for your brand, or you just need a placeholder on the web for your products to send traffic to.
Overall though, I always advise against Pattern because you are still under Etsy's control, the "website" is never actually yours.

@@etsyconsultant Thanks! My Etsy store is called "TravelWithJoe" and started everything from scratch. I have been following your 100 day listing plan of one listing a day. Still no sales, am I going in the right track, please?

Thanks for the tips, Nik! Do you think i can sell t-shirts and digital products or should a narrow down?

Hey Retro, thanks for getting in touch. I would recommend narrowing down in to digital products because it is much easier to get in to and get those initial first sales.

I think people who found the high demand low competition products are simply not looking for help, they're swimming in gold coins like Scruge McDuck 😆. That's my theory of why you haven't seen much of these products :)

Hi, thank you for your comment. I work with many successful Etsy shops, not just ones that are struggling to get off the ground. Products with high demand and low competition are very rare.

When doing product research what, if any, relevance does store country have? Does the algorithm favour local stores for organic search, and does it vary by product type? Thanks.

Hey Neuro, almost 60% of the Etsy customers are in the US, so pay attention to US stores.
