Mackinac Island, Michigan, Aug. 2023.

Mackinac Island sits in Lake Huron, between Michigan’s Upper and Lower peninsulas. For centuries, visitors have enjoyed this national treasure that’s home to historic Fort Mackinac, world-famous Mackinac Island fudge, and car-free streets full of horse-drawn carriages and bicycles. Mackinac Island State Park, with trails, woods, and the limestone Arch Rock formation, covers most of the island. And amazing flowers near each house on the island! There are 500 permanent residents on the island but in summertime, Mackinac Island attracts upwards of 1 million visitors. Plus, thousands of seasonal employees flock to Mackinac Island to work at the northern Michigan travel destination from spring through fall.
Since 1887, Grand Hotel has been a defining historic feature of Mackinac Island, it is home to 397 individually decorated rooms. Its porch is 660 feet long, and no other hotel in the world can match it. That includes relaxing in a rocking chair while enjoying stunning views of the Straits of Mackinac.
This expensive hotel is designed to cater to the needs of high-end clientele who are looking for luxury and exclusivity. Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, Gerald Ford, George H.W. Bush, and Bill Clinton have all experienced the elegance and unique atmosphere of the Grand Hotel.
We had a chance to have lunch in the Grand Hotel and explore the common areas and dining room with its exquisite decorations.
The Hallmark movie with Christopher Reeve "Somewhere in Time" was filmed at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in 1979; we watched this movie when we returned home from our trip to Mackinac Island.
