    I just went through this last weekend. Skimmer hangs on the back of the tank and freaked out. I estimate ten gallons of water hit the carpet and soaked the stand. Discovered at 11:30 pm of course. Decision was to tear the system apart and clean under the stand. Tank is an 80 gal corner tank on a partical board stand. Of the stand stayed wet i was concerned it may fail in the future. Since i have attached a line to a fitting on the cup but this still would not have captured the ten gallons i think was expelled. I will be ordering one for sure. Thanks BRS for the video wish i could have learned this from someone else before i was hit with it. Keep up the good work!

    I bought this from you guys and it doesn’t work for me at all. When my skimmer fills, it foams over into the cup, causing the optical sensor to trip from the foam and it turns off my skimmer premature. Please address this and maybe test the product in one of your actual skimmers. I can see it working if you do a really wet skim, but I prefer dry skim, and I feel like this is something that needs to be pointed out. I understand that this may be a sponsored video, but I would like for this to be covered in full so people don’t waste their money. Thanks for all the good information!

      Not sponsored, and good feedback!
      I didn't have a false trip here, but I also did have wet foam as opposed to dry. An investigates or similar on this would be valuable!

    This is a great product, I have been using it since it came out to prevent skimmer overflows... that is until I flushed the interior part of the sensor down the drain when emptying the collection cup. Forgot I had it hook up after making some changes around my sump

    Need an Australian version. While mainstream controllers have mostly ignored the Au market there is a bigger opening for specialised controllers like this.

    Surely should have mentioned the biggest complaint with these which is having to unplug and plug it back in after it trips...(even if you plug it into a switcher panel which i thought would be the solution for this.. *click..click*... Nooop...still needs to be unplugged.) WHICH IS WHY it's best used ...in a skimmer overflow container, as this would make it more infrequent and no chance of foam tripping it. (2nd most common complaint, which can be solved with a little piece of filter foam and also should have been mentioned) Almost Everyone should use an overflow since its any size/shape container you can find to fit any space. You could literally use a zig zagging pvc pipe through all your small available space as long as its lower than the skimmer..and then have s little drain valve at the bottom point to drain. If you "dry skim" the collection cup is a good place for the sensor because if water is flowing out, its most likely not going to stop until the skimmer is shut off, so the sooner the better as not to unnecessarily effect water levels by filling up an overflow container. This product has worked very well for me in overflow container.

    Does this work with a 5 gallon white bucket? I'm trying it and it keep tripping out of the box. Or does it need a clear container?

  • @brianross6703

    Any reason you couldn't add this to an ato as a backup so the pump shuts off it the switch gets stuck on?

    • @ThomasBReef
      @ThomasBReef 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could for sure; they also have a water level sensor. The skimmer optical sensor has the optic on the outside with a lens on the inside, where as the water level sensor has the sensor on the inside and just a magnet on the outside.

  • @freakygoblin3068
    @freakygoblin3068 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    How does the sensor do with foam coming top down instead of liquid rising up?

    • @SeekoGT
      @SeekoGT 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EXACTLY. I have this product and it’s useless to me because my skimmer foams down, causing it to trip as soon as it starts up. I don’t feel like the portrayal done in this video is accurate. It doesn’t represent a real world scenario.

    • @jamesmolesson9991
      @jamesmolesson9991 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same. My foam trips the sensor. I might try to mount is just a bit lower and place a plastic shield over the top of the sensor to keep the foam from touching the eye. But right now it's a $70 paperweight.

    Bought one of these because my 150sss keeps overflowing after a days of skimming fine and it didn’t work. The magnetic connection was very weak. It was sensitive to misalignment, which is fine. I made sure it was fully aligned and operating right and the skimmate went right past the sensor and never cut the skimmer off. This would be great if it was a mechanical switch but this is a poorly implemented optical switch. Oh well, sent in for refund.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that! One thing to keep in mind is that it does have a detection delay of 5 minutes to avoid false alarms. If you were waiting 5 minutes and it still didn't trigger, then it sounds like you have have received a faulty unit.
