Urant Wifi Repeater Review and Setup Tutorial

Look and Build:
The look of the URANT Wifi repeater is not bad. It is white and has the lights arranged on one side which looks pretty cool when they are all blinking. The plastic does not feel too cheap. One of the problems I have with the build of this device is that it is pretty bulky. When plugged into a wall socket it will make it hard to plug any other devices in to the other plug. So basically you lose a wall socket in your house.
Connection Quality and Range:
The connection was not bad really and once I finished the configuration it seemed to automatically connect pretty quickly. Usually when I purchase Wifi devices like this, such as a travel router or wireless repeater, I like to test the bandwidth before and after the device to see how much it affects the internet speeds. I found that I lost nearly 70% of my bandwidth using this product. While this wouldn't be horrible for just surfing the internet it would be very bad for streaming movies or TV. It would also not be the best if you had multiple people using the repeated WiFi network. Some bandwidth loss is always to be expected with devices like this so it is something to be aware of for sure.
Easy of Installation:
Installation for this product was extremely easy. Really only involved plugging the URANT Wifi Repeater in and then going to WiFi extender website to configure everything. Took me maybe 5 minutes to have the repeater network up and running.
Setup Instructions:
Follow the step below to setup this device:
1. Plug the URANT WiFi Repeater into a power socket
2. Find and connect to the new WiFi network named "Wifi-Repeater"
3. Once connected go to 192.168.10.1 in your web browser. This can be done on either your phone or computer. the only requirement is that you are connected to the WiFi network in step 2.
3. Select the mode you would like, I selected Repeater mode because I wanted to extend my WiFi network.
4. Find and select your home WiFi Network from the list.
5. Enter your home Wifi Network password, change the Reaper SSID to something unique from your home network SSID and select the apply button.
The URANT WiFi Extender should now be working and extending your network signal.
I like this URANT Wifi Repeater because it worked and was VERY easy to setup. Two things I do not like are the loss in Bandwidth and the large size that would seemingly take up and entire wall socket.

i purchased that thing and despite being advertised as wifi repeater it is also advertised as wifi booster and the latter is the main reason for why people order this device in the first place. Apart from a nice design and blipping color lights it brings your bandwith speed literally to a screeching halt doing exactly the opposite any booster is supposed to do. Thanks for a useful tutorial.
I have the exact same model it arrived today and I was Dumbfounded because it actually works. And the set up was super easy. I actually thought the set up was going to be very complicated but it wasnt. My wifi icon is at full range and stable I can't believe it.

i had a repeater for some time but couldnt get it connected! I had found the manual to not be much help. With some trioal and error you got me through it!! Keep up the good video. I found when I put it halfway between my router and PC I had better speed

Mine just arrived this morning, very quick delivery. Easy to connect to the router. Connected it up stairs in the kids room and used it on the playstation and now my son gets very fast connection and all works great.

These are really cheap and, essentially, you get what you pay for. I use two in my house to reach distant points and the outside patio. Yes, it degrades the speed but I have high speed to start with. I find the resulting slower speed is good enough even for videos. So, for a very small outlay I get usable wifi where I had none before. Calling them fake extenders is silly. They work well but not as good as much more expensive ones.
I'm glad I watched your video. This will save me some money. I don't need to lose bandwidth.

Well, I don't know if by now everybody knows the answer but I think I have it.
The speed on both the modem and repeater drops down because they are broadcasting in the same channel so they interfere each other. If you can change it without losing the connection that would improve everything.
I’ve just ordered one of these off eBay for my sons room as connection there is bad. I only paid about £8 so if it’s not any good I can live with that.

hi, I did this several times but it wont work. the issue is it fails to connect. it has very good strength but when it connects it fails/disconnecst? I tried this on a pc and a 2 tvs. same issue. i did a master install of the router. evrything else works fine. any ideas? it also asks me for the SSDI KEY instead of the password which seems weird. i enter it, it says very good connection, but wont connect. ?any ides please.

You are able to rotate the plug prongs so the device lays horizontal and it DOES NOT block the other outlet

This idea isn't optimal for most people, but if you were to take an Ethernet cable from the router to the repeater, then you would probably improve the bandwidth coming from it a really good amount.
If you were to take an ethernet cable from the router to your PC, you would boost your bandwidth even more - but the reason for a wireless extender is that it's *_wireless._*

You secure the network by adding a password to your router.. You add the password by going to the admin account like he showed. Should be an option where you add password to router..

Why did you have it hooked to an extention cord. Most of the devices I have seen or used have you pluging directly to the plug directly.
thanks for posting this. i have a wifi blast, but plugging it in reveals a solid red light for power and a solid green light for the wps. the lan light is green and flickers, but neither my phone, ipad or laptop ever picks up the wifi repeater as a network choice. do you have any suggestions? i have tried connecting the ethernet cable from the repeater to the laptop, as someone suggested (~7 months ago), but that didn't work either. i will pay you handsomely on tuesday for a burger, i mean advice, today.......

Bought it, hooked it up exactly as directions instructed .. will not connect to internet.... it shows connected but when you go to chrome... it says obtaining IP address and never connects to internet..... would not recommend to buy.... doesn't work.

I was very disappointed with Its slow speed and it just didn't compare to my Net Gear that I had purchased from best buy 6 months earlier, connected to a Ethernet cord really helped also. Worth the extra 50 dollars.
Will this help with my Kodi streaming device or will it not work as well cause of how much this repeater takes up the bandwidth?

A few years ago I got a wifi extender and tried to set it up. I got as far as the admin screen and set up my new password. Then I couldn't get it to work Fast forward to today and I have a new extender but the old network id comes up and I can't remember the sign-on. The reset button doesn't work, and I have a Mac. Does that make a difference?
Anyone out there? Ours arrived without the protective film on it, and the power light and the third LED blink extremely rapidly, and absolutely nothing else happens, even when plugged into a socket 2 feet from the router.

Can be purchased on eBay these days for about USD $10 including shipping. Realistically speaking you can't expect much for that price. This unit is probably suited for an apartment and that's about it. And not an apartment with brick or concrete walls inside. Just wood and drywall like in North America.

What good is a repeater if it knocks the signal down 70% ? The whole idea is to put it into a place where there is a weak signal to "boost" the signal. Anyway, I read the directions, followed it step-by-step (which is exactly like your video...good job BTW) and as soon as I connect it to my wi-fi in the house is goes dark...nothing works. POS if ya ask me.
You're confusing connection speed and signal strength, 2 different things.

I have the same repeater which i use with the AP mode.. I have a 100mbps internet and i lose 80mbps of upload speed.. but oddly, the upload speed is able to reach 50mbps :/

I have been using one of these for a couple of years, but the router has just been changed, and the repeater is still giving me the old router name. I don'tknow how to make it recognise the new one. I have pushed all the buttons, and there's not much else to do, so I guess I have to connect it with an ethernet cable and see if that makes it reset the router name.

what does the "wps" button do on front of the device .. because before I bought it in the sales video it said all i need to do was push that button.

How do I know if it's working? went thru the instructions....didn't change the internet name so I don't know which is connected although I now see a net work with _ext. Is that the connection. However I'm Not getting better connectivity in my back room. Do I put the devise in that room or leave it in the room with the wi-fi? How to reset for the second time ?
While attempting to reset, due to poor wifi connections connecting interrupted. Now could not even reconnect to wifi repeater . Connection lost. 😪
My wifi is great throughout my home - 2 stories. It's pretty good outside as well. So here's the $64 question: what is this gimmick actually good for? I guess I feel supremely ripped off, especially since there's NO way I can get the vendor to let me return it. At this point, the only recourse I have is the FCC and more directly, yelp.
