Your fuel tanker rake at 19:52 looks absolutely perfect !! .... So many modellers get this wrong by mixing different company logo wagons in the same consist. .... Spot on.
once it got to the Bachmann advert I was out . Bachmann have been driving up the prices for years , some of us cant afford it ! everything else was as precise and informative as usual . Cheers Dave
Hi Dave. Nice work on the Lino factory. You can run Tinsley as well as Eastfield railfreight sector class 47s as they regularly travelled to Scotland on Speedlink trains.
As soon as I seen the thumbnail I said to myself that's Nairn's Lino factory visible of course from many parts of the 'Lang Toon' good job looks very realistic.
Hi The Bachmann '47's look great, but way out of my Price range, I'd be looking for a second hand 47', but it's great to treat yourself once in while! Throughly enjoy your scratch build factory!
Absolutely amazing as usual, Dave. I really like the use of the engineering brick colour for the retaining wall as it helps to break up the scenery and looks very realistic in that context. The model of the linoleum works is testament to your exacting standards and I believe it will look fabulous once in situ. All the best. Simon.
Hi Dave New class 47 looks great but, unfortunately, you cannot fit snowplough and detail buffer beam. Really disappointed they did not address this. I am looking forward to how Bachmann 47 compares with Heljan new 47 both in details and cost. Love your videos and hope we might meet again at 2022 Model Rail Scotland. John
Another excellent update, Dave. I watch a lot of TH-cam and prominent TH-camrs but your content is definitely amongst those I look forward to the most. The Linoleum factory is looking excellent man! Gonna fit perfectly into that section of the layout. Brilliant.
Nice job on the Nairn building. Scratch building does take a bit of time. I have some buildings I have "thrown" together in short order but another that is still evolving after two years! The engineering brick arch retaining wall looks good - I especially like the lime mortar streaking you've done. Cheers
Nice work again Dave, so much time and detail put in for the most realism…can’t beat that, great job. Wall looks spot on and also a fan of the 47’s so win win all round, Regards, Chris
A fantastic update thanks for sharing. I am absolutely blown away but the linoleum, factory the attention to detail is stunning. The Bachmann class 47 looks extremely impressive not my era unfortunately and I am not sure I would pay the price
Great update dave nice to see you might have 2x new 47s but I’ll think you’ll find 47375 was painted up due to it been not only the depot name sake but our depot pet and that paint job was done for Crewe open day at basford hall yard but yes great update I’ll be having 3 new 47s Dave at Tinsley tmd take care 👍
Building's tower maybe to allow for lifting facility raw materials, finished product. Many old buildings have lift sheds on the roof to house cable reels etc
Very interesting update Dave. You always go the extra mile with detail. I tend to go for the blue locomotives with yellow ends so I may buy one of those. My current favourite 47 is the boxed special edition (with a steam engine) with union jack on the sides. I do like the sound versions. PS I like Heljan models. I have six.
Great update I like the new scratch build you have done a fantastic job on it a building to be proud of. Bachmann's new class 47s look pretty nice I might get the intercity one if the budget allowes it.- Nicholas.
Enjoyed watching that, Dave. Well done on the lino factory: it's looking great. I remember when used to nick McDonalds straws for that sort of pipework! At around 6:55 you mention picking out the edges of the window vents with silver to give an impression of the metal showing through: I picked up a great tip from a German model railway youtube channel (Sebb ́s 1zu87): he uses a graphite pencil to run sparingly over painted "metal" to show where the paint's worn away, and the base metal shows through. Seems to work really well, so could be worth a go?
Having past the factory on you modelled this on, on Tuesday I wondered how you were getting on with it. Lo and behold an update came out. The factory looks great very similar. Great update as usual Dave. Cheers.
Good video there Dave, thanks. Your scratch building has always been good, but I feel that you've taken it to the next level with the lino factory (part one). Looking forward to seeing what part two looks like now. That 86 is a nice loco too, and I always feel that weathering a loco always really adds something to it as well. I'm not sure that I would ever be brave enough to try it though, given how much locos cost these days!
Cheers Kevin. I’m really proud of that build. I like to push myself to do new features and while it looks a fairly simple build, it was a real challenge to get it all looking as it should. I don’t rush and throw things together so Im really chuffed. Part 2… and 3,4 and maybe 5 and 6 will take shape over the weeks, months and years. Part 3 will be a bigger build. But I need a rest from scratch builds for a few weeks :-) I’m mentally involving. Cheers.
And that’s a factory weather class 86. The weathering isn’t that great. I agree, I’m. It sure in brave enough yet either considering the prices of them!
Great presentation dave, regarding the class 47, i shall look at getting the br blue sound version, but its such a shame bachmann go to the level of interior detail but dont fit a driver. 👎
Impressive Modelling as always.... I wondered about the symmetry of the build, but still great. Would of thought the staff room would of been easily identified by the extra windows. Another guess would be the tower is a lift shaft of sorts. Thank u for another masterclass
Hi, thanks. This large building in real life is a pure heavy manufacturing building, so I would doubt a staff room etc would appear in it. Nairn’s actually had a very large purpose built canteen/staff room on their vast sight. Cheers. Dave
If I get a new bachmann 47, I'd go all out. However, the money is way too much for me right now. I'm struggling with paying more than £120 for a standard model, yet the standard one of these is twice that. Unsure of the livery, might go with swallow too since my only swallow loco is my 91.
Ithumbs up for the cab bulkhead detail and engine room lights slong with better dcc functionality......but they are pricey. Id have been happy with the old tooling being improved with these features. The differences elsewhere seem hard to pick out.
I can see you like snowploughs on the locos running on your splendid layout. Would they still be fitted in late summer (stated theme period) or removed and kept at the service centre?? Hi, up here in Scotland they tended just to keep the ploughs on. No sooner would they take them off in spring than they’ve have to put them on again In Autumn.
Hi Dave firstly the new scratch building looks really good, as always you've done a first class job. As for the new class 47s I'm also tempted by the Swallow livery deluxe version. I understand that they are expensive and lots of people are having a moan but my thoughts are that if you want one then we have got time to save up for it, as I have with my accurascale pre orders. Having said that I'll only be getting the one. Enjoyable watch again atb Andy
Just another comment .... This time on the Class 86 at 36:12 ... The head-code looks wrong as the numbers and letters are way to thin. ... They should be slightly thicker, and the prefix 1 should be centralised on the rolling blind - not set to the outside edge !! ... The side profile at 36:31 also looks terrible. .... Let's hope this is a prototype error and they improve these details before it is available to purchase ?
Great Vid Dave. In terms of the new 47 I am looking forward to it. I’m mostly looking at waiting for Bachmann to release more modern liveries for the 47 in later years before I get one however I could get the intercity one as 47828 is a preserved one that’s still running today
Great update there Dave the building is looking Great and is really coming along, can’t wait to see it finished and in place on the layout. I don’t really mind locomotives that have had the white colour treatment like that triple grey class 47, I’m not really one for weathering my locomotives because I like them to be in pristine condition but when I have a locomotive that is weathered weathered I don’t want it to be overdone, I actually like locomotives that have been treated to white paint on certain parts of the locomotive because it makes them stand out more and and it’s something different, I’m also likely to keep it in that condition, I have recently painted the wheels and certain parts of the bogie on my silver fox class 89 kit because I saw a photo of it in that condition. The new bachmann 47 will be a great model when it gets to the market, as for the price it is very expensive but at the end of the day if people have been asking for features like the feature on the cab windows and moving fans they have no right to complain about the price because they have wanted those features to be included as standard, if they don’t like the price they have other options to them but at the end of the day they are missing out on the features that they have wanted for years, you can’t please everyone and in all honesty some people just love to have a moan about something. If I ever have the money available I may treat myself to one, if they do a virgin livery in the future I think that is the one I may go for. The heljan 86 also looked really good and being an AC electric fan myself I will probably get hold of one at some point, not sure what livery I would go for at the moment.
Dave, the real 47 windscreen was much the same, depending on what angle you seen it from, I think this is a good modification from bachmann. Back in the day of the old Hornby 47, I used correcteen fluid for typing, but it stayed a purple - pink colour instead of two tone. Ps love the new building, top marks
Great video as usual. The factory looks fantastic as does the retaining wall. The 86 does look good, however there’s something about the cab windows that doesn’t look right to me. Could just be the angle of the view when you filmed it.
As a veteran WCML driver that 86 still doesn’t look right in br blue windscreens look too big! The 86/6 looked ok be interested to see how the 86/4 looks
Westhill and SMS have evolved into serious players, just by listening to what people want and keeping the quality high. Fair play to them both.👍 On the other hand, we now have an 86 that can't couple to anything without modifications being made - not really "ready to run" then?🤔 As for the operational fans on the 47: they've maybe got this one right. I don't think many folk will want to pay for an extra motor, so only putting this feature on the top-end model might be the right move. At least you get the choice/option. The cab detail will look great, if the lights are on but, as you say, will anyone really notice? Your Nairn factory really looks the part Dave, a lot of work but time well spent. Are you planning "Nairn's" signage, or are you going to personalise it? "Dean Park Dave's Shiny Flooring Co Ltd" has a ring to it but makes for a pretty long sign.😁 A very enjoyable, varied update. Surprised you don't have more subs. They will come though; Dean Park is becoming one of the better layouts on YT - Well done.👍😁
I would think a film maker like yourself might be able to get a bit of good footage from the loco cab detail, lit up before driving off, and some shots of the rotating fans. Not sure the average buyer will though.
Hiya Dave am lookin to get into building ma own layout but have limited space as I have a tiny room I have an idea for my first loco (hornby Eurostar) but idk where to start
It is weathered…. The lighting and camera (which lightens it further) don’t show up the grime and streaking as much as there actually is. I also explained the level of weathering due to the use of it in real life
As usual, stunning Dave. Attention to detail, should be your middle name. Truly mind numbing the lengths you go to. I bet the more fluent Scottish comes out when your building, painting the finer details. Is that build of the Lino factory based on the one that used to stink out Kirkcaldy? I also share your passion on 47s, the Intercity and 2 tone grey look amazing and the Banger blue livery looks more authentic. Not my money to spend but if I could spend your money, not that a Scotsman would give his money up without a fight lol, the 2 tone grey would be my choice of 47. 47004 as you already know had a spell in the early 80s at ED, apparently it was unofficially named Monster but it may have been BR Blue then. Though I stand to be corrected on that, I'm not totally sure. However Many thanks for sharing though Dave. Keep up the fine work.
Excellent video Dave. That factory looks awesome. As a newbie to this railway modelling would a release of a newly tooled Class47 impact the second hand price of an old version?
Thanks I’m not sure it will… as the current 47 is excellent and highly desirable. It also came in one off liveries or specifically named locos that are unlikely to be reproduced by Bachmann going forward. The new one is over £200 for the base model, which is out of reach for many modellers. So I still think the current model will be popular. Plus!… the new one looks extremely similar to the old one! So modellers won’t be selling off their current models to replace them with the all new ones!
I think you have made a great job of copying the finer details on the factory like the brick pillar at the corner of the railings. Things like that make a lot of difference to the end result. The class 47 looks good. The windows always something I noticed about them and the Peak having a blue colour, but not sure about the price, when running on a layout you are not going to notice anything different over the old version. For a loco depot layout where it is parked up with the cab lights on it may be worth the extra cost so I would have to think hard about buying one. The class 86 on the other hand I will buy, I like the smooth running motors they use and have found their other locos to be very reliable. I rather have something that works well with a little less fine detail than a loco costing far more with detail I am not going to see. The tool boxes and tools look great. That kind of detail I do like to add to my buildings and a detailed lit workshop by the lineside adds a focal point when there is no train passing.
Great video as always Dave, Retained walls ... i half inched some off from a layout clearance on one section - for the part of my diesel repair/ long term maintenance shed section whereas the electric shed end goes for a newer look retained wall - the Class 47, hmmm, it looks nice enough, i was more interested in the Heljan Class 86 ... I am a bit disappointed Bachmann have not pushed on with the readying the next releases for the Class 90 having had the 3/4 releases and then nothing for eighteen months - hopefully, they'll have this on their workbench, dealing with the discrepancies in time for Christmas maybe but DB / EWS next please Bachmann :-) Kat@johnsonstreetIEMD
Hi Dave agreat video mate I really injoy it every the heljan class86/0 electric locos are great but that do not have the jumper box's and leads for working in pairs I have been takeover to Justin ar sms to see if he can make them for me I have 5 heljan class86/9 on my layout I would like to work them on my freightliner trains in pairs stay safe and well mate goodbye for how clive in N Ireland

Without understatement this is World class stuff.
You are far too kind. I’m so thrilled you think my work is good. :-) thank you. Dave
Great update as always Dave. Those 47s look good but what a price! Thanks for sharing. Roy.
Awesome update Dave!! Thanks for sharing. Cheers Onno.

it is very enlightening,

Great update I like the new scratch build you have done a fantastic job on it a building to be proud of. Bachmann's new class 47s look pretty nice I might get the intercity one if the budget allowes it.- Nicholas.
Nice little Nairn Flooring sign could break up to plain look to the factory. Unless that is the look you are going for, of course.
Cheers. This particular building doesn’t have a sign on it, but my Nairn factory complex will have a bit of signage in time. :-)
Cracking Video Dave!, love the intro great to finally see the factory come together!
Enjoyed watching that, Dave. Well done on the lino factory: it's looking great. I remember when used to nick McDonalds straws for that sort of pipework! Retaining wall looks ace Dave!
I like the look of the new 47. I would love an Inverness version in large logo with the stag logo. Great update.
Yeah that would be great, or a scotrail red stripe one with highland rail emblem.
Cheers. Dave
@@DeanPark sorry I forgot this was a copy style ??? model. thanks for your reply

Yeah I’ll save up and treat myself with the first ‘new’ 47 I get. But can’t see me buying loads at £203-£314, with prices going up every six months!
Ithumbs up for the cab bulkhead detail and engine room lights slong with better dcc functionality......but they are pricey.
Id have been happy with the old tooling being improved with these features. The differences elsewhere seem hard to pick out.
Yeah the external difference is minimal.
Your layout is amazing
I can see you like snowploughs on the locos running on your splendid layout. Would they still be fitted in late summer (stated theme period) or removed and kept at the service centre??
Suggestion: The new grass area to the left of the station has no wire underneath but lots of storage potential, how about a few hinged flap doors cut into the vertical ply facia?
Hi, up here in Scotland they tended just to keep the ploughs on. No sooner would they take them off in spring than they’ve have to put them on again In Autumn.

Just another comment .... This time on the Class 86 at 36:12 ... The head-code looks wrong as the numbers and letters are way to thin. ... Interesting. I’ve not really studied the head code versions so didn’t spot the lettering issues. :-)
Great Vid Dave. In terms of the new 47 I am looking forward to it. I’m mostly looking at waiting for Bachmann to release more modern liveries for the 47 in later years before I get one however I could get the intercity one as 47828 is a preserved one that’s still running today

Thanks again Dave…. I just don’t know where you get your patience from to make your fantastic scratch builds…
I have patience, but delays in getting the job done drove me mental with this one. Lockdown, delays with railings etc.
Cool. Not sure how the glazing will look scaled down in model form though. We shall see.
Great video Dave .I've got 47 375 on order ..It's a model I've been hoping they would produce .😊
Dave please can you do a video showing how to paint the engineers blue brick?
I’ll try do something when I’m building my 3m section of it. I’ll be working on that in the autumn.
Brilliant thank you I look forward to it as always great work so far mate should be very proud of yourself
Great video as usual. The factory looks fantastic as does the retaining wall. The 86 does look good, however there’s something about the cab windows that doesn’t look right to me. Could just be the angle of the view when you filmed it.

No idea. Possibly.

Cheers. Yeah they ought to get more of their 90’s and also class 158’s out!
