    These are very useful videos. I particularly like Dale's explanations and his demeanor. I feel confident now to begin working on my 1998 VW Jetta GLX to see how much I can improve the exterior. Your video demonstrations and descriptions of the Meguiar products remind me of receiving skin treatments at high-end salons :-)

    This is not faded paint. You can clearly see that this is some kind of compound that they have left to dry to give the faded pink salmon effect paint to make you all think this is actually faded paint when it's not. Please believe me. I am a professional detailer. To address faded paint you will need to prep before compound polishing by using wet and dry sand paper.

    • @meguiars

      If the paint is chipped using a compound will not help as the paint has already been chipped/removed in those areas. Typically the only thing that will fix chips is touch up paint.

    • @meguiars
      @meguiars  ปีที่แล้ว

      That depends on the severity of the oxidation. A couple of things to keep in mind...
      1) If your vehicle's paint is actually failing/failed and not just oxidized the only real remedy is repainting. We may be able to help you diagnose with pictures.
      2) Wet sanding is a professional process and will require the appropriate machine and skillset to remove the sanding marks. Make sure you are prepared to undertake that kind of project.

I won't take any cat with paint as bad as this golf! I would tell the customer sorry I am not interested in taking the job. It would waste too much of my time. HELLO HARRY MEGUIRE... I have a car that is in a similar condition. I would like to introduce the water sanding sanding step in this process. I want only to lightly sand it by hand maybe with the use of a machine with very light pass and Grit grade. What grit would you guys recommend and what would be the correct order for these steps to include the light sanding. To complicate things I want to add a light 2k clear coat to the paint as evidently all this sanding and cutting compound will remove clear and paint as at 8:35 on an oxidised car surface. Thank you

    • @meguiars
      @meguiars  ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically we would recommend finshing with 2000-3000 grit paper. You will then want to compound and polish to remove the sanding marks and give great shine/gloss. Here is a video that shows how best to do that with some of our best compounds and polishes...

    • @meguiars

    • @meguiars

      We don't necessarily recommend this product be used with a rotary buffer as it is designed for hand, orbital, or DA application. The effectiveness and ease of use could vary widely. That being said we don't have a recommendation on a pad for a rotary but if it were used correctly on a Dual Action Polisher we would typically recommend our foam cutting disc (burgundy).

    So if use to compound on a black car I would use the polish after words or wax afterwords

    • @meguiars
      @meguiars  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are planning on using all three steps the order would be compound, polish, and then wax. Keep in mind polishing can be an optional step. Whether or not you choose to polish is often a decision based on the condition and color of your paint as well as your personal desires for it. The darker the color the more visual impact a polish might have. Someone who is merely trying to maintain their white daily driver in good condition might not feel it is worth their time/money to polish. Someone who is incredibly particular about their black show car may consider polishing a vital step.
      Hope that helps.

    Hi, great video, thanks.
    I've been trying to achieve the same on a 2007 Honda Jazz but it has been a complete fail :-(
    I started with finer pads / compounds which had no effect at all, then gradually went coarser - still no effect. Then I tried 2000 grit wet and dry, very lightly with plenty of water and a slightly deeper colour began to appear, but only a few strokes after that it was through to primer. I'm guessing that this particular car has a very thin colour coat and a hard clearcoat over the top.
    Would that explain why it takes an aggressive approach to get to the oxidisation, but then there's not enough depth to get back to a rich colour?
    Any insight into what's going on here would be appreciated! Thanks.

      As you may have already figured out the compound should only be applied to a small section (2'X2") at a time and wiped off immediately. There is another link below for a video that shows how best to apply compound, polish and wax by hand.
      The best way to remove it is to reapply the compound the correct way as the compound will help re-release the dried residue from the first application.

    • @meguiars
      @meguiars  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the feedback. 👍
      The Gold Class Wax should be applied in a very thin coat then allowed to dry to a chalky haze before wiping off with a good quality microfiber towel. This can take as little as 10-20 minutes in some environments but it can take even longer for the product to dry if it is over applied and/or the weather is not ideal.
      If you have rust spots you will want to keep the product away from them simply because the residue could become trapped in those areas and difficult to remove.

      Those are two very different things. Compound is used to remove defects including oxidation in the existing clear coat (paint). It does not leave anything behind and does not coat your vehicle with anything. It is simply remove to store existing paint.
      Repainting is of course a much more expensive and difficult process most consumers would not undertake on their own due to the lack of expertise, tools/equipment, proper paint booth, etc.

    Red fades the fastest (besides black) because it has the longest wave length in the colour spectrum. This means it's the easiest wave to disrupt and more importantly absorbs the most photons which in turn leads to faster bleaching cracking and other UV damage than a colour such as blue which would naturally reflect a lot of that energy back away from the finish.

      The polishing step is often optional and a personal decision likely based on the color and condition of the paint as well as your desire for it. If you have a darker color car and want the absolute best shine you may want to consider polishing between compound and wax. If you have a white daily driver in good shape and your primary concern is protection you may not see the benefit of a polish. Again, often a personal decision based on the specifics of your vehicle and your desires for it.

      The current oxidation is actually removed. It's not just being hidden. That's not to say a vehicle with old paint being beaten up by the elements regularly will not slowly oxidize again in the future. The same thing that caused this situation could of course happen again and that is why frequent care/maintenance is important.

    The faded paint will become worse after the surface dry out. If you polish it after you compound it and seal it with wax, it may hold up for 3 to 6 months. Again, you can't save faded paint by keep cutting it. Compound will make each single narrow scratch become Grand Canyon. From a distance, the paint looks haze.

The effect didn't fade again, on the contrary, with some further polishing troublesome places for absolute perfection the paintwork was absolutely spotless. Cleaning bacame easier and all it needed was a waterless wash and thick fiber cloth. No marks, no fading, water marks, scratches and any sign of oxidation. .

      Polish is designed to create the highest shine possible. A pure polish does not offer an defect removal or protection and would be used between compounding (defect removal) and waxing (protection). How much of an impact a polish has is relative to the condition and color of paint.
