    What did you think of Glass Onion?

    • @berendharmsen
      @berendharmsen ปีที่แล้ว

      I hoped that, it not being a Star Wars movie and I hence have no vested interest in the subject, I could objectively enjoy a Rian Johnson movie without being annoyed by the canon-breaking stupidity of Last Jedi.
      Glass Onion, however, proves that this is just what he does. He seems to only be capable of writing stories where everything has to hang together from countless things happening by accident in order to have a 'masterplan' come together.
      It - again - works backwards from some nice idea he had for a finale and then fails to make the big ending be plausible in any way. Scenes often contradict things that were seen or establishede before and the whole thing only works if you are willing to not think back to what has happened before.
      It's contrived, illogical, yet somewhat entertaining to watch because of the fantastic cast that somehow keeps a rickety script alive, despite it making just about as little sense as Last Jedi did.
      Johnson is a pretty good director; the stuff is entertaining enough to watch, but he's an absolutely terrible writer who is either incapable or uninterested in making his stories make actual sense.
      There are far worse movies out there at the moment, so I'll give it a 6/10 for effort en casting. Daniel Craig is enjoying himself in the same way that Jeremy Irons had a blast playing in that ridiculous Dungeons and Dragons movie: realising what a silly movie he is in, he's hamming it up and saving this thing.

      @berendharmsen ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fredriksvard2603 I thought Craig was pretty hilarious as whatshisname and Edward Norton can do the rich asshole with his eyes closed so he worked as well.
      The girl who played the identical sisters (such a lame and cheap trope for a whodunnit; I groaned when that was revealed) was very good. The rest were adequate with the material they had to work with.
      All in all, the whole experience was like watching a mid-tier double episode of Midsomer Murders, slightly lifted by Craigs ridiculously over the top Col. Sanders imitation.

    • @fredriksvard2603
      @fredriksvard2603 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@berendharmsen Agree on the Midsomer Murders bit. Craig is always fun, couldn't stand the rest including Norton but it's probably because of the script they had to work with. Yes the sister girl was good though.

    The first film really was donut shaped. In the first act he shows you everything that happened but there is a hole yet to be filled.
    The second film really is glass onion. Upon rewatch you see he really shows you EVERYTHING in plain sight. And you just don't see it because there are layers and layers of narration.

    Watching the second, and now third, times, I started to notice how much screaming Kate Hudson's character does throughout the movie. It's not always screams of terror, but she screams a lot all the same. It started to remind me of a character from a 30-odd year old movie whose lead female character screams pretty much non-stop throughout the movie. It was movie I wanted to like, but I couldn't get over all the screaming. It was annoying. Then it dawned on me; the actress playing that character was Hudson's mom, Goldie Hawn, and the movie is called Bird of a Wire. I think Johnson wrote the character Birdy as an homage to Hawn's character in Bird on a Wire.

    Knives out was brilliant. This is much less so. I hate the film basically barrels down the track to fulfill the character Bron’s dream to be mentioned in the same breath as Mona Lisa. It’s not real but the film’s solution to that is insulting. Janelle is amazing. Her performance rivals Daniel’s detective.
