    I actually just transferred there this past fall. To everyone, its freakn amazing. I love every part of it (except a few minor things) but nevertheless all the professors I've had are awesome and super helpful. Don't listen to all the reddit naysayers. You make the best of what you have and I have done just that. From stargazing on the painted barrels to lounging at 12am on opers. Everything about this campus is awesome. Goodluck!

    This video is pretty accurate! First quarter is really about being out of your comfort zone. RCC is Environmental Studies themed so 10/10 would recommend for anyone who’s interested in that major or theme. Used to work at College 8 Cafe in RCC and it has the best ice cream and margarita sandwiches. Oaks Cafe is really good too. Lots of black outs in fall and winter bc of storms and being kind isolated on a hill. RCC has backup generators so if you’re worried about having no power, RCC is prepared. First rain naked run, 420, boardwalk trip. Great school

    The four years spent at UCSC were literally the best years of my life. The campus is amazing, student life is very individualistic, Greek life is low key as well as sports, so house parties would be this great microcosm of vastly different people having a good time. It’s overlooked because it has a reputation of party school but we don’t have a huge Greek life and we don’t do things like Picnic days so 🤷🏻‍♀️ Either way, college is what you make it. Good luck my future banana slugs 🍌🐌 I hope you all may return to campus soon!

    Not gonna lie, I am stumped, Of course I want to go to UCSC but b/c of Covid-19 idk if i can afford ONLINE classes that cost the same as regular classes and idk if I will get the same experience as if I were in an actual class. Thats why im debating about maybe going to a Community college.

    • @simlantis
      @simlantis  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      that honestly makes a lot of sense and i totally get where you are coming from i know ucsc hasn’t announced if fall quarter is going to be online or they’ve mentioned “blended learning” where lectures are online & section is in person. in general its a hard decision you could also potentially take a quarter off from ucsc and take classes at cc until online learning is over? not sure how this would all work but good luck on your decision !

    • @ashsalao9218

      you can also defer your admission, so guaranteed admission at a later time that works for you! i don't know too much about it, but i'd google it. i go to ucsc and im going to graduate next year. part of me wishes i saved hella money and went to cc buuut i wouldn't have met so many loved ones + my partner, plus it is beautiful to be in the forest and near the beach

    • @talyaisrael1644

      You can definitely take a leave of absence for a quarter and take lower division classes at a community college during fall. I would recommend checking out assist.org if you want to take classes at a community college, it shows what classes at what community colleges can count towards the different general education and major requirements at UCSC.

    • @zolanesbitt5447
      @zolanesbitt5447 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is my first year at UCSC and I loved it. This quarter has been completely online but I’ve had the best classes so far. With courses being online my Environmental Studies Water management course has brought in guest speakers from around the globe. I’ve had the opportunity to talk to a variety of professionals in the field and get advice first hand. Even though classes are online some teachers have made this a very enjoyable experience. But not all teacher are tech savvy and it can be painfully awkward on silent zoom calls during discussions. It’s totally up to your learning style, financial situation, and how prepared you to dedicate to a specific major.

    My dream school was UCSD but I got rejected, I was so surprised that I got into UCSC but a lot of people at my hs currently make me feel a little bad for not getting into more high ranking schools so I’ve just been feel really conflicted lately :(

    • @netisaway
      @netisaway ปีที่แล้ว +6

      First of all, congrats on UCSC! I’m sorry about the current predicament that you’re having. Honestly, getting into a UC in general is an immense achievement, “high ranking” or not. Sure, a lot of people push on about these ranks, but that’s only their agenda.
      I’ve also been rejected at UCSD but accepted to UCSC. Of course, my peers have added some pressure onto getting into “better” colleges. It has made me feel bad about myself, and it still sometimes affects me. However, think about it this way: You’ve made it. Just know that you don’t need to live up to the expectations of other people. Their opinions shouldn’t determine the enjoyment of your own successes. Even though these intrusive thoughts may lurk behind your mind, acknowledge that you should be proud of making it this far :D

      Hello, I'm planning on doing a pre dental track at ucsc, how are the bio classes at ucsc? Hard easy? How is the lifestyle? Are there similar minded people that prioritize academics? Thank you!😁

    • @davionpendleton9086
      @davionpendleton9086 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rcworks8947 Depending on your major and professor, the bio classes can suck or be a total breeze. For example, certain majors have to take the Bioe series which is evolutionary biology. I've heard that series is easier than the BioA series that I'm personally taking. A lot of the bio majors are similar especially within the first 2 years, but the main difference is the focus in your 3rd and 4th year on your upper division courses. I've heard microbio is easier in the third year compared to others, but of course, everything is subjective. I'd say research with RateMyProfessor.com and reddit can be helpful for finding more helpful/lenient professors.
      The lifestyle is ultimately what you make of it. In my opinion, there is definitely a placating atmosphere around UCSC. There are some partyers and some insane stuff happens sometimes, but I'd say it's all about who you surround yourself with. Kresge and Porter stereotypes are the druglords/hippies/ humanities majors. Oakes and Rachel Carson are all about peace, social justice, and the vibes are relaxed. Although you'll find a lot of people like me who are STEM and who enjoy it compared to 9/10. 9/10 are science-oriented and homes of a majority of the transfer students. It's more strict over there because they have campus patrol living in those dorms, but there are cool people everywhere. Cowell and Stevenson are known for being home of the frats and nights there are more lively than other colleges. Crown/Merril are seen as the most barren part of the campus.
      Usually they'll room you with people of the same interests, so if you put that you study a lot then they'll probably match you with someone of the same focus.
      You'll most likely find people in your classes, sections, living space, and library who are as driven as you. It's like high school, but you're living with them and the classes are bigger. Just look out for people like you would in high school. I'm sure you'll be fine.

    • @davionpendleton9086
      @davionpendleton9086 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mariaserrano2953 It truly depends on your pathway. I worked at Kaiser as a paid intern for my level 2 trauma department so I've gathered a bit of information on the different ways to get there. Maybe if I had more info on how?

    • @aegir3722

      Sorta depends what'a you're looking for If being active is important to you stevenson and cowell are sister colleges and are the closest to the gym so I hope I get placed there . The Porter college is popular for 4/20 because they have a campus medow that is nice to smoke pot at, but Idk. This is all from high school teachers some friends and reddit haha. Honestly, you'll make where ever you end up home. See ya on campus, good luck

      @simlantis  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i haven’t been to all the dorms so i couldnt tell you fully but from what i’ve heard the nicest and newest ones are the merrill ones and the c10/9 ones. any college can be social bc it more depends on you but i think the most social ones are cowell/stevenson & porter !

    • @coralrichardson5108
      @coralrichardson5108 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ive lived in Carson porter and kresge over the last two years and Carson is my favorite but it depends on the kind of people you wan to meet and the area that’s best for you. Stevenson, cowell and 9/10 are great locations and the most social. West side (Carson porter kresge Oakes) are really chill but the location is kind of inconvenient depending on your major and where the classes are.

    • @davionpendleton9086
      @davionpendleton9086 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I lived in RPAATH, which is in Stevenson for a few weeks before switching back to Oakes. I have friends in all of the different colleges (residence halls) so maybe I could be of assistance. :)
      It honestly depends on what you want out of the experience. They all have great things to offer except, honestly, I've heard merril and crown are the most quiet and bland colleges to attend from food to just being social.
      My rankings for food:
      Rachel Carson/ Oakes
      - good vibes. Great food. Friendly squirrels. Friendly atmosphere. Best area is dessert and fruit
      Stevenson/Cowell
      - great food as well with a larger area for sandwiches.
      9/10
      Has the largest food selection with great diversity in food types. Social area Not a lot of space. Often crowded.
      Crown/merril
      Pretty mediocre and average. Happy medium.
      Kresge/porter
      Not a fan of the food. The line for the dining hall goes down stairs. Not my favorite.

      I think both UCD and UCSC are very different (especially the campuses) so I would just weigh out the pros and cons of both schools for your major and see which campus experience entices you more! besides that good luck with your decision (-:

      @@jaloebeats I ended up at UCSC and I liked it- it’s a very unique campus, lots of eclectic people and beautiful nature views (campus is in the forest and lots of beautiful beaches) but the housing market is insane here and proven a big issue for many as it’s scarce and extremely expensive- ucsc overadmits students and Santa Cruz is small and isolated meaning there aren’t a lot of extra housing options. If you can get in the dorms and meet people to find housing with later though you should be fine!! I couldn’t imagine going to any other school :) I visited UCR and I’ll say that it was definitely not the school or vibe for me. It’s a commuter school and super boring campus without much to do around it. SJSU is also commuter but seems much more social and my sister enjoyed her time there. To me, UCSC is definitely the best option :)

    Hey! I was just wondering, how safe do you feel at ucsc as a woman?

    Idk if this is asking a lot, but if it isn't too much trouble can you post a need-to-know video on enrolling in UCSC classes?
    also I love watching your videos, they make me so excited to go to UCSC this fall (´。• ᵕ •。`)

      @@simlantis Actually the enrollment appointments start on June 18 (in one week) which is why I was hesitant to ask. I understand filming and editing a video may take weeks or days to prepare for so if you can't it's really okay ^_^

    Do you often smell pot around campus? Not asking to be judgmental or stereotype or anything but I'm just wondering. Also, there are plenty of people that don't do that kind of stuff, right?

      Being honest if its a friday/saturday night there is definitely parts of campus that will smell like pot!
