Metal Detecting A Long Deep Cut In The Beach

  • This is long and boring. My first time using new GoPro camera, I don't quite have the hang of it yet. I didn't have my scoop, so had to use a shovel.
    My arm rest broke off early on, had to strap the broken cuff around my arm to keep detecting. Never realized how difficult it is to use without the arm rest.
    I created this video with the TH-cam Video Editor because I had no other way to do it.

    Chris,
    Something to "HELP" your broken cuff that works well if the dealer warranty fails:
    Most building supply (Home Depot) type stores have "specialty" cabinets filled with stainless, brass, and "nylon nuts,bolts, etc. Ask them for a 5/16 or 3/8 inch carriage bolt, nut, and washer in NYLON. It's very strong, non-metalic, and handles colder weather well. For a couple bucks and a simple task you can be back up to speed. Drilling a hole to marry up the pieces is easy, however I suggest first using a smaller than required bit to pilot the hole for easy placement. At least you'll be up and running immediately if the dealer has to order parts.
    Hope this helps you ~ Outlaw ~

    So much better when the viewer can hear what you are hearing and learn how to do it, unlike some of the other videos!

    Not so boring. It is nice to watch you detect in real conditions. Not so easy to get out a nice target from the sand. Black sand, lead...means GOLD. I am in France and get a E-Trac as well.

      John David It wasn't too bad that day, in the 30s. I put hand warmers in my gloves, otherwise my hands would be numb. Hope you're doing well. Thanks for watching.

    Thank goodness I always had my scoop. If I had to do a long stretch like that with just a shovel I would have gone mad! At least you had the pin pointer still to save some time. Nice finds though. Got to love those cuts. Just a treasure chest waiting to be opened. Sucks about the cuff. I broke one on my ACE 250 once and did it ever make a difference.

      It's almost impossible to swing it without the arm cuff. I just strapped the whole piece around my arm under the detector, it was still hard to swing but I had no other way to fix it. Thanks for watching.

      I tried using tape on mine when it broke, but just still bended right where the tape was. Fortunately I was able to get a replacement from Garrett for nothing. Hopefully you can reach out to the manufacture as well and see what happens.

      McQ 02 I think mine is still under an extended warranty from the dealer so I'll try that, otherwise I'll just buy a new one. I'm gonna try to rig something up temporary so I can use it in the meantime.

    That arm strap on the E trac is well known for breaking and coming off the buckle. I don't understand why Minelab wont fix this ongoing problem. Nice hunt,

    • @DetectingMetal
      @DetectingMetal  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Allan Douglass I fixed mine for the time being with a fender washer. I'm still going to replace it anyway. The strap is way too short. Probably better off just rigging your own strap through the slots or getting an aftermarket cuff. Thanks for the comment.

    Great hunt, that ring looked sweet. I broke my arm cuff also (Etrac) Minelab wants $30 for a replacement, I ordered a Jeff Herke aluminium one. He's on ebay $48, seller name is jeffthga. To fix yours get a large washer to cover that hole and screw it back on. :) HH & GL, Dan

    • @DetectingMetal
      @DetectingMetal  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wormkiller Dan The Minelab cuff strap is way too short. Mine's extended all the way and it's still a tight squeeze if you have a jacket on. That's why mine broke. I saw Coinazoid's vid on the Jeff Herke one, it looks much better. I may buy that if I can't get it replaced under warranty. That's a good tip with the washer, I'm gonna try that. Gonna bring a bigger strap with me in case that fails too. Thanks for watching.

    You can date the old glass coke bottles by the number on the bottom. There should be a 2 digit number which is the year it was made. Typically 40's-60's in the clear bottles. Not worth a whole lot I believe, or at least I have gotten lucky picking up many for cheap along the way. I've heard there are a few valuable ones out there, but I can't recall which ones.

    • @DetectingMetal
      @DetectingMetal  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      McQ 02 I know most of them aren't worth a whole lot. This one was marked NY on the bottom, don't remember the numbers. Thanks for watching.

    • @McQ02
      @McQ02 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found so many out and about I finally just made a couple sets of them. The wooden crates from that time if you see them are pretty good money though. Hopefully not refinished or repainted as well. You might have a hot spot for bottles on your hands there. Always worth the recycling money if nothing else.

    • @DetectingMetal

      3greatgreyhounds3 Whatever your personal preference is. I like parks just because there's usually more targets, but they both can be good or bad.

    Isn't that sad. Minelab is one of the best detectors out there, yet paying almost $1500 for that ETrac, you get cheap plastic arm cuffs that break off like that. Makes me wary about buying Minelab.
