- You'll see my personal review of the Countryman B3 Omnidirectional Lavalier, a microphone I use within my business to record videos for TH-cam as well as my other video courses.
We’ll cover topics such as its size, packaging, accessories, and price. Also, we are going to compare it to other microphones I use and take a look at the advantages the countryman has over the others.
We’ll talk about the interface you need to connect the microphone to your computer. And finally, we’ll listen to a sample audio comparison between the Countryman B3 Lav and the Sennheiser EW 112-P G3.

Just a note, the Sennheiser G3 lav mic is called the Sennheiser ME 2 lavalier mic, and is not $600; that is the price for the entire wireless kit, not just the microphone. In fact, the Countryman B3 is a step up from the ME 2, and costs about $70 more. Usually, when you get the G3 wireless kit, most people upgrade to the Countryman B3 lav to use with the kit instead of the ME 2. Please, don't have people thinking that mic is $600, the industry standard Cos-11d lav is only $379
Please remember market prices change from time to time in the similar way where web cameras were $45 and then $125 during high demand during covid-19 times. Same with mics.... Prices change. Please review the current market price and make your own judgement
@@Backstageincome True, but any way you skin it, the price quoted in the video is for the entire wireless kit and not the mic by itself. It's not an accurate representation of the price difference between microphones. No matter what the fluctuation, that microphone never cost anywhere near $600. In fact, you can grab the whole wireless kit, the updated G4 model, on sale right now from B&H for $499. I'm just saying that the information is misleading, that's all.
@@kelvingrant364 You are 100% correct. The Countryman is the more expensive and higher quality of the two capsules. If he bought the Countryman with the 3.5mm connector, it could have been an upgrade to his Sennheiser kit. One of the biggest differences is the quality of the cable. The Sennheiser cable uses a harder plastic and will transfer more noise than the Countryman.
The best part of this video is the all important sound comparison. I think viewers might benefit from one side by side shot of the two microphones you like. Thank you for your review.
The B3 can also be used with any wireless system so comparing it as wired to a wireless system is not accurate. The mic in the G3 can also be purchased separately and used on any wireless system with the right connector
Thanks for putting this together though
Nicely done. Thanks for the review.
You are more than welcome. Thanks for watching.
Equivalent noise is a little high at 24dBA
So I'm kind of confused because when I'm on the website it gives you options for instance I want to use this microphone with a rode wireless go 2 and use it with my go pro. But the problem I see is there's no option for the rode however I've seen people on TH-cam use this particular microphone with the rode...
how to use these lavaliers (3 or 4 people) in a movie scene?
what 2.4ghz wireless receivers to use?
which mixer? ZOOM Z6?
thanks you for the advice.
I have zed14 mixer... But really any mixer will do. If you want wireless, then you will need some receiver and transmitter. Really it depends on the features you want and budget. So many ways to make it work
Trying to save money, could this mic be used for live musical theatre?
Yes it can be. It is great to hide to it would work for that. But if you are singing and need it in front of the mouth you may need head piece as this won't attach to your ear
Man there is a few things wrong with this review. You keep comparing the B3 price to the Sennheiser Wireless kit price. The actual Sennheiser Mic can be bought seperately and will set you back around $100 (in Australia) and if you buy a B3 with the 3.5mm termination you can use it with the Sennheiser G3 wireless kit instead of the stock standard Sennheiser Lapel
I'm interested in the B3, but I have been looking at the 3.5mm jack version. I'm confused as to whether this 3.5mm jack would support 48v phantom power if connected to an XLR adapter. Do you happen to know if there is a solution for this? Thank you~!
Most mics that have juice are an XLR. 3.5mm I don't believe needs 48v power
if i am hooking this up to a go pro, using rode wireless 2 go - do i want mono or stereo?
Mono is single audio track. Stereo you can have a left side or a right side meaning left ear can have different noise then the right ear
oh i know the general difference between stereo and mono, but i am only wondering will it be harder to edit in stereo? I have a lot of nice stereo and headphone equipment but microphones are a new realm
I don't think it should be any more difficult
The price comparison of is not right because you're comparing a capsule to a wireless system.
"Because it's so small you can also get it in multiple colors." Because only small things can be in multiple colors. JFC.
Why would anyone make camouflage options for big mics? JFC
