    I took apart for the first time the Cold Steel 4-Max and spent a bit of time polishing the mating surfaces of the locking mechanism. It ended up smoothing things out quite a bit.

    I used a felt wheel on my dremel and a rubber polishing cylinder to get into all the tight spots on mine. I also took a half a thousandth off of each scale around the pivot and added a second polished phosphor bronze washer on each side to slick up the action.

    Nice video. Now I want to do the same to mine after I get it in the mail. It appeared you were stropping some of those surfaces after you showed us the wood dowel treatment. Hope your finger is better!!

    I am happy to see it comes with bronze washers... They use cheap teflon on SR1. Nice pocket tank though! Big and strong

      The Knife Guy I have been more than impressed with it. I’ve used it hard since I have bought it. I’m finally getting to the point where it could use a sharpening but even then I can still pop hairs with it and that only been with maintaining the edge on a ceramic rod. I am completely sold on the size as well. I have a few big folders but they just don’t work as well. This one has the control and heft that makes its size an advantage. I don’t find it awkward to carry either.

      @@gravytrainoutdoors Wow! Very happy to hear that, I will soon get mine and do a youtube reviews, the more I listen and watch the more excited I do get. And I do enjoy large folders, most of them are not practical but this one does seem to be practical and sit comfortably in hand! Thank you for the review~!

      The Knife Guy I think that is the key point with this knife. It really is practical. Some of my other big folders don’t really add any benefit by being large to how they function. The ease in which this knife performs the tasks I ask of it are definitely aided by the size of the knife and the size and ergonomics of the handle. I can’t say that about my other big folders such as my Military or my ZT. I have no doubt that you will love yours.

      @@gravytrainoutdoors Just got my 4MAX two days ago. Been testing it, playing with it and I am surprised it's so practical and has such an amazing slicing high grand blade + can be used as a chopper, it's all in one, jack of all trades type of multiuse practical knife. I am really lovin' it! Made in USA and very good quality built. P.S. Why would they put T6 torx screws on such a big knife? Why not T10?

      The Knife Guy that’s awesome! It definitely has excellent edge geometry! I think you will love it more and more each day you use it!

    I just don't understand, why does CS use too short pivot screws. As the same case as SR1 - too short pivot screw, and then it is necessary to apply the blue loctite.

    • @gravytrainoutdoors
      @gravytrainoutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      They seem to work well at least. Blue loctite is smart to put on any of the screws. If I remember correctly, the pivot screw didn’t have loctite on it and it didn’t move before I took it apart. It’s been a while since I made this video so my memory might be off!

    • @Vito-G
      @Vito-G ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gravytrainoutdoors My SR1 Tanto has a short screw which doesn't hold tightly and moves easily. For example ZT, they apply the long screws which pass all through the length of the nuts and it is absolutely reliable.

    • @gravytrainoutdoors
      @gravytrainoutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Vito-G I haven’t had that issue with this knife. I have the AD-10 and ultimate hunter which haven’t had any issues either but I also haven’t had them apart. I wonder if the pivot screw on the sr1 is shorter? I know what you mean about other pivot screws being longer on ZT’s and such

    Great video man. Does it have free spinning pivot or is it d-shaped?
    Edit: never mind I see it now.

    Why Didn't you show the action of the knife prior to forcing it apart? For all we know it's worse now than before. A simple opening and closing of the knife would have solved that.
