The guitar in the solo sounds like someone stuck in some deep abyss and crying their heart out for help. Only by the love of people around him can he be saved but the place is too deep to be heard from. While all of this happens the memories of the good times before adds fuel to his fear and sorrow.
My mother, when she heard this song for the first time, burst into tears. I also cried when I heard for the first time. And my sister. Although it was at different times. But for each of us it has become something special. It became a personal revelation for each of us.
I saw him perform live with slash here in Mumbai and he was scanning the crowd during his performance when excited me put up my metal horns in appreciation and he smiled and showed me \m/ horns too. I must've shed a tear or two.

When I discovered Alter Bridge about 3 years ago, the main thing was Myles' voice. I had discovered my true fsf (favorite singer forever - cheesy but true), and it was only made 10 times better when I discovered that my favorite singer in the world was working with my all time fav guitar player, Slash. I came back home across country for my lost first love. Your song Blackbird really inspired me to. I almost lost my life in a windy blizzard to get here but I made it by a miracle. Something was fighting against me in my purpose (it tried to sweep me away). I couldn't find him here but when I did find him i noticed by his different addresses that he also had traveled across some states around the same time and seemed to be heading home too. Then, after 4 years of searching I almost gave up. Then one day I felt an urgency in my heart and spirit that I needed to search again. I did and I found him. Only it was too late. He'd died that winter. Ten days before he passed, he came to me in a dream at our most special place in the past. We hugged and we were able to tell each other that we didn't ever want to leave and separate all those years before. We finally reconciled after all those years. That's what we both really needed. Now, I know I'll see him again someday. Love is forever and life is too. Then in my grieving for him one day I heard this song. I felt that he was singing this to me saying for me to move forward in my life and that it's ok for me to live and love again. Love does heal no matter how broken the heart is. God bless you Myles. Our son committed suicide in April of 2018. This song was left as a message to me that I found 4 1/2 years later. I can actually put myself in the artist view as if I were him and feel the same thing about the death of someone close, like a wife or son. It was his way of telling us it would be ok, and to not "what if" myself to death or let it haunt us. Sorry for the dark story, but That said, --(agree with Anton Rozzouk who said) "This guy is probably the most underrated musician ever. He’s got an extraordinary voice and an awesome personality" - I'll be looking for Year of the Tiger and others I see listed. Thank you Myles....

March 9th. My Mom has been gone 10 years today. Depression and cancer somehow go hand in hand. 11 years ago Brad Delp of Boston took his life. Those demons haunt so many of us. Myles Kennedy is a gift to those of us who can escape into song.
Once in a generation, there comes an influence in music that makes you have to pinch yourself to make sure it's real. Mr K is in my mind that person. His lyrics and sublime guitar playing to me make him an everlasting treasure. May your vocals last and your fingers play beyond the day of my hearing no more. A true master of his art and my privilege to have heard him.
