The muscle car era was an era of coupes. And the Ford Motor Company had built very nice coupes with Torino, Mercury Cyclone and Cougar. Greetings from a German Muscle Car Fan.
Yeah Brother, My older brother had a '71 Torino with the 302 2-barrel. He was in the service and drove it back and forth from home to Fort Campbell, Kentucky back in the 70's. Always loved the styling of the 70-71's. Keep 'er goin'!
Another automotive rarity brought forward by Lou. Great backstory from Larry where he is the original owner. He keeps it in excellent shape but makes sure he gets some use out of it. I got a kick out of his remark that he feels less that 71 when he hits the road in it. Thanks Lou, yet again, for bringing another unique car to your viewers. Have a great weekend.
Wow, Lou the 71 Torino Cobra is another awesome survivor of possibly the best era of automobiles! Thnx to Larry for preserving it! Keep up the good work finding these 'gems' Lou
Great car to say the least! I almost bought a 1970 Torino Cobra 429 4-speed in 1974. The price was $1200, but it got stolen before I got the deal done. This one is nicer, and a 351 is more practical with more than enough power. So nicely preserved and rarely seen today! Thanks Lou for another fantastic car story!
What a cool Torino! These are largely, and sadly, forgotten cars. Larry has kept this beauty in spectacular condition and been a great caretaker of it. The Torinos had great road presence and stance. Thanks for bringing this one to us Lou.
That's a real classic Lou! I just love the sound of the exhaust! Great him ordering and keeping it all these years and his sons restoring the car! Like my mom's car off road for 30 years and I got it back on the road after I retired and had the time! Some really great cars late 60sand early 70 s and it was downhill from there! Thanks again for another awesome car Lou!
I’m a Mopar guy. But I gotta give Ford credit. Like Chrysler, they hung in there one more year during that era of muscle cars. What an awesome looking ride this 1971 is! 😎👍
Lou, imho one of the best looking of all the muscle cars. And the 351 Cleveland...it made ANY car better. Arguably the best all'round V8 of the era. Magnum 500"s look great on anything they were on. They were offered by all of the Big 4 car companies. Really great survivor Lou. Kudos to the gentleman for his stewardship!
Thanks for posting this. We were working on a house in the McKees Rocks section of Pittsburgh, and saw one of these in the garage. It had been sitting for years but it was in good shape. No rust. It was black on black. The guy that owned it asked "Do you know what this is?" It was a SCJ 429. There are a lot of car nuts in the Pittsburgh, western Pennsylvania area.
Hi pkramerable, Happy to read you saw in Pittsburgh. My pleasure sharing this car with you, and you're welcome, Lou P.S. Maybe like this one. Enjoy. th-cam.com/video/MgTbGh0U3WI/w-d-xo.html

This video brought tears to my eyes. I had a 71 Cobra like this except it was red (originally gold) and had a C6 automatic. I put a Fairbanks high stall converter and built the transmission to shift more crisp. The engine was stock. It was my daily driver. What an idiot I was for ever selling it.

Perfection, and I'm not even a Ford guy lol! Iv never seen a Torino Cobra without the 428 CJ or 429 Super Cobra jet V8, this is an outstanding piece of muscle car history, and I can say easily that the 351 is probably the best small block V8's in history! Coming from a 340 small block Mopar lover haha! Thanks for posting this amazing vehicle and story Lou, best wishes! 👋♥️👍

I have a 1970 Formal Roof Torino. Not sure of the model because it has one repaint and they deleted all emblems and or the holes they went in. Ordered with a ginger interior, with bucket seats and console with floor shift. Kind of a rare bird. It will be roadworthy in the next couple of months. Axle rebuild coming soon. LOVE mine, and this Cobra is super cool!
Hi, Lou! Some people when they turn 21 celebrate by going out to drink...Larry celebrated by taking home a potent muscle machine! Couldn't ride the horse so he got a snake instead! LOL! He seems to be a rather quiet fella, but he sure knows how to make noise on an otherwise peaceful country road! Why, this one can make noise even without the engine on (10:37)! He said he wanted something with a little performance...he's being way too modest! LOL! His pestering sons did him quite an honor helping to keep this car alive after all these last 50 years. Indeed, original owners make for some of the best car stories! And there it is in black and white...literally! Thanks for yet another great episode and thrill ride!
Beautiful condition! Can you imagine hanging onto this baby all these years!? Your comment about it not being jacked up is so true. Why did those guys do that to a car of this design? It didn’t make sense mainly because the body style didn’t suit it. A boxy look such as a Dart yes but not a Torino. The rim horn still works!
What an awesome looking car and very well taken care of ! Sounds and runs great 👍 You can tell after all this time that Larry still Loves his car and is very proud of it ! Lou , Thanks 🙏 for the video , Great 👍 Job !
Hi Daniel, Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this car :-) Here is that Gurney car for you to enjoy, Lou th-cam.com/video/V27HLv99Zoc/w-d-xo.html
I always loved the Torino. Named after an italian city and so badass looking. Better than a Mustang to me. This one has the famous 351 Cleveland and Four Speed Hurst shifter. What a killer combo!! I am so happy for Larry, that he put it back on the road. I really love the black backend and the view from behind the steering wheel, where you can see the shaker in front of you...that just sends good emotions down my spine. The 🐍 sticker is just a cherry on the top. Go Torino go!! Yeah, so great!!
Goodday Lou, How good is that to find a 1971 Torino Cobra with the original owner. I bet their ain't many of them. Oh yeagh! Looks great! Reminds me of my mom's boyfriend in the 80's had a Torino GT very similar. It was painted with a bluish colored heavy machinery primer and he taught me to wash a car from top to bottom and how to clean the interior glass and not to armor all the driver seat! He was a drunk jerk mechanic but his younger brother with the 64 Barracuda was a nice kid! {;o)
Hi THRASH METAL & FUN RIFFS, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Moms Boyfriends car :-) Sad to read about that drinking problem :-( Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Love the car and the story! Would probably lose the optional bumper guards for a cleaner/cooler look. Had a '72 Montego GT with the exact same drivetrain. Great driving car although did not have rustproofing like Larry's car so the rear quarters rusted out in '78 in Upstate NY so I sold it. Keep 'em coming Lou. All Good stuff - Thanks!
Hi Clinton, Happy to read you enjoy this car & story :-) Glad to read you had a fun 72 Montego GT. Kinda like this 1973, enjoy, Lou th-cam.com/video/CLsQa3-tO58/w-d-xo.html
@@loucostabile Hey Lou thanks for the link. I have a '73 Monty GT also, but mine is a factory 429 ThunderJet, as is my '72 Gran Torino. My '72 Montego MX is a Cleveland car. I hope you're keeping track of my cars because there will be a test one day.
this is what i grew up with in the 70s. the cleavlands were very powerful. the boss 351 was a killer to chevy.the clevlands needed headers and gears and big carb and they would kill.
These cars are so cool with that fastback body. Fantastic survivor!!! The Cobra emblems warn ya to back off or be bitten, and when you see that shaker hood scoop quiver, it's too late and you're done for!!! 😂 Great car!!!
i got to ask how come there's no corajet symbol on the shaker , my brother had the 1970 cobrajet with a 429 interior black exterior candy apple red. Hey this is one beautiful cobra original.. love those cars cobra jet Torino's.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Tony, Happy to read "Hey this is one beautiful cobra original.. love those cars cobra jet Torino's" :-) Glad this one bring memories of your Brothers car. Hmmm, not sure why no symbol on the shaker. Lou
This is my father's car. It's the 351 Cleveland engine with ram air. It does not have the 429 cobra jet or Super cobra jet engine packages. From my understanding, only those cars had that badging on the shaker
Another great survivor Lou you can really find them once again we need some good car people in politics taking better care of our country. 🇺🇲 Have a 1974 cougar XR7 similar in class but certainly not the horsepower. When I was pumping gas in high school I used to put that high octane Sunoco gas some of these Torrenos

Absolutely a beauty in white with matte black. Perfect. And that exhaust note; each major car maker in this time period all had their own distinct sound to them. Hi Marc, yep, we drove them and used them.
Very Cool Car!! I love that era of fastback muscle Fords!
Happy to read you enjoy this "Very Cool Car!!" :-) Lou

An amazing car again! If you see this car, don't forget to take a photo!
Hi Dilek, Happy to read "An amazing car again!" :-) Lou
That my grandpa 🎉
:-)
There’s Bad Ass…but this is Baddest Ass Torino I’ve seen. Fast looking car, with an even faster engine. Lucky corn fields!
Hi Dr Akbar, NICE ! :-) Lou
Another Great Episode! My friend has a 71 Torino! He’ll Love to See this One! 😎
Hi 69 Dodge Charger, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Friends car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
this is what i grew up with in the 70s. the cleavlands were very powerful. the boss 351 was a killer to chevy.the clevlands needed headers and gears and big carb and they would kill.
Hi Robert, Happy to read this car brings back memories of what you grew up with :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Wow what a motor and what a sound!! Guys use to die for that sound years ago!!
Happy to read you enjoy the sounds from this motor :-)
These cars are so cool with that fastback body. Fantastic survivor!!! The Cobra emblems warn ya to back off or be bitten, and when you see that shaker hood scoop quiver, it's too late and you're done for!!! 😂 Great car!!!
Hi Hobiemarty, Happy to read you enjoy the fastback design of this car :-) Glad you enjoy this "Great car!!!" Lou
That Cleveland sounded great also.
:-)
i got to ask how come there's no corajet symbol on the shaker , my brother had the 1970 cobrajet with a 429 interior black exterior candy apple red.
Perfect, thanks for keeping it stock
Hi Lee Harvey Oswald, Happy to read you enjoy the condition of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Another great survivor Lou you can really find them once again we need some good car people in politics taking better care of our country. 🇺🇲
Have a 1974 cougar XR7 similar in class but certainly not the horsepower. When I was pumping gas in high school I used to put that high octane Sunoco gas some of these Torrenos
Hi David, Happy to read you appreciate this one :-) Glad you have a fun car too. Lou
wow just wow! This car is next level even for this channel
Happy to receive two "wow"'s from you :-)
Nice ride! My Dad had the plain Jane Torino the rear visibility from that sloped window was horrible 😬
I drove a ‘70 Torino GT for from ‘73-‘86, and the view out the rear was never an issue at all.
