  • Max Richter’s monumental work ‘SLEEP’ has now been reinvented as a new app, offering tailor-made musical sessions to aid sleep, meditation and focus. Download for free here: app.adjust.com/3e3wa9e
Acclaimed Britsh composer Max Richter has written a new landmark recording: SLEEP is 8 hours long - the equivalent of a night’s rest - and is actually and genuinely intended to send the listener to sleep. "It’s an eight-hour lullaby," says its composer, Max Richter.
The ground-breaking new work is scored for piano, strings, electronics and vocals - but no words. "It’s my personal lullaby for a frenetic world," he says. "A manifesto for a slower pace of existence."

      Soft serve sweetness...
      swishes around...
      in my wishes...//
      well'n up
      in the heart//
      well'n up in the throat//
      holding up..swollen,
      this mouth now...
      where there's a foot//
      sometimes mine//
      sometimes yours//
      once there were words//
      without viruses.../
      wholesome lovely beautiful combinations...
      that could unlock hearts
      n'souls n'minds
      at the same time...//
      once when
      you were here//
      beside me...//
words could be just the sprinkles
      for the laughter...
      or the sparklers...
for the dark n'sensuous vibrant night's..//
      once when...maybe
      we spoke in other
      -words,
      like these cellos
      ...softly...
      like ya said//
      maybe once we....
      were like barefoot
      running
in the middle of the night
beneath the stars ✨ trying to catch fireflies together...//
      maybe,
      once...//
      we...//
wrapped eachother in christmas paper and went to school like that...//
      gold n blue...
      ribbons n bows n'shit...//
      all smiles...//
maybe... once we all held hands and ran through the zoo together...with friends we just met..
      your dress that day....fk
      remember?
it was summer, warm... and you were beautiful....and when everyone stopped holding hands, maybe you kept holding mine...//
      maybe
...it made my whole body tingle//
maybe we held hands the rest of the time there...//
maybe it was one of the most sensual thing that ever happened to...
      that kid//
      probably kids//
      maybe just kids//
      yes.. just kids.
      maybe we can't be together
      ...like that anymore//
      maybe that's
      ok//
      maybe words are worthless//
      or just probably these ones//
      ya../
      these ones//
      ...but//
      your hand...//
      it was so warm..//
      it was the softest..
      omg...the fkn
      softest...
thing he'd ever held in his life up until that day...//
Thank you for not letting go that day// That was a good day// years ago...and just
      a moment ago//

This song feels like you spent years on planning revenge on someone but forgive them at the last moment. And the other person has no idea that you planned revenge and forgave them.
You are just sitting in complete solidarity, happy that you chose peace over destruction, but sad that you wasted years on such futile thing. All these emotions in your head with no one around to comprehend that.
And at such time, this music whispers in your ears, "You did the right thing, now rest."

It feels like such a crime to grieve when he is still here, laying quietly on the couch, the consistent whirl of his oxygen concentrator humming along. I can touch him and he is warm and inviting. he still smiles at me with a twinkle in his eyes, even if he is tired, worn, struggling to breath. I grieve for the walks we took in the woods together, for the canoe trips we shared, even for the times we sat in the coffee shop browsing through magazines and books, just being together. Or when we did yardwork, and I would stand on top of the pile of debris tied in the back of his pickup truck, and stomp up and down to compress it down. And he would laugh and admire me. Laughter. Quiet. Why do we never remember sounds? I remember so many beautiful scenes, but never hear voices. Even in my dreams it is all visual, no sound.

It is correct that experiences pass. But the problem is not that the experiences pass. We hold on to it but the problem is that the true values that represent the soul have been lost in society and in individuals. And that makes us sad and hopeless and that's a good thing. But if the prior to the just recent sentence is true then all illusion is reality. Wait... So everything is nothing, illusions are reality, and everything you can imagine is everything you say it is. Memories
The only thing that can be pleasant and unpleasant at the same.
You remember the smiles, the smells, the laughs, the cries, and all the moments you have gone through, yet you feel it’s part of you that was lost and never to come back.
A piece of you left in the past that will fade into nothing.
So many people have their memories forgotten.
    So many moments left alone.
We create memories that are deemed to be lost in the void.
Memories fade into a forever endless pit to rest there alone.

“Even now, all possible feelings do not yet exist, there are still those that lie beyond our capacity and our imagination. From time to time, when a piece of music no one has ever written or a painting no one has ever painted, or something else impossible to predict, fathom or yet describe takes place, a new feeling enters the world. And then, for the millionth time in the history of feeling, the heart surges and absorbs the impact.” Nicole Krauss, The History of Love

Moon, with your pale glowing face
look down on me tonight as I dream
Grant me the peace and serenity of a child
as I drift along the Milky Way's stream
Let my fingers brush the stars
and let a comet's warmth tease my heart
I'll hide my face among the clouds
only to drift in the emptiness of space, the dark
Cast out your light, soft as it may
and guide me to through the galaxies
let me find a place among your silence
a place where I can rest, where I am free
    Goodnight dear Moon
    and bright stars above
thank you for your glow tonight
    and your gentle, sleepy love

Stagnation. This is how I feel. Like an old man. I watch the world rush. Everything in black and white. And all grayscale in the mind. A "place" from which you can neither see the rainbow nor fit in the momentum of the movement, seeing the phases of the moon run away. And that's where the music is playing.

It's the last night. The clouds tell me this as they move across the sky. I look up through lace curtains that have been here for so long. I feel I knew them in childhood. Now they stir gently in the breeze. It's like a resuscitated dream that feels familiar, yet lies outside all time. I feel a bit unsure. Not scared... I actually welcome it. Come in. Lie next to me. Let's look at all those stars behind the skittish clouds. And as we do, tell me everything you need to say. Tell me that you're going to be okay. Tell me that we'll meet again, that we won't have any reasons for regret.

Just imagine, at the start of this piece, was a crying baby, exhausted by the world around him. As the music progresses, the baby stopped crying, with only wet cheeks and a relaxed face. As the music reached the cello part, the baby's eyes started to drop down, but he's doing his best to stay awake. He started having relaxed thoughts and surrendered to his own sleepiness. When the music finally reached it's ending, the baby was already snoring, not bothering the horrible things that was offered by this cruel world. The baby was in a calm state and he was finally laid to rest.
And no, this is not based on a true story. Just carry on, enjoy this beautiful musical piece.

What I like the most about Max Richter’s compositions is that they are simply, not to say primitive, they almost all contain a repetitive motif, nevertheless, it’s kind of magic in them that doesn’t allow you to stop to listen to them. I just seat enchanted and can’t even move.
