@@edmalone1181 I'm 5 11 and I've got the 18.5. You should be fine on it. It's a large. I've put 150mm forks on and it's the best bike I've ever ridden. I went to a demo day and I honestly wouldn't have swapped it for any of the bikes I tried out.
I have that same Dropper Post on my Remedy and it performs great in all conditions. Saw mutiple droppers of friends bikes break throughout the winter, but the Bontrager one had 0 issues.
I had the same experience with my Bonty dropper.... it performs as it should when i need it to. Everyone i ride with is always fiddeling or troubleshooting their dropper post. Its amazing how much this dropper post has been worry free for almost 2 yrs now.
Switch the geo to 67.0 deg head angle, and it will go most anywhere you have the skills to go. Taller riders (> 6 ft) will want to get on the nose of the saddle for steep seated climbing due to short chainstays and slack seat tube (esp. in the 67 deg HA configuration).
Great review - thank you. I’ve ridden the EX 9.8...loved it. I’m deciding between that bike at the Yeti SB100 which I haven’t ridden but my buddy swears is better than cold beer - How would you highlight the key differences?
im confused sounded like the longer fork offset was a positive? everyone else is shortening the offset given a larger trail figure. id prefer the stablility of a shorter offset.
I have just invested in this bike and love it I’m 90kg and it handles well .....I really can hammer it downhill and it climbs well. It’s a good all round bike and I’m stoked ....got it for just over 3000 in Australian dollars ...yes new He complained about the dropper post being sluggish ....hmmm mine works fine
You running a pike 140 in the front and a 130mm shock in the rear? Whats your suspension setup? Im on an 18 with the 34 float 130mm fork and fox 130mm rear. Would like to get a bigger pike 140 or 150mm on the front but dont want to mess up my geometry.
Hello , I’m looking forward to purchasing a 2019 Ex. an older gentleman is selling it and it’s well maintained. Is it worth it ? He’s selling it for 2300
Why doesnt any channel explain what the degree numbers mean? Like are you more sitting forward? versus...what and why? What is slack? what does short chain stay mean? its like every review is aimed at people that live in this industry. As someone looking to see the real life differences I havnt found one review relevant.
You shouldn't put a 150 fork on as it will void the Trek warranty (max is 140mm), and will also slacken the seat tube too much. People have done it, but there are better bikes for that. I have an EX8 2019 and I changed the 130mm fork air shaft out for a 140mm version and it was a nice upgrade. The 2017 version has the same frame and came out as a 27.5+ version with a 140mm fork, so it seems to be possible.
I've just built one. Slx & xt 1x11 group set, xt m8000 brakes and brand x dropper. It's only got rockshox rebas on but I took it out yesterday for its first outing and it's amazing. Best bike I've ever ridden. Only cost me £1100 to build as well. Absolute bargain

I can't decide between this bike and remedy, but I think this bike is more for cross country, there’s so much different between the 130 of this and 150 mm of remedy? Thanks
Saúl Goyas the Remedy has 27,5 inch wheels. I own the Fuel EX8 an its a lot of bike for its money. I ride really hard terrain and the suspension has enough travel. Maybe not for big jumps in bikeparks. But its possible if this is only because i have 110kg. I would say if you ride in bikeparks often go for the remedy, if not go for the fuel ex. 29 inch wheels are very good for all terrains.
@@matthewking4678 Hard to say but my riding style coming from a dirtbike is leaning the bike over, staying upfront while keeping my weight up top. They arent a super aggressive tire. But they hold up for me atleast
It is great for booth. On road the tyres make a difference. Now i have Conti Baron on my bike and the have more rolling resistance than the stock xr4 tyres. Offroad i think grip is more important than rolling resistance. But its because of the tyres not of the bike,. And its a mountainbike not a roadbike so i ride offroad. I only use roads to go to the trail and i dont care if i need few seconds longer to go to the trail.
Jonathan S I know this is a year old comment but nevertheless I have this bike. Personally I’m a huge fan of bikes that do everything and this ticks all the boxes because it _can_ do it all. I’ll admit it can’t do downhill like a downhill bike because a downhill bike is better for the job. But I like a bike that can do it all and this does (majority of it it does exceptionally).
In Belgium you get this bike in 2 versions, the version above which is still a lot of money for the components you get. And the second version is even less with MT500 at this pricepoint. Still looks overpriced for the kit you get.
Yes here is the US this is probably about the best SPECD bike you can get for the money especially in a LBS. Very well may be something out there but I don’t know what it is.
The newer version of the Line dropper is much better. The newer one is identifiable because it doesn’t have the silver ring on top of the dust seal. The plus version comes with 140mm front travel and the bike feels much more aggressive. Just put a DVO Diamond on mine and now it’s even better!
Currently owning a yt jeffsy 29er 2017,thinking about to barter for this particular trek bc i didn't like mine. I'm just little more intended to xc trails
Ye7ia07 in my opinion the jeffsy is a bike for riders who can squeeze it, I'm not that kind of rider, by the way, it goes uphill better than i expected, going downhill i found the bike sturdy little nervous. Overall, if i have the chance to get the trek instead i won't hesitate.
Excellent review! I ride an Evil The Following, but have rented this bike (carbon version) a few times and really enjoyed riding it.
I've had this bike for about 2 months now and could not be happier. I'm '5 8" and ride the 18.5 frame.
Dude, I really want this bike and I've made up my mind and getting it since it falls within my budget. I'm 5'8" as well. Is the 18.5 frame the M/L?

I have the bontrager xr factory tires and dont really like them in gravel, in sand and earth there is no issue.
Mc Vries i will change tires when they worn out. Not sure which yet. Had continental before those grips were great
What knee pads are those.
Can you please eview the nukeproof scout?
What GoPro mount are you all using on the handlebars? I like the rear suspension facing shot.
Great review. I'v got one with the Nobby Nics. Anyone had experience with the Bobtrager XR4or a replacement?
I had the xr4 2.4s and just put xr4 2.6s on. Roll good and grip good
