Baconettes! A Frito-Lay bacon flavored chip they had when my father drove one of their trucks in the 70's. Used ro munch on those, BBQ pork rinds, and BBQ Fritos all day when he shanghaied my little brother and me into doing 90% of his job for him.
I thought Fritos had a mesquite bbq and ranch flavor chip back in the early 90's, but can't find any reference. They are available in flavor twist, but something about the texture of the twists isn't the same as crunching on a regular shaped Frito.
I work for PepsiCo. I used to be in CR and when we decided to discontinue BBQ Fritos, people lost their minds. The phones got lit up. Dumb decision so it was brought back.
I could be wrong but, I was told by some of my American friends that you can't get Ketchup flavored potato chips in the US anymore. My US friends always ask me to put some in the mail for them or bring some with me when I cross the Boarder.
Crunch Taters were good. I’m assuming they were kettle cooked, that’s why they were so much more crunchy. And I absolutely LOVED O’Boises. I loved how light and crispy they were. At least, that’s how I remembered them.
You can actually buy Crunch Tators around the Christmas holidays at Dollar General. Lays have been doing this for about 2-3 years now. I usually buy a few bags of the mesquite bbq every year.
Those tins were great and we used them for everything we could. I noticed they still sell them but I have not tried them. Have you? Thank you for watching!
Doritos had a Sour Cream and Onion flavor for a few years back in the late seventies. They were so good! Also, Bugles are still around and I can see a bag on top of my refrigerator right now.
Omg I was hoping you’d mention the pizzerias! There was a lot of snacks we lost through the years. There was this really good snack I used to eat. I cannot for the life of me remember the name. It had strawberry, this cream stiff and like a granola or rice crispy thing. It came in a little tray and you had to put it together. It only lasted a short time and they were soooo good.
Thank you for watching and sharing what you loved MakeupMobster. I'm not sure on the strawberry one that you mentioned but that sounds interesting. Hopefully someone else can help us out.
Back in the 70s Doritos had a jalapeno doritos and I believe a sour cream doritos that were the bomb to my teen palette... There was another one but I cannot remember what flavor that one was...Jumpin Jack doritos were pretty darned good too,and I'd forgotten about them until just now...
Don't forget about the whole Granny Goose and Laura Scudder brands of the 70s! They branched out with other products too like Granny Goose Sickles and Laura Scudder old fashioned peanut butter! Funny looking at the ads for the Chipo's because it didn't look like there was a consistency in the spelling! One p or two! I loved the send up on The Simpsons when Homer is constantly eating "Chippo's" with the picture of a hippo on the bag! Haha!
I remember reading an article about Wow chips in a women’s magazine when those came out. A girl went out dancing in a white mini dress after eating a ton of those chips. She claimed by the end of the night her dress looked like the white piece of paper in a pizza box. The stuff literally seeped out of her skin and got her dress oily! I never touched those things, lol.
Cheetos Checkers were amazing. They were the cheesiest and I still get a craving for them every once in a while. Does anyone remember Ritz Twisters? Those were sooo good!
Crunch Tators were a big hit when I was in college. Mainly because one of the other fraternities on campus had the derogatory nickname "tators", so a lot of people ate them as a not so subtle dig.
My favorite that has been discontinued was a Doritos BBQ flavored chip. What I can remember was that it was an extra flavored chip (had extra seasoning) than regular Doritos and came in more than one flavor. The BBQ was my favorite. I guess it is good that it isn't around anymore, because I'd be buying it way too often.. lol.
Oh wow! Sounds like I missed out on those Doritos. They would be interesting to try so I'm all for them coming back. Thank you for watching and telling us about them!
I'm simple when it comes to chips. Regular Lays and regular Fritos, the small ones! I never got into the funky flavors that came out. I do love Puff Cheetos and regular Pringles but unfortunately I can eat the entire can/bag at once so I opt to let someone else purchase those! Thanks, Rhetty! Love Saturday mornings with you! Enjoy your weekend!
You're welcome and thank you for spending your Saturday mornings with me. Nothing wrong with liking some of the some of the original flavors. There is a reason why they have stood the test of time!
I miss the predominant chip brand we had in Canada called Hostess potato chips. They were bought out and replaced by Lays here. They were more fluffy and thicker than a regular Lay's chip. Kind of like a Ruffles chip but flat.
i remember working in a hunting store back in 2015 during high school (sportsman's warehouse) and we sold our very own Larry the Cable Guy branded chips. they weren't great and sold very poorly but my favorite flavor was the cheeseburger flavored chips and they tasted exactly like Doritos Late Night Cheeseburger chips!
I do remember when those chips came out and trying them. It may have been a little late for him. I'm not sure. Thank you for watching and mentioning them flashmusicarchive9584!
OHH I remember O'Gradys ! Loved that au gratin flavor as a Kid. Yes the Ruffles double crunch jalapeno and Sour Cream Cheddar are both close altenatives if you like the cheeze flavored chips ( my favorite)
I didn't realize that Olestra chips had stuck around anywhere near that long. I had thought they disappeared somewhere around the turn of the millennium.
I love Ruffles Hot Wing flavored chips! They are in stock a little while and then they stay out of stock for a very long time. I live in southwest Georgia and would love it if they were always available.
I was watching the movie Break Down with Kurt Russell the other night and noticed in the diner they had lays chips. It was only then that I realised they have been missing from our shelves for years. I totally forgot about O’Gradys until you just said it, I loved those things. My favourite chips now are called CC’s Coronado’s, I love the sour cream which taste nothing like sour cream. I noticed on an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond that you have them but they are called Bugles there. They might not taste anything like ours, the flavours are certainly different. Thanks Rhett. ❤Jodie 🇦🇺. Hi Paul 👋😁🇺🇸
That's interesting on the name difference but the may be similar or the same? I'll have to see if I can possibly order some and give them a try. Thank you for watching and sharing what you enjoy Jodie!
Thanks for the video! I LOVED Nabisco Chipsters. They give me such good memories of my childhood that I spent $10 for a box on Amazon! Not Nabisco, but "Belin Chipsters" from France. Tasted just like I remember! Ahhh, memories on something so simple! 😀
My favorite snacks are chips. If you want to find wild and delicious flavors, find a Asian Supermarket. I hit the chip aisle whenever I go, and they have imported Lay's and Cheetos from other countries in interesting flavors. It's fun to try the different flavors out.
Back in the 60's and 70's someone, I've forgotten who, made a green onion flavored chip that I loved. Not sour cream and onion, just green onion. Wouldn't mind having those again.
My favorite Doritos are the Taco flavored ones, the first flavor they came out with after the original plain ones. These were pretty much obliterated when they came out with Nacho Cheese flavored, and moreso when Cool Ranch came out. Fortunately for me, the Taco Flavor makes a come back every so often, like the McRib, so I get them when I can.
It is interesting that those chips only come back every so often. If you don't get them when you see them then it may be awhile before you see them again.
Thanks, Rhett. I enjoy all these memories. Here in Ohio in my neighborhood, we used to have the best chips that came in a large metal can. Thomasson's were always fresh and loved by everyone who experienced eating them. Paired with Lawson's chip dip... mouth-watering to think about. 🤤Oh, man!! I miss those. 🥔
That sounds interesting and especially with the metal tin. That would keep them fresh longer and give you something to store things in afterward. Thank you for watching and telling us about them!
Back in the early 60s in the Dallas area, there was a product called "Chip-Os" (or similar) which were round corn chips, better than Fritos. They weren't around long. Frito-Lay sued whatever company made them because of the "-Os" at the end of the name, and they then went off the market. Great chips, though. Also, original Doritos started out with a taco flavored variety, before nacho cheese was introduced. I don't know when taco flavored were dropped, but they were pretty good.
Great video! Always love the videos about foods from the past! So many great chips that aren’t around anymore. I really loved Pizzeria chips, quite possibly the best chip of all time! Thanks for the fun and entertaining video.
As a teenager I worked at a grocery store when the WoW chips were on the market. They didn’t bother me but my buddy had no clue about them. He ate an entire bag and the olestra did exactly what it was supposed to. He kept saying yo dawg you got no idea how tore up my stomach is! That’s when I showed him the warning label and he was not pleased
Doritos Jack'd used to be my favorite. They were bigger and thicker than normal Doritos so they absolutely shredded your mouth but the Ranch & Hot Wings flavor was the best they ever came out with.
Texas grill ums Fritos, Doritos salsa rios and keeler's oboisies potatoe chips are at least 3 that come to mind or there were the Kohl's store brand cheese puffs from back then...
Does anyone remember the 3d Doritos from back in the 90s I know they tried to remake them a couple years ago but they weren't the same. I really love this channel it really makes you go back down memory lane
I do remember those chips and I'm sort of surprised that they didn't stay on the market. Thank you for watching and I'm happy to know you are enjoying the channel!
I wish I could have tato skins original back ther tgi fridays cheddar and bacon ones are ok but I liked the plain old salted ones. I also miss ripplins and oboisies man I could tear a bag of tato skins and oboisies up. and I remember pringles had like an extra thick chip too. Those were great.
Whats my favorite? Wise Cheese Waffles. Humpty Dumpty brand made some amazing, unusual flavors -- clam dip, crab season, ketchup, and others. They were better than the name brands.
I remember a chip from the late 70s and earlier 80s called fantastic's if remember right they were like an oversized yater stick made from corn like a Doritos. If I remember they were nacho cheese and sour cream and onions flavor i think. It's been over forty years ago so I don't remember for sure what they tasted like. Now I wish the chips tasted like they used to and got as much in the bag as well. Plus some of the prices from the eighties or even the early two thousands. Not likely to happen though, thank you for the videos and memories.
You're welcome and thank you for watching hillbillytrucker8347! That chip you mentioned sounds interesting but I don't have a clue what it is. Hopefully someone can help us out on this one.
@@RhettyforHistory to be honest I don't think it was on the market for very long back then. But I was only four years old when it was on the market and I discovered it when my mom got it for me and my brothers.
Not only do I miss the chips, but the dips too. Heluva Good dips used to be the best before Hood bought them. One of the flavors was New England Clam Dip that is no longer. I had reached out to their customer service on FB and asked why they no longer make it. They tried telling me that it has always been a limited edition. I couldn't believe how they bold face lied to me since I was not only an avid customer, I was a Dairy Manager for 3 years at a grocery store. I haven't supported them since.
You're right about some of the dips disappearing as well. I really don't feel like there are many options now. I guess it's not as popular? Thank you for watching and mentioning that Mickey!

peel ur potato and fry up those instead...

Yeah, I loved baked Doritos!!!!
Thank you for watching and sharing what you loved kerrid.979!
I thought Fritos had a mesquite bbq and ranch flavor chip back in the early 90's, but can't find any reference. They are available in flavor twist, but something about the texture of the twists isn't the same as crunching on a regular shaped Frito.
That's interesting. I'll have to try and do some research on it. Thank you for watching and telling me about that one.
I work for PepsiCo. I used to be in CR and when we decided to discontinue BBQ Fritos, people lost their minds. The phones got lit up. Dumb decision so it was brought back.
Years later, that whole Olestra incident still makes me laugh! 🤣
My favorite Olestra story was of a dog that ate the chips and proceeded to ruin an expensive carpet. Don't worry, the dog was okay.
Definitely not something you wanted to eat a lot of. Thank you for watching ICallItAsItIs!
I could be wrong but, I was told by some of my American friends that you can't get Ketchup flavored potato chips in the US anymore. My US friends always ask me to put some in the mail for them or bring some with me when I cross the Boarder.
I sure haven't seen them Brian. I didn't even know they made them. Thank you for watching and telling me about them.
Whoever took you that you can’t get ketchup chips in the US lied, I see them in Walmart and grocery stores all the time.
Crunch Taters were good. I’m assuming they were kettle cooked, that’s why they were so much more crunchy. And I absolutely LOVED O’Boises. I loved how light and crispy they were. At least, that’s how I remembered them.
Thank you for watching and sharing your memories of Crunch Tators!
Loved both these chips too. I remember O’Boises tasting amazing but they were salty AF.
You can actually buy Crunch Tators around the Christmas holidays at Dollar General. Lays have been doing this for about 2-3 years now. I usually buy a few bags of the mesquite bbq every year.
Thanks for watching and letting us know when and where we can find them JazzyJeff910!
I loved Charles Chips! And the tins my grandma would put Christmas presents in and wrap it 😂
Those tins were great and we used them for everything we could. I noticed they still sell them but I have not tried them. Have you? Thank you for watching!
@@RhettyforHistory no I have not. Actually thought the brand was dead, so I will need to try them and update ya!
@@RhettyforHistoryyummy 🎉
I remember Charles Chips Commercials they would play every night during the Honeymooners reruns on our local TV station.
I collect old potato chip tins and have a couple from Charles Chips/Musser’s.
I loved the bold taste of Herr's Old Bay seasoned potato chips.
Thank you for watching and mentioning you love Herr's Old Bay!
They still make them but I miss the old artwork on the shiny silver bag.
7:47 I loved those Jumpin Jack Doritos!!
Thank you for watching and sharing what you loved GenXfrom75!
I want Mister Salty pretzel sticks back.... I really miss those.
Thank you for watching and sharing one you want back suspiciouswatermelon!
❤ all the food memories you bring back.
Thank you and I'm happy to hear you are enjoying the videos zzizahacallar!
Loved Chipos!!! Circa 1970’s!! Would love to taste them again!!!
Thank you for watching and sharing that you miss Chipos!
Loved Blue Bell. Still remember the packaging. 🥰
Thank you for watching and sharing what you loved raffinataonline!
Doritos had a Sour Cream and Onion flavor for a few years back in the late seventies. They were so good! Also, Bugles are still around and I can see a bag on top of my refrigerator right now.
Yes, the Bugles are pretty well everywhere but the other chips they created around the same time aren't. Thank you for watching!
What I would like is for the prices of the 70s & 80s to make a comeback.
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts TheOfficialZombieWhisperer!
Back in the 70s Doritos had a jalapeno doritos and I believe a sour cream doritos that were the bomb to my teen palette... There was another one but I cannot remember what flavor that one was...Jumpin Jack doritos were pretty darned good too,and I'd forgotten about them until just now...
You definitely brought some different ones Wil_Liam1!
Haha!
Thank you for watching and sharing a couple others for us to remember. You're right about the inconsistency in the spelling of those chips.
They weren't bad tasting but they left an oily/greasy residue on my lips so I stopped eating them.
Definitely doesn't seem like a great way to sell chips does it?
Cheetos Checkers were amazing. They were the cheesiest and I still get a craving for them every once in a while. Does anyone remember Ritz Twisters? Those were sooo good!
Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories of some snacks monicahenrion1559!
Yo-Ho potato chips, "since 1923". Came in a box with two bags inside. Light, crispy, salty, delicious!
Thank you for watching and sharing another one with us Cindy!
I miss the predominant chip brand we had in Canada called Hostess potato chips. They were bought out and replaced by Lays here. They were more fluffy and thicker than a regular Lay's chip. Kind of like a Ruffles chip but flat.
That is interesting. Were they connected to the Hostess donuts and pastries that are still around? Thank you for watching and telling us about them.
@@RhettyforHistory With a little research on the internet I think the chips are unrelated to the donuts and pastries.
i remember working in a hunting store back in 2015 during high school (sportsman's warehouse) and we sold our very own Larry the Cable Guy branded chips.
they weren't great and sold very poorly but my favorite flavor was the cheeseburger flavored chips and they tasted exactly like Doritos Late Night Cheeseburger chips!
Thank you for watching and sharing some of what you enjoy kevystead!
Andy Capp cheddar fries were so good!!!!
Garlic and onion Old Dutch potato chipd were great too.
Thank you for watching and sharing a couple you have enjoyed!
WOW!
Leaky colon Olestra
Thank you Rhetty for sharing ❤️
You're welcome and thank you for watching Monika!
Olestra Chips! I remember those. I remember once farting and having this really bad oily discharge.
Oh that sounds horrible. Thank you for watching!
I didn't realize that Olestra chips had stuck around anywhere near that long. I had thought they disappeared somewhere around the turn of the millennium.
Thank you for watching XianHu!
I love Ruffles Hot Wing flavored chips! They are in stock a little while and then they stay out of stock for a very long time. I live in southwest Georgia and would love it if they were always available.
Definitely sounds like they are doing that on purpose! Thank you for watching!
Hi Jodie!! 👋😁 🇦🇺The only thing wrong with most of Rhetty’s episodes is that they make me want a snack! 😁
@@paulstan9828 yes, all day long in this miserable weather too. 😁
You're welcome Dorothy and thank you for watching! I appreciate you sharing some memories of the Berlin Chipsters!
My favorite snacks are chips. If you want to find wild and delicious flavors, find a Asian Supermarket. I hit the chip aisle whenever I go, and they have imported Lay's and Cheetos from other countries in interesting flavors. It's fun to try the different flavors out.
It really is interesting to see chips from other countries. Especially when they are actually from the same company. Thank you for watching Shannon!
Back in the 60's and 70's someone, I've forgotten who, made a green onion flavored chip that I loved. Not sour cream and onion, just green onion. Wouldn't mind having those again.
Thank you for watching and sharing one you would like to see come back ericteneyck8691!
I loved Planter's Chips, I also liked Wows, but they made me sick as a dog. I only ate them a few times.
I can certainly see why you wouldn't keep eating Wow chips. Thank you for watching and sharing one you loved Kirk!
@@RhettyforHistory Very true
I miss some of those brands/types! The original Granny Goose brand was another of my favorites.
Thank you or watching and telling us about Granny Goose 01FozzyS!
Tato Skins!
I love those.
Thank you for watching stezton!
The cloest ive come to crunch tators are these kettle chips you used yo find at loves travel stops. Also those keebler pizza chips were top tier.
Thank you for watching and sharing some you enjoyed celebrity292!
Thank you for watching and sharing some you have enjoyed noferblatz!
I miss the Indian Girl cheese puffs! I have been thinking a lot about them a lot lately. Funny thing is I only got them once!❤🎉
I hope someone brings them back. Maybe under a different name than Pow-Wows
Thank you for watching and telling us about them aarily2!
Hi there Rhett 🙋🏽. Some of those chips were My favorite. Thank You for inviting me to watch your video ‼️
You're welcome and thank you for always watching and commenting Carole!

Great video! Always love the videos about foods from the past! So many great chips that aren’t around anymore. I really loved Pizzeria chips, quite possibly the best chip of all time! Thanks for the fun and entertaining video.
You're welcome and thank you for watching volstar8! I appreciate you sharing one you loved!
Crunch Tators have been back the last two years around Christmas. They can be found at Dollar General
Thank you for watching and letting us know where we can find them garlandragland!
Doritos Jack'd used to be my favorite. They were bigger and thicker than normal Doritos so they absolutely shredded your mouth but the Ranch & Hot Wings flavor was the best they ever came out with.
Texas grill ums Fritos, Doritos salsa rios and keeler's oboisies potatoe chips are at least 3 that come to mind
or there were the Kohl's store brand cheese puffs from back then...
Thank you for watching and mentioning a few others danielbeckstead-xk8md!
I remember in the early 2000s there was a bag of chips by a company named thunder dead I really liked.
Interesting name and I never heard of them. Thank you for watching and telling us about them!
I loved pizza puffs made by either Clover Club or Laura Scudder's in the 60's and 70's.
Thank you for watching and sharing one you loved Pamela!
Thank you for watching and sharing some of the ones that you enjoyed ryverwynd3134!
Whats my favorite? Wise Cheese Waffles.
Humpty Dumpty brand made some amazing, unusual flavors -- clam dip, crab season, ketchup, and others. They were better than the name brands.
Thank you for watching and sharing a little of what you have enjoyed tracytracy622!

Anyone remember the pizza flavored Jays? Or the nacho cheese flavored Tostitos? Those were my favorite!
