This is a great video! I feel like I've heard this phrasing in passing but never understood it in context until now so thank you! Would it be common to use this verb to describe past habitual actions and in the negative also? :)

Yes you'd normally only use this verb in the present or imperfect past tense in Spanish, like how we use it in english, as you wouldn't for example, say what you'll usually do in the future if that makes sense. Yes you can in the past & in a negative: No suelo ir al cine (I don't usually go to the movies) Yo solía hacerlo todo el tiempo (I used to do it all the time)
