It’s been one year since I started learning English with Elsa app. I study English alone at home and use it every day. I struggled with pronouncing even one syllable words before , but my hard work paid off . My English pronunciation has improved a lot! Furthermore, I can watch English TV shows without subtitles and read books in English now. I want to keep practicing pronunciation to get better. I’m so grateful to you for letting me know about the app. I can’t thank you enough.

Your videos are so inspiring and helpful for improving my English with Japanese accents. They also reminded me of my school days. Stanford Univ. was a place I often visited while I studied at San Jose State University and earned a Master’s degree in Linguistics and TESOL. One of the reasons I went to Stanford was to assist a project of Japanese language related, for my professor teaching at both campuses. My favorite was Phonetics btw. I love your dog and the conversation with the lady of the Starbucks. Cooking is also something I have to do home during the pandemic. My English vocabulary is limited to what I learned at the school. Much appreciated, therefore, if you could keep making that kind of videos. I live in New Jersey now, originally from Nagano, but many small things I don’t know about American culture sometimes bother me. That’s why I was so glad and inspired by your talk about what Naomi Osaka tweeted.

Summer sensei, your Japanese is perfect! It's really awesome for me that non native speakers of Japanese can speak Japanese fluently for these days. I think young Japanese people are becoming able to speak English as well. In a sense internet technology provides useful audio & visual materials according to abundant needs of target language learners, I guess. Is the second language teaching methodology efficiently developing in this field day by day?

I'm Japanese-Canadian and my parents spoke both English and Japanese at home. I can understand basic conversational Japanese, but find it hard to speak the language. Watching and listening to your videos is helpful to me. Would you ever consider doing a future video(s) to help those wanting to improve their Japanese conversational skills (and English is their first-language)? お久しぶりです - I use your channel to improve my Japanese! You enunciate so clearly!

    • @esotericist
      @esotericist 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I spent 27 years living in 5 countries across Asia. from Kyoto down to Singapore. I learned to enunciate clearly out of necessity (and to avoid the many idioms that make English such a rich language) - It's only fair! When I lived in Kyoto I got to teach English conversation to 4 people in exchange for Japanese conversation coaching. It is so enjoyable. One day I was cycling on the pavement (sidewalk to you) and a couple and their teenage daughter flagged me down ! So to speak! They wanted their daughter to engage me in conversation and practice her English - as she was heading off to UNI in UK in a few months time! Could I...?? OF COURSE! And so we did. Chatting away in the adjacent combini carpark. It was such a perfect moment. Smiles and gratitude all round at the end when I begged my leave. Ichi Go Ichi E !

Other difficult words: earth (ear), probably (2nd b)
I sound in little was difficult to get it right for me. I have tried maybe 20 times and only a few times I've gotten over 94% , and other times are mix between 40% and 80%, mostly lower than 70%. I couldn't even tell the difference of my 40% pronunciation and 98% one.

I missed the live-stream, but I enjoyed watching this video a lot!
The most difficult word to pronounce for me is "learn" (which I think is not in the videos), especially that it needs to pronounce "L" and "ear" and "n" in order, which I find super difficult. If I choose the ones among the archives, then those will be "water" and "world". But I can definitely say that you are the best teacher when it comes to how to teach this pronunciation of "er" by narrowing your mouth. By practicing with the videos, you can actually feel your pronunciation has improved in practice.
The easy pronunciation for me is "th" sound, such as "think" or "bath".
It would be great if you could pick up the pronunciation of "Learn" in the future lesson!

When you came over to Japan, What kind of things did you want to support by Japanese friends? One of my English teachers will come over Japan this July after taking student visa, so I would like to support him.

By the way, about Natto : p For people that are not eager to have Natto, it goes very well with Avocadoes or Tomatoes.
If you have chance please try to have Natto this way, I have 2 ways of suggestion how to have Natto.
    1. Cut an avocado in half, take the seed out, put some Natto (mixed with the soy sauce & mustard) in the hole, dig & eat with a spoon.
    2. Cut an avocado in small pieces (peal the skin, take the seed out), also cut a tomato in small pieces, put those avocado pieces & tomato pieces in a salad bowl, and then add Natto (mixed with the soy sauce & mustard come with) on the top.
It will taste great when you chew all those 3 ingredients together, it will taste differently than when you chew Natto only in your mouth. You sure still smell the Natto though, avocado & tomato do an excellent work. : D
I like adding ポン酢 with some wasabi on it, wasabi masks the smell. Actually not all us Japanese people love the smell, either. But we don't mind the smell at all when we have, maybe it is the same as durian ? : p
It is said that Natto dissolves clots in your blood vessel, so it's very good for your health. As long as you live in CA, Good Luck ! : D

Hi, Thank you so much for your live streaming. I really enjoyed the communication with you.
I scored over 80% within a few challenges except "world" which is most difficult pronunciation for me. Then, I checked out your video again and tried it again and again. Finally, I just got 63%... Not excellent...;-(

I didn't know, but it seems if you write your email in the comments, TH-cam automatically deletes the comment, so if you sent it, I couldn't see your email address. Could you please reply to this comment and then send me an email on my website www.summer-sensei.com to receive your membership? Sorry for the confusion!
