  • It can be so easy to be hard on ourselves - to focus on our perceived flaws and shortcomings. But mistakes are a natural part of the human experience. When we use forgiveness to move past those mistakes responsibly, we can start to encourage ourselves, cherish our achievements, and let go of that relentless pursuit of perfection.
    And when we take the time to acknowledge the younger version of ourselves - the one who faced all of life's pressures head-on - that can have a truly profound impact.
    In my Wednesday Meditation and Talk from April 24, I talked about Forgiving Yourself, and Encouraging Yourself.
    Some key points that I covered are:
    - Cultivating a spacious, accepting presence allows you to simply be, without judgment or striving, which is what we meditated on here: • A Meditation on Open A...
    - You can learn how to recognize and cherish the victories in your life, no matter their size.
    - Forgiving ourselves can liberate us from the shackles of past mistakes, while still taking responsibility and striving for repair.
    - The importance of nurturing your spirit with kindness and understanding through every stage of life.
    - Insights into the Zen and Chan perspectives on finding peace in the present moment.
    - Tips on combining open awareness and concentration practices to foster an open heart and alleviate negative emotions.

    I've been following along with your talks for about a year now and found them insightful, enjoyable and full of wisdom. However this one really stands out as extraordinary; it is a truly sublime reflection on life. Thank you.

    I'm grateful for your offerings;
    And I admire the work that you and your son offer to us.
    70 years old with a lifetime of failures and bad decisions; but still tryna make the best of it and whatever time is left.
    Thank you, Rick 🙏

    "We're humans, we're animals, we're a mess". Truer words were never spoken my friend. ♥️

    Wonderful exercise. Thank you for this decade-at-a-time reflection of self-forgiveness. May I carry this connection of forgiveness of the past, forward into the future. Thank you 🙏🏼

    What’s profound about this Talk is the recognition of our fear of time. Bands such as decades that hold so much expectation - but here, spaces of reflection upon our progression/struggles. I am so deeply grateful for this Talk. The decades that were marred by shame, striving, deaths, sobering financial falls, parenting decisions… it’s so easy to sees these as a totality. I will use this as my practice for quite some time. 🙏🏼

    I think I have a hard time walking “the middle path.” When something, like a practice, has the potential to lessen my stress / suffering, I tend to become rigid and can quickly develop expectations about how I should act, feel and relate to others. These demands can cause striving which can lead to more stress! 😅
