Satriani had amazing tone on his albums from ‘not of this earth’ to ‘ time machine’ oh and Eric Johnson probably has the best tone out of anyone I’ve ever heard
There isn't a shred of doubt that Andy has earned the right to be on stage with these guys. He's a monster shredder with amazing harmony and phrasing...
I come back to this video at least once a week for inspiration (specifically for Andy's solo and where all of them solo over one another). Always makes my day.
I love that descending run that was started by Joe around 5:04 that was expertly picked up by Andy to resolution. A perfect example of what it is to listen while you play. And that incredible section where they play over one another's arpeggios was epic! Andy and Joe have great musical chemistry together!
I am huge fan of Paul Gilbert, he has so much musicality but I always felt he lacked tone that was equally as great as his talent. I hate saying anything negative about him as he seems like such a great guy as well and on top of that I couldn't carry his guitar case!!!!
What is most interesting to me is how Ibanez has and keeps such giant endorsers when it has innumerably many competing brands building what many would think much better and definitely more interesting guitars at this point in guitar history.
Andy and Joe have a pretty different feel and so way far for paul music approach. They have so, so many expressions and soul. imho keep on rockin' from Italy
So is Keneally the 4 in the G4? Where's Vai? I love Mike, he's been touring with Joe for a while now but I guess I never associated him with the "G" line up. Shit, I just remembered they had fuckin Kenny Wayne Shephard in the line up one year....
PanduWic ...and due to his tinnitus he needs a clear sound in the headphones to hear what's going on properly. When I was a young guitarist I never used ear protection (those shitty foam-pops ruined everything into a muffled mess) and I've gotten tinnitus (and my max frequency that my ears can pick up is somewhere around 14-14.5KHz, should normally be 16-17KHz for someone my age). Now (25 years later) I use proper musician ear protection which dampens the volume without ruining all the frequencies.
people who knows fuck all and think when they named hendrix they know about guitars keep saying hendrix on every fucking you tube video come on these guys plays way better than hendrix, start playing guitar and you will know how good these guys are......... sick and tired of it......
The guitars have evolved and also the technique. But the fact is that you need more than technique to be as creative as Hendrix. His style is still unique today. He was the first to put the guitar technique to the limit and to play something different than folk or pop. And then the modern music was born. Anyway Hendrix would still be the greatest guitar master with a modern guitar. His limitation was just himself as there still didn't exist any shredding guitar player. It is like saying that Einstein wouldn't know how a solar panel works, knowing that he had discovered the photo-electric effect.
Jimi x I know how tapping works but i can't play it I am confuse what are you trying to say when you said It is like saying that Einstein wouldn't know how a solar panel works, knowing that he had discovered the photo-electric effect. Are you trying to say In 1807, François Isaac de Rivaz designed the first car powered by an internal combustion engine so he would know everything about today's modern formula One cars. such as high cornering speeds achieved through the generation of large amounts of aerodynamic downforce.
0RockOn I'm saying that without Einstein the solar panels wouldn't exist. It is very simple. And without Hendrix the history of music would be completely different.
0RockOn I have studied automotion and the only new things which made possible the evolution of combustion engines are the materials (metals, plastic, etc...) and electronics. So there's not so much new in the concept. A combusion engine is not such a nice invention. It is big, heavy, completely unefficient and it have too many components which can be damaged.
Well if you think without Einstein the solar panels wouldn't exist, you wouldn't have problem to accept without Max planck (The father of quantum theory), Einstein wouldn't exist. How wrong it would be to under appreciate Einstein and other number of physicist who worked their bollocks off and contributed to the world of physics and always keep saying they are nothing compared to Max planck. Max planck contribution is as equally important and beautiful as Einstein and other physicist.
Oh fuck, in other context gilberts tone and if you want attitude is great but here...timmons kind of schooled him on both courts. Again it's not a shredder vs bluesy feeling type of vs, but for little wing I always got the same feeling between vai's horrendous tapping and satriani delivering the slower more ...soulful and correct for the song lines lol. Don't get me started on malmsteen lol. At least he played the first four notes of the original solo lol.
I love seeing Andy get the recognition he deserves...
Agree!
Yep, he’s the best rock guitarist on earth.
Andy Timmons has the best tone
yeah and Mike hahaha
Without a doubt. Love his tone and the way the music seems to take over his whole body.
Satriani had amazing tone on his albums from ‘not of this earth’ to ‘ time machine’ oh and Eric Johnson probably has the best tone out of anyone I’ve ever heard
I'm amazed by how expressive, dynamic and intense Andy is here
Mike playing keyboard and guitar at the same time. You gotta love it.
Nothing beats AT in ballad song, he got very dynamic playing and influence other player mood
No doubt. His phrasing and harmony are epic...
Andy is sooo amazing
Andy Timmons OMG
Yea...took the words out of my mouth.
Paul Gilbert
Andy is out of this world. His musical sense. His instrument dynamics and his perfect guitar tone cannot be matched.
There isn't a shred of doubt that Andy has earned the right to be on stage with these guys. He's a monster shredder with amazing harmony and phrasing...
Mike is sick no wonder he gets to play with all the greats. He is one!
Andy Timmons is always ferocious. Mike Keneally’s talent is ridiculous.
I come back to this video at least once a week for inspiration (specifically for Andy's solo and where all of them solo over one another). Always makes my day.
Andy saved the day here, and prevented this from becoming a wankfest over a Hendrix song.
Hahaha this comment made me laugh.... Because it's true. Just came from watching the G3 with Yngwie on it.

My god, Andy Timmons solo is one of the best I have ever heard!
I am huge fan of Paul Gilbert, he has so much musicality but I always felt he lacked tone that was equally as great as his talent. I hate saying anything negative about him as he seems like such a great guy as well and on top of that I couldn't carry his guitar case!!!!

Shit, I just remembered they had fuckin Kenny Wayne Shephard in the line up one year....
Why i feel so sad.
:(
🤘
Anyone know why Paul is wearing the headphones/earmuffs? Is it ear protection? Filters? Or a monitor mix?
quedecree he has tinnitus. so it's for protection or he would lose his hearing more
PanduWic ...and due to his tinnitus he needs a clear sound in the headphones to hear what's going on properly.
