    My 22 year old left college, went to CDL school, got a job, and now has been driving solo for about 3 months. He loves it! I started watching trucking videos to understand his world and liked your channel because you're of similar age/perspective. Stay safe!

    I remember finding your channel about a year ago from a youtube short, never thought I’d do trucking, cut to just last week I graduated and received my CDL. A lot can change in a year. Going on my first trip tomorrow with a mentor, stay safe out there!

    I've watched a lot of your videos for a few weeks now. It's an incredible perspective and I've always wanted to merely step up into the cab of a 'big truck'. I started flying as an airline pilot when I was about your age and even though I love the job, I still can't get over how much I love taking road trips myself. I can't go a month without hitting the open road. But THIS.. This is the way to do it. Congrats on finding a great company and let me know if/when you ever start flight training.

    I seriously recommend going through a company sponsored training program like CR England or Swift (though they have a bad rep and did me wrong) I remember coming from being homeless, them putting me on a Greyhound, and giving me a place to stay during training, it was gold for me. I remember the first day of school at CR England, it almost felt like a boot camp how they walked us in line around the course and building which was pretty cool. They did a pretty thorough job training how to back and going through training videos and stuff. Then they put me on a truck with a trainer for about a month. The only way I succeeded with it is simply paying attention to what they taught and following it. Never really had trouble with grades and using the Jake break. It was after training that Swift and CR england started to screw me, then I got out and went to a better company with better pay. 1st year or 2 was fun, after that started getting tired of it and feeling like I'm in a rolling prison cell. Staring at a road all day every day and missing out on conveniences really gets to you after a while.

    I have never driven true otr my entire career . 2.5,million safe miles so far married with three kids . At some point your going to want to go regional or local to have a life outside of the truck . I usually work a 4 day week and go home running intermodal . Always able to get off to take my kids to appointments or help my wife with them . And make enough to pay all our bills contribute to retirement at a rate that will allow me to retire early and pay cash for my wife’s college . Trucking can be a very good Career even with a family . No office or factory job in my area would give me as good a schedule for anywhere near the same amount of money .

    I drive quite a bit on the freeway, and I tend to go slower than the rest of the traffic, and stay in the slow lane with cruise control. Like, if people are going 60 MPH, I set the cruise to 55. Or if people go 65 MPH, I got 60. Or if people go 70, I usually leave it at 60. But if people are going like, 75 MPH, I go 65. It gets better gas mileage, and is calmer. I like cruising slowly. Of coarse, in the slow lane.
    I don't set cruise control to the speed traffic is moving, since on my van, it's either on, or off. No way to adjust it by like, 1 MPH. So going the exact speed of traffic with it is almost impossible. I would have to keep turning it on and off. So I just set it to a rounded off speed like 60 MPH.
    If I where to be in a state besides California, where truckers go faster, I would try to go a bit faster, so if they pass, it isn't too fast. So I would probably go 65-70 MPH, if they are going about that speed.

      being trapped with a bunch of other cars/trucks so close like that makes me nervous

    03:00 this situation happens way more than others think
    every situation is different I understand and respect that
    but a CB to let the other driver know that blew your driver side door off that you needed to get over now
    would have helped

      This right here!!! I barely get 6 hours of sleep and I'm tossing and turning those last 4.. So I get to the truck stop, shower, eat, then goof off until those 4 hours are up.. Then I'll go to sleep..

    In your CDL training, did you have to learn to drive a manual transmission. Like a 9 speed or a 13 speed manual? Just curious. Love your videos, bro! Keep up the good work and thank you for delivering all of our s**t! 😃

    I agree with your buddy, California does suck. It's not a semi truck friendly state,the 55 mph speed limit is out right ridiculous, those truckers didn't forget what the speed limit is, they just don't want to drive 55,I'm the same way, I'll drive 60,no faster than 65.

      Contact a company that pays for your CDL and training

    • @6.7L
      @6.7L ปีที่แล้ว

      Do it!! Some companies will pay for your CDL like Swift and Forth Worth CDL School. You're gonna have to be in a contract with them for at least 1 Year because of the free schooling, if you leave before the 1 year you may have to pay, but it's worth it if you can't afford it

      its like camping but literally 24/7. its lifestyle. first you gotta figure out if you can live in a small space like a semi truck 24/7. workweek is 60-70hrs too. good money. 45k-100k based on experience. figure out if you can live the lifestyle first. then if want to try it out then look to work for Nussbaum, prime or cfi. Nussbaum and prime have been awarded one of the best fleets to drive for so I figure they're doing something right

      You know how much the battery has to weigh to pull 75k pounds for 500 miles?
      Say goodbye to full loads, cause 60% of your cargo load will be a battery.
      And gut luck getting it charged every night. You run out of parking space with a diesel, it's a hassle. Run out space at charging station, you are parked for the entire next day.

    • @Willou445
      @Willou445 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im not a truck driver (yet) but I’ve noticed that most truckers put their flasher on and usually people let them come in. If they don’t they start merging slowly (to make people know they want to merge) and most of the times someone will let them in

    Ive got to ask.....why is your driver mirror pointing to the sky? why not use it to watch the road and the bottom part of your trailer and the road lol

    • @joshalex93

      Everybody doesn't sit the same in the seat. Everybody isn't going to set their mirrors the same either.. He's sitting dang near all the way in the sky so the mirror compliments that.
