American Fam. ate BALUT: 10,000 Subscribers Challenge!

  • To celebrate reaching 10,000 subscribers to our TH-cam channel, we ate Balut, which is a fertilized developing egg embryo that is boiled or steamed and eaten from the shell. It is a streetfood and a delicacy in the Philippines. We took the challenge to each eat a Balut for reaching 10,000 subscribers. Since we earned it in the Philippines and had so much great support, we felt it appropriate to experience eating this street food as a family.
Sam, Ben, and Jake led the way by eating the Balut first. Sam put the whole egg in his mouth, which was too much for him and he started to gag. Benny did well and only gagged one time along with some great faces. Jake quickly ate his, bu the gagging got him as well. JoeJoe and Grace were not interested in eating the Balut. To end things up Dad took a bite of the egg and discoverd that it really tasted good. It was just the textrure and the fact that it is a chick embryo that makes you feel sick.
We are so grateful to all of our subscribers and look forward to our TH-cam live on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 11:00 AM Filipino time. Please add your questions below to what you want to know about our family. We look forward to all who are in Our Backman Family. Thank you fora ll of your great support!

I just wanted to say how you’re raising your kids is so admirable. I could tell esp with your older boys that they are well travelled and respectful with all types of people and culture, everything! It is just so great to see it. That is the best legacy you could leave them with once they’re grown.
God bless and stay safe always.
Hope we see a lot more of your travels in the Philippines (and all your adventures all over the world).
From Filipina mom and daughter currently in Seattle.
    P.S. 50% of Filipinos don’t eat balot 🤫🤭

Your youngest is adorable. Eating balot is just a food to her ... she does not even flinch nor hesitate despite the embryo inside the egg. I was expecting her to somehow show a bit of hesitation. Good job eating this delicacy. As a first time eater, the technique is take it all in one gulp and chew it inside your mouth. Don't bite into it, take it all in one swallow and do the chewing after.

I watched all of your 🇵🇭 daily videos, and this is my favorite. That was so much fun. I wouldn't eat Balut, unless I need to, either. But I like Penoy (a hard boiled duck egg, sold together with Balut). You have to try it. It has the flavors of Balut, but without those gross parts (it's like your ordinary hard boiled chicken eggs).

When eating it, avoid the hard white part. Don't look at it😂 you will certainly gross out. Put a little salt and down it with cold beer or soda. I really enjoyed watching you guys! Balut is a boiled duck egg. It is very nutritious full of protein. Usually I don’t eat the white part because it is hard to chew and that is blunt. The egg yolk (yellow part) taste good with a little bit of salt. Just don’t think about the little duck chick inside of it and eat it like an ordinary boiled egg. Congratulations you have more than 10,000 subscribers now.

Your Balut Challenge were really amazing and we're all beholden. BTW, Balut vendors usually come during the Night because of its Nutritional value that contains protein (14 grams per egg), high in calcium, iron, and phosphorus, and just 188 calories per egg and that helps in boosting energy to last the whole night of performance. Some say it's kinda Aphrodisiac. There are Balut Vendors near the Hospitals and some that roam around the communities. Congrats for the 10K Subs. and 100K is not far fetched. Keep up the good works Guys and Godspeed.

Different strokes for different folks. That’s me. Born and raised in the PI, specifically from Iloilo, but I went to the US right after college and have been here over 40 years now. I refused to eat that boiled well formed baby chick. It is a street food and generally we would find it in public markets and bus stations in Iloilo City. But no one sells it in our town. So you might think it’s prolific and ad nauseam but not really. It’s still a niche in many islands especially as you go south. If you hate it and don’t ever want to see it, you never have to. Everything else that’s pastry in the PI is delish and worth trying. My sons fell in love with all things ube. Im sure your kids will each find their own favs after a while. Have great fun all of you.

Your likeablessss for trying it as family!!!!
Filipinos eats Balut mostly after tiring work to replinish energy lost , but if it became ones fav , then anytime of the day.
    Dont eat the hard part.
You can either gulp or bite by bit.
Spicy vinegar helps to camouflage its slimmy texture.
Next challenge , if you hit 15 k subs while in PHL , try DINUGUAN & PAPAITAN. 🤗😎
