World Violation was my first gig. I was a 17 years old high school student, totally broke from Czechoslovakia. They omitted Prague on this tour. So I borrowed 100 Deutsch Marks and went to Berlin where you couldn´t buy a ticket unless you had 300 Marks. It was fucking cold, I met 12 other fans from my country and we waited the whole day in front of Deutschlandhalle for a miracle. At about 7:45pm I saw Andy Franks outside the venue with a big walkie talkie, their tour manager, the one who says "start the tape" on 101.The others couldn´t speak much English so I shouted,"hey Mister Franks, hey Mister!" until I got his attention. I quickly described our situation to him and he just asked, "How many of you are from Czechoslovakia?" "Thirteen, sir." "OK, gimme 5 minutes". And after 5 minutes he came back with 13 backstage passes! I thanked him personally about 10 years later when I worked for a record company and he was in Prague as a tour manager for some other act, I can´t remember who.
@@germantejada1 And stupid, too. I took train to Berlin. From Prague it´s only 200 miles. The ticket cost about 4 Marks. I didn´t think of buying a return ticket. Thought the price would be the same in Germany. To my surprise it wasn´t. In Berlin they charged 60 Marks! So, after the concert I slept in an appartement building, by the dustbins. It was extremely cold for early November. Then I walked towards the highway. A black guy stopped. He was driving from Hamburg to Prague and he had beer cans everywhere. I talked for a while.....and I was home. Suddenly, this guy wakes me up. He told me, the customs let me through because they couldn´t wake me up. I just thanked him and asked him how many can he had drunk. Thirteen, he smiled, white teeth shining in the black face.
I have a similar story from 1994. I was 19 and studying in Indiana as a foreign student. DM was going to have a show in Indianapolis. I took a bus from my university to Indianapolis and thought i could take a bus or taxi to the concert. Then i found out it was 30 mins drive outside the city. I had no car, and no bus or taxi could go there. USA has terrible public transport outside cities. I started walking on the highway, then eventually i hitched a ride. As a girl, i was super nervous, but also desperate to reach the concert. Anyway, i was "in the hands of fate" and he drove me to the concert. I didn't even think about how i was going to get back, and by a miracle, someone i knew from college was behind my row at the concert. It's pretty crazy when i look back, to be young and stupid and mad about Depeche Mode. th-cam.com/video/n1cpkjm7JIM/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=FLAME-XIII
I remember during the World Violation tour, when DM came through Montreal, they played "Route 66" as an encore and the entire arena went crazy, I mean the energy levels could have blown off the roof. I would love to see them play it again. And they can do it. During this "Delta Machine" tour, they pulled out "But not tonight" and no joke, everyone knew every last word. DM4ever!
I was lucky enough to see the World Violation Tour in Sydney and this song was the best. Hard to believe it was almost 20 years ago, still seems like yesterday.
I still remember this tour. This was the final song of the concert. Absolutely brilliant and adorable. I am happy I saw them 3 times in 1990 here in Germany.
Proud to say that this was my FIRST concert ever! Pine Knob, Detroit, MI! July 1990! I was 15. I just ordered Violator & 101 on cd because of this vid! Fantastic!
I was 15 for this tour, saw them at Dodger Stadium, August 4th 1990. At that time I paid an unheard of $125 for 11th row seats. That was sadly beaten last year (2006) for front row Radiohead tickets at the Greek Theatre LA. :( I wish I was that age again.
yep. their live sound has been the same for about 10 years now. it seems there's no one like Alan who'd put energy and enthusiasm to sound different and cool live. and unfortunately it's true for their studio albums, too.. :( let's hope that things will change soon! ;)
yeah, Alan put the mode in depeche. this is when they were untouchable and in a class all by themselves. no other main electronic act could even come close at this time.
Depeche Mode are Martin's songs and Dave's voice. if you knew anything at all, you'd know that this encore is The Beatmasters' remixes. Alan did NOT create these versions.
Alan Wilder, the silent genius behind Depeche Mode’s greatest hits! Dave just with voice, Martin lyrics, Flatcher clapping and Alan create that magical electronic sound.
Sorry folks, Martin does NOT 'fuck up' at the beginning or anywhere on this video. The notes he's playing in the opening are similar with little variation from their gig in New Orleans from this tour. As a matter of fact, the boot-legged live versions are identical to this. The only exception is Route 66 is usually incorporated into Behind the Wheel instead of having that 'Can't take my eyes off You' lead up.
@Jarren202 I may well have changed my mind; the touing the angel version, what with sortofticking sound instead of martin's "ahh-ahh-ahh" is pretty sweet.
@kittylover555 it was the import only of Behind The Wheel that had the original Route 66 as a B Side. In the USA we had a mega mix single called Behind The Wheel/Route 66 that had different mixed together versions. You can pick up a shorter 7" version of just Route 66 on the Earth Girls Are Easy soundtrack.
@Jarren202 I hardly even noticed the bassline, just thoght it sounded like some lame trick they'd thrown in late,so the single mix's better to me!also because most sounds seems to have morereverb or something on them in it.they echo more..

Jammy devil. I was too young to see them in London. Saw them twice on the devotional tour. Once at Crystal Palace and also at Wembley Arena.

Thanks for having filmed the film!
Jesus fuckin christ Alan's solo is just brilliant!
He took it from Beatmasters mix. So,it's not his solo.
But it's him playing anyway so..
deathspells fuck christ Yes! I agree

the stages were so elaborated back then...2 displays, 3 etages...I kinda miss them today.
Nada mejor que esto.Mil gracias
Violator Tour 1990. The best tour ever.
I remember ”Waiting for the night to come” at a volume that made bars shake in Globen. (Tear wipe)
5:19 shouts ‘Alan Wilder!’ then Dave & Martin start dancing around him. I can’t get over that...let me repeat...I can’t get over that.

Martin's dance 5:30..goood!
very interesting to see everyone except for Martin to wear white pants, you very rarely saw Alan and Fletch wearing white pants.
man o man...if it wasnt for alan wilder, their live sound wouldnt have been too different from 1983, for years on end. Alan was a genius
FOREVER DM IS THE BEST

@@FlickanIDetKroktaRummet very true although with Steve Lyon he did create the fantastic live versions in 1993/94
It's pathetic that the band made no effort to bring him back.
Alan Wilder, the silent genius behind Depeche Mode’s greatest hits! Dave just with voice, Martin lyrics, Flatcher clapping and Alan create that magical electronic sound.

The beginning is a bit messed up cause at one point Martin starts to plat the guitar at wrong times and that confused everyone else too but that's ok.

Well probably. Not to say he danced far far more than he does today. I like his movements back then xD

Lo curioso es que Martin se cruza con la guitarra en la introducción de la canción
Se desfaso con cuatika

I mean @DaveGahan he is a @Stallian
😅 did Martin played his guitar 🎸 Riff to early?
Do you want me to transcribe it?
Always thought Martin sang Route 66
you are right ... but not in this live version :D
Generally he does. But not in this performance.

04:50 alan Wilder extended version
eh? this The Beatmasters' remix. go fuck yourself with your Alan obsession

06:13 RARE¡
Man o man Martin is hot...
Dommage que ce soit flou
got 6th row for $80 well worth it
since i tried all weekend to win them on KROQ
Vaya a saber qué le pasó a Martin al comienzo de la canción que se adelantó un compás y dejó la cagada.
hahahha
dang martin DOES fuck up sick
that sucks
i wonder what wilder was thinking
Demjen
Martin screwed up on the guitar at the beginning with the timing
sorry,what?
