So personally, I feel, u being raw is exactly what is needed. It may be tough love, but it is real love and honesty you're providing as a great brother would and should . There's that saying, "If u do the crime, u must do your time". This is sort of like this situation, except here, your crime is that u let the new shiny thing that just walked into your life with hope and promise, drown out your inner consciences voice until u can no longer hear it. Then slowly it dawns on u, that u lost far more than u thought, u lost u. So sometimes the only way back is to hear the real truth, no matter how ugly , shameful or even painful it is.
