AT 1:06:31, I believe that 2nd peak from the right is King Kong peak (from the movie shot on Kauai) . You can see King Kong's profile. You have a close-up of it again at 1:06:47. We spent Christmases on Kauai for many, many years. We stayed with friends who lived on the North Shore on Wainiha Powerhouse Road. The road is on the way to Ke'e Beach where you started on the Kalalau Trail. The green woven cordage you found on top the Sleeping Giant is actually a sacred maile lei. The old Hawaiian Kahuna's (priests) used to bind a married couple's hands together with a maile lei as a symbol of their union. It remains as a symbol of love and respect to this day, and is very hard to obtain because of the remoteness of where the plants are found. One year we were hiking on one of the muddy trails up to a small waterfall and pool, and we ran into actor Drew Barrymore and a friend coming back down. The road to the trail was really a muddy 4WD road, but Drew tried to drive it in one of the rental convertible passenger cars available on the island. Don't know if she made it. We passed her slipping and sliding around on our way out. Another of our friends lived on a completely private beach (Pila'a), also on the north shore. They were totally off the grid, and they had to have a 4WD truck to get there. The coral reef directly in front of their house was one of the finest, most pristine in the world and a fabulous diving and snorkeling spot. No one else had access to it. A greedy developer moved on top of a cliff overlooking one end of the beach and decided to bulldoze the top off the cliff for a housing development. Right after he bulldozed, one of those monstrous Kauai rainstorms came along and washed all the exposed mud down the cliff and onto the coral reef. Caused a huge environmental disaster and unending lawsuits because it killed off most of the live coral and associated sealife. There is a seamy underside to Kauai as well, which you didn't mention. That being said, it is relaxing by-and-large, and beautiful. Unbeatable seafood. Finally, for those still reading this comment, the secret to negotiating those muddy trails are rubber boots called jika-tabi walkers. They are Japanese in origin and have a split between the big toe and the second toe, an elastic top, and thick wool felt soles, perfect for walking in mud and gripping slippery boulders. You can buy them at any fishing/camping supply place on Kauai. We each have a pair, and they are probably 25 years old.
Right you are about the mountain! That's cool, thank you for sharing :) That's also good to know about the maile leis. It definitely felt significant finding one at the top of Sleeping Giant. Also, wow, that's cool you met Drew Barrymore! The friend with the coral reefs near their home sounds interesting. That's such a shame about the developer... I've heard similar things often happen on the west coast - people will build expensive houses up on cliffs that get washed away easily. Also, the jika-tabi look awesome, that would be really interesting to hike in. I'm surprised I never noticed them at the stores. Thank you so much for your comment - that was really interesting!
Incredible notification. Amazing. Location scouts hopefully received awards for that inclusion. And thanks for sharing that. 🐸🐵🦧
Just fyi there are no private beaches on Kauai, unfortunately some people try to make their beach access inaccessible (I’m not saying ur friends did so) but if someone can get to it, technically can use it. I live on Kauai. Thanks!
@@lindaannm1 Thanks for the info. I believe the keyword, as always, is "technically". Depends on how much stink-eye or worse one is prepared to deal with. lol
@@AdventureArchives The green cordage is actually a Ti leaf lei. Different plant and look than the maile. Thought you might appreciate knowing. Great video and mahalo for sharing!
It's nice to go trekking in the wild with a botanist like Andrew .You learn alot
Growing up in Hawaii, I always felt like God was hugging me, but living on the mainland for over 30 years now, your words at the end are so true... people can live Aloha spirit anywhere, they need only try.
Thanks so much for your comment, Melissa! Glad someone who grew up there agrees :)
I am enjoying watching these young people go to the places we were too old to navigate by the time of our first trip to Kauai! I am happy to see these areas up close! Thank you!😊
We live here on Kauai - after loosing our home in California wildfire in 2020 ... you have captured perfectly the beauty, MAGIC and pure light of this magic isle.
Definitely THE best video I've seen about Hawaii
Canopy shyness. Freaking awesome! This is my new favorite natural phenomenon.
Nerd 😏
We agree!!!
Fantastic message at the end
Keep hawaii hawaiian 👌🤙🏽
United States should return the island’s back to the Hawaiian people. The right thing to do is return the rule back to the native Hawaiian people.
What an adventure! Those conditions though were crazy for hiking can't believe you hiked through it, really like this style of sharing an adventure almost like a tv show
Thank you so much! Yeah, it was pretty wild. Kind of fun though to hike through it, haha. Thanks for watching!
"So ready to go home!" - I spent 30+ days on four islands and I was extremely sad to leave.
I've been to Hawaii so many times and i can say, I always find myself going to Kauai more then the other islands. I don't know why but i always fall in love with that island more and more each time.
Excellent episode! Although I’m a patreon, I was just able to watch it today, decided to do it on the living room at glorious 4K and soon enough my 89 year old grandma, Ema, joined me until the end!! she can’t understand english but she was worried about your shoes in the mud and was super impressed with the sunset and the stars, you have a new fan as I’m going to ask her to join me on all future episodes, thank you and greetings from Chile!!
Thank you so much for your kind words! That sounds like such a nice day, and tell your grandma thanks for watching too :) Cheers! -Andrew
You guys turning that bumpy car ride into a spaceship taking evasive action is the content I subscribe for.
Every New episode is like opening a Christmas gift. lol
I love Hawaii! And Kauai is my 1 favorite island. We spent our honeymoon here in 2003.
I had the privilege to see all the islands when I stayed in Hawaii for almost a year. 🙂
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤there are paradises in all of us…
Side note:
Avoid messing with touch sensitive plants, the action of closing and opening requires a lot of energy for them.
The stroopwafel made a huge smile on my dutch face

Robby: This is kinda sweet (referring to bao)
Thomas: Like you.
That look of gay panic at the camera hahaha
IS orange man from the countryside?
Thomas was fire in this video, this is one of their best videos ever!
...I'd ship Robbie and Thomas...
Yeah, they cute.
@@holyg33z Thomas made me laugh at least 4 times in the video!
lol! can't stop laughing ...
Hawaii is one of my favorite places on Earth. It opens my heart every time I visit. Thank you for sharing and opening a portal for us. 💚
Thank you for sharing this beautiful beautiful high quality filmed video!!! I have visited Kauai and absolutely fell in love. Finding your TH-cam has been so valuable to me, thank you so much!🥰🥰🥰
This was much much needed after last week! I'm a horticulture student so i absolutely adore all of the plant information, those bits are some of my favorite parts (well besides all the rest). Also, it's totally worth watching all the way to the end!!
I feel like I found hiking buddies. thanks for the wonderful videos
I had no idea there was scenery like this in Hawaii! I love how you are intrigued by the flora and fauna! That is the detail I find interesting. Thanks so much, you. Are very admirable young people
Amazed how much plant knowledge this guy has
Idk how you guys aren't over a. Million subs. Love your stuff.
Awesome. Professional quality like always.
Stunning views ..enjoyed this 😊look forward to more
Omg. Exciting to watch this! I miss Hawaii!
Anytime your on an island expect unexpected rain all day or sporadicly it’s to refresh the island being tropically hot & warm 🏝🌺🌦🌊
Loved the vid like always guys! Looked like an awesome adventure.
I am a recent subscriber. I find the music and narative to be spot on! Combined with the humor and optimistic outlook each of you seem to have in our crazy world. Your videos are a perfect way to calm this busy world. Never doubt that what you do impacts people in a much deeper way than simple entertainment. Thanks so much!!
Thank you so much for your comment! That means a lot to us, and it's always very humbling and inspiring to hear people feel affected by our videos. Thanks for subscribing, and thank you for watching :)
Shared adventure. I felt like I was on the hikes with you guys. It's almost 20 years since I visited Kauai, and some of the places you went to. I liked that you guys were knowledgeable about plants, and fruits, and flowers, and weather, and culture, and also enjoyed eating broad ranging meals and drinks. Hiking those trails and mountains is hard, but you guys made it seem pleasant and enjoyable.
Unfortunately it didn't seem like you interacted with any locals. I heard you say things like the people who live there are laid-back. You guys got to do activities and visit and explore more of the island than most of the locals probably do because they are busy working and struggling to survive. Visiting versus working/living on Kauai are at opposite ends. It's not really fun to be working in a place where others come to relax, party, eat like crazy, spend money like crazy, and do all kinds of fun and exciting things.
I've lived and worked in Hilo, Hawaii, and other nice destinations in the US and Europe. It's always been an inner struggle watching visitors have a great time in a vacation spot while I'm too busy working and not enjoying it like they are.
Great video. I really enjoyed it.
I've been on Kauai three times (I'm from Denmark, so it takes 30+ hours to get there) and I'm planning on going there soon. Best place I've ever been..
Amazing video. Love Kauai so much. A gem of a place.
Awesome adventure. Thanks for sharing!
You guys are the most talented group of TH-cam channels. I’ve said it before. The videography, photography, narration, banter on each trip & experience, you’re humor, philosophy, perfecto editing & the music. Oh the music is spectacular. You definitely have you’re own unique original sound & each instrumental piece is a custom sound for each video you create. Have you thought about putting together a sound track combining you’re music of each video? You should. I love you guys. You’re so down to earth & a pure joy to follow you’re recorded trips & hikes. What a wonderful life you guys are living. It’s obvious that you work very hard in between you’re adventures. Blessings to each of you 💖
Hi
Just the food made this trip worth it !!!

Another awesome video guys. This place is just incredible, what a stunning place... you can feel the uniqueness and the history of that place just from watching the video, so incredible. Great job guys, my favorite channel on TH-cam! Mahalo.
Oh this was a good video of Kauai. Loved your adventure and your knowledge of botany. So different then the other videos I have watched about Kauai.
I love the rain the smell must have been amazing
Watching this at home during Covid....did those trails a few years ago and it’s bringing back memories....
Yes,be positive always
Wow!!!!aws views
"Heaven on Earth". So very accurate.
:D
Another beautiful video ❤thanks 😊
I'm an old timer. My 1st time to Kauai there was no terminal and you deplaned on the tarmac. You walked over to some benches and the baggage handlers just drove your luggage to you and you just grabbed it off the trailer. The Kalalua trail was still relatively unknown and even more narrow and dangerous but awesome! Polihale is one of my favorite places there and was a locals only beach back then. In summer the sand there and at neighboring Barking Sands beach gets extremely hot and will burn your feet. Did you hear the barking as you walked through the sand? Sure it's getting crowded but what a beautiful place. As a fellow tree and plant lover it never gets old. Thanks for bringing back such great memories! My favorite Hawaiian island! You can still find some solitude over on Molokai if you know where to look. Mahalo!
Thanks so much for your comment! That's all really interesting. I never noticed the barking, but now I wish I could go back and check again. Maybe I'll have to review the footage. Glad we got to bring back some memories, and thanks so much for watching!
Stationed at Kekaha at the Naval Missile base 1961-1964. Barking Sands was the neatest beach around I thought, you could hear the dogs barking as the waves slapped down upon the beach. The Island had less tourists back then, but a beautiful Island to be on, had lot's of fun on Kauai.
Aloha guys/gal.....I just saw your beautiful video as I had my breakfast. I too have been to Kauai but have not gone hiking there so this was just amazing to watch! Absolutely beautiful! I love the final phrase where you say that Paradise should be anywhere you would want it to be.
I enjoyed the respect you had for it all, for the Hawaiian culture, the land, it's people and everything in between, especially coming from young folks like your selves. Stay well and Aloha from Waikiki Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i USA
Great video. Thank you for all your videos.
Awesome video as always guys!
I really really enjoyed watching this epic journey, thanks for taking us along! Aloha! 💚

enjoyed, thanks
your video is so inspiring!! thank you so much!
Amazing job you guys!! My favorite place on earth!
Mahalo for sharing!
I liked it! Thanks guys 🖤
You really hit it home with your final thoughts. I think so few visitors (at least not enough) come to that realization.
Your reflection at the end of the video is beautiful and perfect. If it is one thing you take from the garden island, let it be the aloha spirit you can reflect towards others in your daily life in your actions, thoughts and words. This special island has been a life changer for me too.
Stunning video really enjoyed Paradise thank you
